My mom has Lupus and at one point, we didn't know if she would make it. She's now doing very well and has ran a half and full marathon. I'm so proud of her💕
Here are another 2 celebrities with a rare condition: Benny and Ravi Fine are a pair of brothers who have a mental disorder called Greediness. It is characterized by an urgent need to earn more money and finding all sorts of excuses to sue everyone e.g. we trademarked the word 'react' so anyone who produces a react video will have to pay us $1 000 000 000 000.
+Gio P yeah...they changed their minds because of the shit storm coming down on them. They attempted to do it....and that makes them greedy douche bags. Fuck those assholes.
+Paige Knight (Avmy Bandid) going by that policy, I could say the same to you. I have a rather extensive list of life threatening medical issues, and scoliosis is the least of that.
When Selena Gomez fans says she can't hit high notes because of Lupus. I think they forgot that Toni Braxton has it to while they were making an excuse.
I am a Selenator and I never blamed it on Lupus. She was diagnosed three years ago and even before that she couldn't hit the notes. It's nice to have a unique voice who sings in a low, sultry way.
+Ismael MC. So true. Just because she can't hit high notes doesn't mean she can't sing. She can hit kinda high notes but she still has a very nice voice. I'm a selenator too!
I'm saying Toni lupus is worst than Selena but she is able to hit high notes. I only said it because some fans use it as an excuse. All singers aren't able to hit high notes like Britney Spears but she can still sing.
Okay, I just wanted you to understand that it's not all the same. And you can't really compare whether one's lupus is worse or not because it always changes.. Just spreading some awareness!☺
So, so, SO many errors.... First off, a disease isn't considered rare until it effects fewer than 200,000 Americans and less than 1 in 2,000 Europeans. Which means over half of the things she discussed aren't rare at all, and some are extremely common. Second, Psoriasis is NOTHING like eczema. Psoriasis is autoimmune driven and can also cause destructive and painful arthritis, in addition to large patches of raw, torn up skin. This is because the body decides to produce excessive amounts of skin cells and the overly thick skin can cause painful skin lesions that leave patients vulnerable to infection. Eczema, on the other hand, effects only the skin and is essentially extreme dry skin. It's treated completely differently because it's a completely different disease.
As for Paula Abdul having RSD/CRPS type I, that's under debate. She's said both yes and no at random times. However, Nina, the black girl on Dance Moms, has the disease. She's been in remission for years but they know remission is tenuous. The disease is incurable. RSD hasn't actually been formally known as RSD in over 15 years. It's current name is CRPS type I. They combined RSD with its lesser known, and much rarer, sibling, Causalgia, and outlined new diagnostic criteria for the both types of the disease. As someone with CRPS type II, I can also say that the disease does not simply cause some achiness, as was implied. It is, in fact, the single most painful non-terminal illness known to science. It causes the body to treat portions of itself as if they are dead, withholding nutrients and oxygen, causing thinning of the skin, nails, and hair. It also causes severe swelling, discoloration, temperature changes, osteoporosis, and more, on a localized level. Basically, it's hell.
I have a condition called Friendless Lonerism. It makes me really socially awkward and also causes me to have extreme difficulty starting and maintaining friendships.
Lupus can be so horrible and painful... When I got diagnosed I was really scared and there is no cure for it... It is definitely hard but as long as you don't let the disease define you and you fight, you can make it through. Props to Selena, people really don't know how hard living with lupus is, especially if it is LES, in a job so demanding as hers, good for her for speaking out about it too!
I have Ulcerative Colitis and it's an autoimmune disease. It causes ulcers and inflammation in my colon. It causes abdominal pain, going to the bathroom 8-15 times a day, and blood in stool.
My grandmother knew she had lupus for many years but was told by all of her doctors that she was just imagining things. It wasn't until after she passed away from complications due to ovarian cancer that she was actually diagnosed with it. Not many people are aware of Lupus as a disease, and I'm honestly glad Selena decided to open up about her struggle with it, as more people are starting to become aware of the problems people with the disease face every day.
I do too, it is sooo horrible! But as long as we fight and do our best to stay as healthy as we can, we can find ways to live with it. I don't know you, but you are brave, is not an easy disease to live with at all
I love how they continue doing their thing despite their illnesses.... Huge inspiration to me... Remember you don't have to be scared to live your dreams and don't let anyone and anything stop you from what you're meant to do and be. ❤️❤️❤️
+Gracie Whitely psoriasis, epilepsy, scoliosis, graves disease, diabetes, Parkinson's etc are not rare, ask the pharmaceutical companies. BTW I'm a nurse and I've taken care of many many patients with these diagnosis.
Ver, veryy few listed were actually rare. Very annoying. RSD/CRPS type I is 1 in 5,000, but I'm not sure if any of the others actually hit that threshold.
Gracie Whitely IDK about the other stuff, but epilepsy is far from rare about 250,000 people are diagnosed with it yearly in the US alone which is 1-2 people in every classroom or more accurately 1 in 26 people
+Sports Fan13 A honey doesn't sunbed as a honey hopes to live until a ripe old age :) A honey also doesn't really self tan...because "love the skin you're in" and all that. She is, however, going on holiday this week to the Caribbean Sea...some welcome sun in a sensible sunblock is on the cards. #wild
My mom has Systemic lupus and it's amazing that Selena told people about it it's a very misunderstood disease and with celebrity help it may get the attention it needs
Seriously? Very few of these are rare. "only 8 percent of the population"? That's tens of millions of people, that means 1/12.5 people you meet has it!
I have scoliosis(had a spinal fusion 6 years ago) , my dad has grave's disease(had this thyroid removed) , my cousin has lupus and my grandfather might have Parkinson's. Crazy how they are all considered rare yet my family has been affected by quite of few of these diseases. Thankfully, there's treatment and help for most of these conditions :)
Julianne Hough and Tia Mowry-Hardict both have Endometriosis. I know it's not really a rare condition however, it is a condition that can take years to to be diagnosed, can be misdiagnosed or just be told its normal women pain and that you have to deal with it. Many have it just around the time of the month but some including myself are in constant pain every day and may not be life threatening but is life changing.
My father Dave Appell music was used as the melody for "Jump Around" He was born with Waardenburg symdrome WS is characterized by brilliant blue eyes, premature grey hair and deafness. Dad was obviously not deaf. Waardenburg syndrome is genetic syndrome that effects one out of 50,000 people.
i have epilepsy too....I was diagnosed when I was 6 or 7.....I've been on meds since then but I've been off for 3 months.....so far I had 2 seizures.....may have to get more meds
Chloe Dahler sometimes I watch videos over T1 diabetes since I have it as well, and the comments always have some article "natural way to get rid of T1" it makes me so mad every time!! XD
bornracer 230 type 1 diabetes used to be a little rare (I think XD) but in recent years, it's been making a huge increase. Type 2 is way more common tho :P
my cousin has epilepsy(not sure if I spelled that right) and she is 8, she has had it from the age of 1 or 2 and because of that i just want to say...people with any disease and/or depression or anything they suffer with are just as great and beautiful as people without.I personally do not wish that for anyone to go through... please do what you can for people with insecurities of any sort and remember you are beautiful and amazing!!❤love❤
It wasn't just X-Factor and So you Think You Can Dance that Paula Abdul took part in, she was also judge on American Idol once upon a time, co-judging with Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson. I know there have been more American Idol judges than just those three, but they are the ones I remember the most. Because I stopped watching American Idol after those three left the show.
Bella Thorne is dyslexic. I feel little Wayne's pain because when I was little, my seizures kept me from having a normal life. It wasn't until I was put on the modified Atkins diet that things started to go uphill.
Psoriasis is only considered rare when children 13 and under have it but is common in people ages 14 and above. I was one of the rare cases when i was diagnosed at the age of 8 and i am 22 now.
OMG! This made me feel so much better seeing how I have scoliosis just like Sarah Michele Geller. This made me feel so much better seeing that a celebrity shares my deformity. :)
In 2014 have suffered from depression and anxiety disorder. I still fight everyday cuz my ex boyfriend made me this way and plus having a premature child in the hospital for 3 long months. some of my friends don't understand what I've have been through and my ex destroyed my life.
There's also a type 1 diabetes and my brother has it. It has nothing to do with excercise and how much you eat, it comes to you itself and never leaves
I'm 14 years old and when I was in 5th grade I was told I had scoliosis and have had a brace since 7th grade but in 7th grade I was told I didn't have to wear it anymore but they said that if it got worse I would have to be fitted for a new one and wear it till my scoliosis curvatures got smaller.
excema doesn't just come and go it, stays until a certain time. it's also worst in the dry seasons summer and winter cause the skin becomes more dry and itchier
I am inspired by Demi Lovato because she is an amazing singing star and actrice and that are my ambitions too. I also have Bipolar but my friends, singing and acting helped me to overcome my fear of losing myself in it.
As someone who lives with multiple conditions this is very really inspiring! What about doing a Top Ten actors with disabilities? I can get you started with Worwick Davis, Julie Fernandez ( Star of the Office UK) and East Enders star Lisa Hammond. Just google actors with disabilities and you will get a whole list.
I have a not so rare condition called "Hypochondria" going along with panic disorder. I am scared of illnesses and even a small pain makes me think I have something fatal. I hate it😔
I have SLE Lupus Fibromyalgia and Sjogrens Focal Seizures Tremors Lupus Neuropathy and everything else that comes along with it. Everyday is a struggle but I'm so grateful I wake up with air in my lungs I will endure this as gracefully as I can some have conditions worse than I do. Anyone dealing with anything stay strong 💪 healthy and focused Showin some Jersey Shore Love 🇵🇷
My mom has graves disease... I've been taking care of my younger sister and my mom as my dad works. There is so much an 11 year old can do... any advice for me? ;(
I have had scholiousious twice right now is the second time and my aunt has it my mom says it is not rare and I was said because I thought no celebrities had my condition :-) this makes me happy to not feel alone
Michael Jackson had a skin condition called Vitiligo. This caused him to have patches of skin without pigmentation. He underwent treatment to hide his symptoms and that is why he had his skin lightened, despite people saying it was because he didn't like being black, which is SO untrue. Vitiligo is rare and can be genetic. Rip Michael Jackson.
I know most people have the aftaweekend syndrome. It affects about 98 percents of the world urban population. Most patients see their symptoms disappear 5 days after Sunday.
I recently found out that I have a disease where scratches randomly form on my body and they have a cream to help it but I'm immune to the cream does anyone know what the disease is called
I strongly feel like Mick Mars should've made this list (at least the top 3) for his Ankylosing Spondylitis condition. I find it's a whole lot less common than most -if not all- of the conditions listed on the video
i have risk of retinal detachment and my eyes grew too much causing stabbing pain when i was a kid until i was 18 i have sticklers scitzophrenia iv developed allergys after a blockage in my esophagus and more
