I got Robinson Crusoe based on your playhthrough and your high praise on this list and others and boy, was it worth the effort to learn the rules. Actually, once I played it a few times, the rules and process just makes sense. Such a great game. Thanks!

I am so happy to hear this, Sarah! Thank you for taking the time to let me know. I started the channel hoping that my videos could help bring great games to people's tables. I'm so excited that you found and enjoy Robinson Crusoe. It has brought me a ton of joy over the years. I've probably played around 40 times, won and lost every scenero, and it never gets old. It took me 3 plays before the rules really clicked, but now it feels very streamlined and cleverly designed. Happy gaming!

For me it definitely depends on the group I am playing with. For a more light, family game I have really enjoyed Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle. With my gaming group, we have really enjoyed the Pandemic Legacy series.
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Год назад
I do really like Harry Potter, but I've actually played the Toy Story version more with the kids. It would make my family co-op list, which I will do at some point. And Pandemic Legacy is amazing. I find it so hard to get legacy games played. I should really just solo them, but I like a group for legacy. Thanks dlopez!

Interesting list. I love Forgotten Waters, too. My top fav coop games are the West Kingdom series with the Tomesaga expansion which allows you to play all three game coop, Robin Hood and the Merry-men (I play using the solo villain cards for more of a challenge), Atlantis Rising is a blast, Professor Evil is accessible and fun (love the steam punk theme), Roll Camera is so fun and you race against time and money to complete a brand new movie each time (can't wait for expansion coming soon). I own many more with coop modes like Andor, Adventures of Robin Hood, Terraforming Mars Ares, Chronicles of Crime, etc. I'd like to put Merchant's Cove as a 'semi-coop' if you want to play it like we do (we discuss where would be best for the drawn meeples to go instead of just undercutting each other all the time, so when possible, we try to please both players so we don't do huge 'take that' turns and really enjoy it).
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Год назад
Great list C G. Atlantis Rising and Chronicles of Crime would be high up for me. I haven't tried the West Kingdom co-op. That sounds interesting. I also haven't tried the co-op modes of Orleans and CO2, which I hear good things about. Thanks so much for checking out the video!

A great video and a great list! I felt similarly to you about the base game of Spirit Island, it was... fine. It really needs using one (or even better, both) of the expansions. The event cards and additional tokens they provide really bring the game to life. Did you consider Burgle Bros for this list? My all-time favourite game period, not just favourite coop. It is an under-appreciated masterpiece.
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Год назад
Thanks Jay! I do really like Burgle Bros, but I've played it almost exclusively solo and mostly on the computer. I love the theme and the gameplay really works, but it isn't one that grabs me enough to put some of these lists. A keeper for sure and one I come back to quite often. Probably a good one for a playthrough. That would be fun. Thanks again Jay!

Top 10: Flash Point Fire Rescue, Dead Men Tell No Tales, Toy Story: Obstacles & Adventures, Moving Pictures, Fuse, Back to the Future: Back in Time, Dead of Winter, The Crew series, Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid, & Robinson Crusoe (only 3 plays so far but can see this going to the top). Just missing the list Just One, Sub Terra, & Rush M.D.

I had not heard of Halls of Hegra but I just gave it a quick look. 😲 Wow, this looks very interesting. Thank you for putting it on my radar. While the theme doesn't appeal to me nearly as much as Robinson Crusoe, the mechanisms look solid. No replacement for RC, but very neat. Thanks Chip!

How would you progress to Gloomhaven Jaws of a Lion from a casual player? I want to play a game ideal for 2 people that evolves with a story and your characters (like D&D), but my partner needs to be eased into it. I just got TIME Stories, so that might be a good start. What are good gateway games to whatever genre Gloomhaven is?
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled 7 месяцев назад
I'd say so long as you know and understand the rules then it is very easy to help other players along. And Jaws does a nice job of slowly introducing the rules over the first few missions. So you can play open handed at first and discuss strategy (technically against the rules but not a big deal) and explain how the cards work, etc. So I'd say learn the rules and jump right in! Thanks for watching!

Robinson Crusoe, Spirit Island and Arkham Horror the card game are great coop games. I love this three really, but I missed Eldritch Horror, Paleo, Tainted Grail, Elder Sign and my all time favorit board game Kingdom Death : Monster. Kingdom Death : Monster is my choice for the best coop and solo game of all times.

Great picks, Daniel. I've been wanting to try KD:M. It looks fun, even though it is not in my wheelhouse. I sort of bounced off Tainted Grail a bit. Need to try it again, or maybe the new one. And Paleo is high on my to-table list. It looks great. Love the theme. Thanks for watching!
@DapperDano
@DapperDano Год назад
Any list with Robinson Crusoe at the top is good in my book. I do find it interesting that you only like Lost Expedition solo, when it has some coop mechanics that prevent it from being “multiplayer solitaire”, such as limiting communication. Have you tried Paleo? It’s kind of like a combination of the two, and definitely in line with the emergent narrative of survival that makes Robinson Crusoe my favorite game.
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Год назад
Hey, great to hear from another RC fan! Thanks DapperDano. You are right about Lost Expedition. I think I played it first as a solo and that has colored my experience unfairly. And Paleo is high on my list to try. Your endorsement will definitely move it up the list. It seems like my kind of game. Thanks so much for checking out my channel!

Great Video! I have a copy of Last Bastion which is like the one you mentioned. Same great art, same extreme difficulty (though maybe not as difficult). My top 5 cooperative games: 1. Yedo (master set) 2. Arkham Horror 2ed. (Same reasons you like the LCG). 3. Marvel United (all of it) 4. Massive Darkness 2 5. World of Warcraft Wrath of the Lich King. (My pandemic). Could be swapped for Return to Dark Tower. Hey you cheated so I can too! Both pandemic like.

@@TotallyTabled the master set has a co-op mode not the original version of Yedo. It's a pretty unique take on the mission element of the game. In fact it also has a true solo mode that is very similar to the co-op version. I think Yedo is a great game and the new modes of play in the master set just give it that much more time at the table.

I just bought Spirit Island(still wrapped) and hope to like it for solo as much as a lot of players. I did play it at 3 but it was a boring experience. I played Pandemic World of Warcraft at 2 player and it was fantastic! I also played Marvel champions at 3 player and it was good but too long for me. This is a game I only play solo but would definitely play it at 2 only. Marvel United coop is very good as well. The Rising franchise by USAOPOLY are pretty good for coop. Last but not least, the Forbidden franchise by GameWright. Forbidden Island was my very first game into the hobby and such a wonderful coop game.
@jackskellingtonsora
@jackskellingtonsora Год назад
I exclusively play Spirit Island as solo. I don't generally care for co-op games WITH actual people, but especially not with Spirit Island. That is analysis paralysis city, which is fine if it's just you sitting at a table thinking about your actions on your own, not so much when you've got another person or a third person all trying to think about their actions. There's also just way too much going on with more than two spirits too.
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Год назад
Thanks for watching Solitaire Gambit. Marvel United nearly made the list. I have enjoyed it co-op and plan to play more soon. Forbidden Island is my favorite of the family co-ops, which is a separate list I hope to make at some point down the road. Such a great game for new players, kids, pretty much anyone. Thanks again!
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Год назад
My struggle with Spirit Island solo has been I don't like it with one spirit, but with two spirits I'm a bit overwhelmed. I need more plays solo, but two player feels good because I feel like I get the best of both worlds. I have played it with people who are good about not suffering AP, at least no worse than mine, so it works out. I don't think I would ever play with more than two players, just as you said. Thanks Jack!

@jackskellingtonsora
@jackskellingtonsora Год назад
@@TotallyTabled Oh yeah, I would never play with more than two players for sure. If you're just learning a Spirit, I whole heartily recommend playing just one board with one Spirit and no scenario or enemy. It's the pure Spirit Island experience where you can just focus on what makes that Spirit unique and interesting. To me, that does get boring, of course, because I've played hundreds of hours of the game, but it's the best way to really get into the meat of what makes that Spirit tic. Once you've done that, then play two handed with two Spirits you know really well. Then you can get more out of seeing how they interact with each other.

"Goofy, adventurous ride..." that's 'Eldritch Horror' for me. 😈 Compared to Zombies as a theme?! Blergh. No contest--Cthulhu all the way. We love co-ops, too, and right now the winner at our table is Return to Dark Tower. I'd love to concur with you on 'Robinson Crusoe', but as much as I respect Ignacy and his game's bad-card-comes-back-to-haunt-you-later mechanism, it just fell flat for me. Ditto 'First Martians'. I was *so* stoked for that game, and I bounced off it immediately. Portal Games and I just don't seem to mix.

Have you tried the Loop, Brian? Check out my playthrough because The Loop is one of my favorite new co-ops and it plays great solo. Very puzzly with a ton of replayability. Robinson Crusoe is definitely one of those games that every time I play it, I bounce right back off of it super quickly. It's really difficult to learn, the rules are pretty badly written, and the game is punishing as hell. It's just not fun to play whereas with other games on this list like Spirit Island and Gloomhaven, you actually have a genuinely interesting puzzle that can be punishing, but isn't nearly as difficult to learn or get into and definitely is nowhere near as punishing.
@nihlify
@nihlify Год назад
Robinson completely depends on what scenario you play. The first one (that they recommend you start with) is much harder than several of the later imo. While the rule book is kinda bad, the gameplay isn't that difficult once you understand it either. Love the punishing nature of it.
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Год назад
Robinson is definitely difficult to learn, but much easier these days with all the videos about it. The game itself is actually not that complex to play -- not nearly as much as Spirit Island. It also isn't as punishing as its reputation, in my opinion. The theme makes it feel more punishing but once you know the game I feel it should settle into that 50% win percentage, give or take depending on scenario, and usually comes down to the wire. I think Robinson hides its puzzle better than almost any other game, but it is still there, buried beneath a compelling survival story. I think Spirit Island gets a pass on "punishing" because it has 100 different difficulty levels and most people start playing at its simplest and easiest form and slowly graduate to higher levels if they play it enough. Very smart design, but I've never seen these higher levels because I haven't played enough yet. But I'm more excited about trying a new Robinson scenario than trying the next level of difficulty on Spirit Island. Robinson also has easier difficultly levels and different modules to make things more winnable, but nobody uses them. Nor should they. Robinson doesn't work when it is easy, kinda like Galaxy Trucker. The pain is the point and I totally understand why people would bounce off of it. No great game is for everyone. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and watching my video Jack! I really appreciate that! Have a wonderful day!
@TotallyTabled
@TotallyTabled Год назад
@@nihlify I agree Erik about the first scenario. I don't like that one and it is unfortunate that they recommend it. A better tutorial mission would have really helped ease people into the game and maybe help them understand the strategies necessary to win at the harder scenarios. The myth that the game is unwinnable unless you get lucky really kept Robinson down (although it was still extremely popular, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about 😀). Thanks!
@jackskellingtonsora

@@TotallyTabled The main problem is how badly the rules are written I think. I read the whole rule book probably two or three times and still couldn't tell you how to play it. It's more helpful to watch a playthrough from someone who's already played I think because wow that rulebook is awful.

Every is vaguely described and most of it is based on me having previous knowledge of the game or its predecessors, which I don't (otherwise I wouldn't be here looking games). It's like you're telling me they're good, but not giving me any details on how the game works. Just saying "it's pretty fun and got a mechanic where you throw cubes.". That doesn't tell me anything. Maybe in your future videos you could try and describe the game's details and gameplay a little better?
