Top 10 Countries by Most Expensive Military (1960-2017)

This video shows the countries with the highest military spending as a percentage of the countries GDP. Of course larger countries like the United States spend more money on their military, but when also accounting for the GDP of the country, it gets a lot more interesting. Often the peaks coincides with wars that the country is participating in.

Idk I guess they are wary of their neighbours' large militaries and increased theirs accordingly. Maybe it shows up as a higher percentage because the country might be poorer and would have to spend a higher percentage of their GDP in order to achieve the same effect and have their military be a stronger one with the extra spending. Again idk so I'm probably incorrect but that's just my guess.

@@cutiecutie1151 But there's a problem about that. The military spending IS a part of the GDP (the value of all products and services produced in a country during a year, which of course includes military production). That means that if you increase your military budget by, say, 10 millions (even if it's borrowed money) your GDP will increase by 10 millions as well, so the proportion of the military budget will be greater but it couldn't ever surpass the 100%.

Usa spends 600 billon on military, Oman spends 6 billon, because Usa's total GDP is much higher than Oman's total GDP. So... USA won.

Most likely no data, because I can't find a reliable source for that. Though it's believed that North Korea spent in more than 5% of its GDP on its military, which make sense considering that almost 1/3 of North Korea's population are in the military (including reserve).

@davout5775 5 лет назад
You will wait xD. USA with its huge GDP must spend a lot more. Basically to get to Oman they have to spend 25% of GDP which is roughly 5,3 Trillion dollars even more out of their 21,5T dollars GDP. Also it is more then the federal budget which the USA spend a year

@@polarpl247 What are yo talking about??? It is ridiculously HUGE!!! And here we are not even talking about the full frame. The defense budget is as high as 900B dollars and that is not even close to the full thing. They also pay to the veterans and those who are handicapped b/c of their military service. We are talking about over 1 trillion dollars. And if Trump is not joking and there will be indeed a sixth military branch just the military expenses will go above 1 trillion dollars
