Zoom in or circle the reference when the video is replayed. Half of the countdown, it's hard to know what is being talked about. "hanging munchkin"? Nope don't see anything.

They won't because there's literally nothing to encircle. That "munchkin" they're talking about was a bird. People who say "they replaced it with a bird on the remaster" are just trying to convince themselves. It was a bird before and still a bird on the remaster.

Shortly after I first saw Insidious, a friend mentioned it ... the fact that we are shown the boy before his little dance to the Tiny Tim song, and after a re-watch of the movie I couldn't believe I missed that. The phantom boy is in plain sight with his back to us ... almost as if he is playing Hide and Seek. Very creepy. The hair on my neck stood at attention, lol. The boy was played by Ben Woolf, who many horror aficionados will know from the TV show AHS, seasons 1 and 4 (Thaddeus Montgomery aka Infantata, and Meep).

For those of you who are like me and couldn't see the satellite one, look SUPER closely at 10:03. Its landing spot in the water is almost directly above the 'W' in the WatchMojo logo. Turning the playback speed all the way down also helps a ton, and was the only reason I found it.

Must be on 1080p minimum, it only lasts for about 3 frames and it crashes on the horizon, those using phones should forget about it. But yeah, thanks for the advice speedy

Watching it in phone at 1080i in full screen at 0.25x speed and look above the w. You will find it. it's not just a splash of water, there is a literal satellite falling in straight line over the logo.

That demon face appears in several other scenes in The Exorcist. Once when Regan's mother enters a dark kitchen after arriving home, (to the right of her) once after she enters Regans dark bedroom, (to the left of her) and once it is superimposed over Regan's face during the exorcism. The image of Pazuzu also makes several appearances

You must be referring to "The Version You've Never Seen" in which director Friedkin added more little fleeting glimpses of stuff to the film--- unnecessarily. Like when Chris MacNeil walks through the kitchen and as she passes the stove's hood that evil face appears briefly; but it's about as subtle as a garlic sandwich. The director's cut that you cite above was done as a cash grab by Warner Bros for an anniversary edition. The original theatrical version is best.

The scariest thing in movies to me is the subtle scary stuff in the background you notice but doesnt have a loud music sting or anything. Silence is the scariest.

That’s not the “hanging munchkin” clip. That’s after MGM editted the hanging man out and the bird in. This clip obviously shows a bird. The original was unmistakably not a frickin bird, but it was only on old TV and VHS.

Nah, it's the other way around. There's a clip that shows a hanging corpse that's on youtube but it's an edit that someone made in recent years, claiming it's the original version that got changed in the remaster, to spread the myth. You can see it easily debunked since there are several people who own a VHS copy of the original, pre-remaster, who posted the scene here on youtube, and it's identical to the remastered version, it's still a bird. The "original video" is just some trolling made by some creepypasta idiot or something like that.

The Horror Movie "It Follows" has a lot of these subtle background scenes. One of the most disturbing is the girl slowly walking wearing the white jacket in the school while Jay and her friends are inside the car.

They're being followed at the end; if I recall right. Thanks for reminding me of it. The premise is unique to begin with. Then, you have that awesome original score with the warm, chimey Synthesizers. The whole score is literally timeless, for me. I can't put a label on it. It is in a league all it's own. The cast is fantastic from top to bottom. There's not a single scene in the film that doesn't feel genuine. I love those little things that are thrown into the film that distort any sense of time the viewer might begin to feel. [ like is it in the 80s or 90s ] I.e. the little [ I guess it's called ] palm pilot mirror thing that is actually some sort of a digital novel. Also, right before Jay gets dumped out of the car; Paul and Jay's sister are playing that strange card game. Love those little additions that really makes this strange world feel so realistic. I'm so glad you all reminded me of this!! Thanks!

I was born in 74 so I grew up with the fantastic horror flicks of the 70s and 80s. Poltergeist is one of my favorites (The Shining is my very fav) and over the years, I’ve sort of collected a little pile of factoids about the film. This one is weird: Throughout the movie, if you look on the wall in the kid’s bedroom, you’ll notice a Super Bowl poster above Robbie’s bed. No one seems to know why (or how!) but the poster is for Super Bowl XXII which would fall in January 1988. That’s not only six years into the future, since Poltergeist came out in 1982, but it also ended up being the day that Heather O’Rourke (adorable little Carol Anne in the movie) would end up dying very suddenly after going into septic shock. She fell ill on January 31st 1988. The same day as the Super Bowl featured in the poster. Why was a poster for an event SIX YEARS into the FUTURE on the wall in this film?? Many more oddities surround that film. Other deaths, and strange happenings. People decided that the movie was cursed.

7:48 The "doll head in women's clothes" in Blue Velvet was an inside joke on Dennis Hopper by David Lynch b/c Hopper had just filmed River's Edge before where his love interest was an "inflatable doll" & Lynch knew about it so he had some fun. Both films made their debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in 1986. People noticed this then.

When my friend and I watched Hereditary we accidentally paused it right at the shot in 9:20, where Annie is seen on the ceiling. We didn’t notice and went to get snacks and when we came back and went to unpause it we saw her and I swear I nearly choked on my drink. Both of us were legitimately scared to unpause.

It's on the right side. You should see a tiny black dot falling before you see it splash down in the ocean. I think the theory where a satellite falling down woke up that monster in the ocean is scary enough. But in my opinion, the theory where the monster itself was falling into the ocean is scarier. What if other monsters have fallen into the ocean? It brings questions like that to mind.

That librarian smiling in the background always gives me that unsettled feeling but then I imagine that the actress actually did that on her own because the director didn't make her character very memorable in IT. Which version? I saw the original one as a kid, but tapped out about an hour in. I hated clowns since probably birth, and the OG Pennywise gave me clown vibes and Tim Curry’s portrayal just made it even scarier. The new one doesn’t scare me, the visual, that is. That doesn’t mean I plan to watch it.

It’s invisible on anything under 1080p so crank your resolution up as much as possible then the time stamp is 10:02 to 10:03 like others said. It falls from basically directly above the cruise ship to about halfway between the cruise ship and center screen. It looks like a black streak. Again, it has to be 1080p or more. I watched over and over the same spot on 720p and couldn’t see it, but as soon as I switched it to 1080p I saw it on the first try.

The hanging munchkin clip here is the remastered version. If you saw the original version, you can clearly see that there is no bird spreading its wings. The "hanging body" is swaying and located dead center on the blue background between the trees.

Background stuff is always the most effective. Jump scares are just cheap scare tactics, in my opinion. There are some notable examples of subtle background ones in The Haunting of Hill House also.

Honestly, the way Annie sort of "swam" through the air out of Peter's room in Hereditary made me straight up laugh. It looked so ridiculous. Then again, the only time I was scared during that movie was in the beginning, when Annie sees that ghostly vision of her mother in the darkened corner after she turns off the lights, which was subtley creepy and unexpected. The rest of the movie felt more like a run-of-the-mill family drama with a few added horror elements - right before it went full-on gore, at which point my interest was completely lost.

I know this not a horror movie. But 3 men and a baby, when Jake is left in the apartment with the baby, and his mother comes to see her, if you look behind him it looks their is a child ghost standing behind him in his room.When it is really a cut out of him, the story behind that is a child killed himself in the building. It still gives me chills!

My favorite subtle scare sent shivers down my spine like no movie ever did. I remember a scene in Hereditary set in the evening, looking at the room from the boy from the outside. The shot goes on long enough to realize this perspective is from the little hut in the trees (where the final sequence later mainly happens). If you look close you can see the breath of someome like when you breath in cold mornings, meaning that someone is watching him.

Regarding the hanging munchkin in The Wizard of Oz, it's true. Watching any home video version prior to 1985. It clearly shows a human figure hanging. After 1985, they removed the body and added the giant bird. In fact, there are RU-vid videos clearly showing the body.

One thing I want to say, That these creepy things in the background are wayy, wayy more scarier if the scene is normal or the characters are normally doing something. When These things Appear while something bad or terrifying is going on, they aren’t that scary, but when the scene is normal, For example, if the character is eating something on the table and some ghost-looking creature appears standing behind them, it’s 100x more terrifying

the wizard of oz actually did have a hanging munchkin and the bird was a cover up story because they replace the original scene to make out the bird and the muchkin supposedly hung himself because while on set the were bullied and abused by the major cast and crew and were severely underpaid. the scene you guys used with the bird was editted in when they re released the movie a few years after it was originally released

The woman in the background of IT is not the librarian, but another patron. The librarian is at her desk. The actor and costuming are different. I wouldn't be surprised if they dress up Bill Skarsgård for the scene. The balloon then appears where the woman was standing.

Actually the true fact about the hanging man in the wizard of Oz, in the vhs version you can see the hanging body, but it wasn't until they started making dvds is when they edited the movie with a bird covering the body so no one would see it
