4:18 Oh gosh, I love those needles! They're mostly aimed at grabbing and pulling in really short tails on projects, where a normal needle may not do the job. So great for amigurumi!

Cool! ❤️ I never knew I already do all of these! But they are great! I also store my finished piece in large zip lock bags, with a cut up (outdoors scent) dryer sheet! When ever someone receives the piece, they always comment on how wonderful it smells! I also purchase extra knitting need protective caps, I put them on my key ring set of crochet hooks. Yes, my key ring has 3 crochet hooks, Incase I need one in an emergency! I tag every piece when finished with the measurements and care instructions, as well as it’s yarn type.

Putting projects into bags and labeling them is such a fantastic idea! I do it for small things like flowers and bows but never thought to do it with my bigger projects 🤦‍♀️ good thing I have you 💙 Also I'll save my ends that are too small for small projects in a bag to use for stuffing in future projects. 🙂

I have a good "trick" for when say your to chain 50 & the do dbls across your foundation chain but you get to the end & realize you only have 48 & ur short 2. Well instead of taking it apart.. Always start out with a tail that's at least 3-4in, that 1st row after the foundation row, you always end at that tail. So if you are short 2-3 on ur foundation chain, just that tail to add x amount of chains to add to ir foundation, then continue your row of dbls, you won't even notice a difference..

Love these ideas. #9 is probably my favorite. But I have a question about #6 the rain repellent. How well would it work on kids mittens. I'd love to make some but don't because mittens get so wet very fast when their out outside playing in the snow. I love your polymer clay handles. They're really pretty. I haven't gotten into clay yet, I like to make jewelry as well as crochet. So I used my daughters rainbow loom elastics to make my own comfy handles. One of my biggest problems is keeping my tension. If I set a project down for a day or more and come back my tension is way off. Any suggestions or just keep practicing?
@naztazia
@naztazia 7 лет назад
Hi! I've never tried it on kids mittens mostly because I get a little bit nervous with chemicals on my kids stuff. But they do have a ScotchGard brand spray that many of the store-bought mittens already have on them, so that would probably be a better choice. That's normal for your tension to change after resting for a day or two. My tension, if I'm not careful about it, definitely changes depending upon my stress level. It's mostly just a practicing thing and an adjusting-as-you-go thing.
@mylathompson1076
@mylathompson1076 6 лет назад
As far as changing tension. Have some scrap yarn of the same size/type as your working project yarn. Use the same hook and begin by crocheting a few minutes with the scrap yarn to loosen up and relax your hands & fingers. This also helps calm you before continuing with your project. Works for me.

I really appreciate the tip for putting the first chain on the hook to keep from twisting your chain. Notice how many found that simple trick so helpful? My tip contribution: What if you get to the end and find you are short a couple of stitches? Make a foundation stitch one size up from the row you are making, so if you are making single st's, go up to half double. For half double go up to double etc.You need to allow for the chain st row too. If you were not using the back hump of the chain, undo the last stitch and re-do using the back hump. Then YO and go into the two threads left over on the chain and start your foundation stitch.

I've been crocheting for about 55 years. Forty years ago paper clips weren't readily available in my small town so I started using bobby pins for place markers. Haven't found anything better in all that time.

I used the "Pill Bottle" tip for storing my yarn needles...and it was fantastic! It saved me from accidental injuries as well as keeping them in one place. Oh, and I also love the SUSAN BATES Finishing Needles; they are very easy to use and saves me the hassle of trying to thread my yarn through the needle's eye! 💗

A few of my pill bottles (and a friend gave me two of hers) are tall enough to hold crochet hooks and the lid has a push-down release. And then I started to crochet the crochet hook holder and love it, too.

You don't need to use anything to keep your work from being unraveled by small *helpers.* Just pull the loop out a bit and tie the loop (both strands/sides of the loop held together) to the working yarn. Just a single knot, which can be easily undone when you're ready to continue working.

I've always just pulled the loop out a bit then tied a loose knot in the loop. It's easy to untie and tighten the loop back up when ready to work again.

I love #10 . This will save me a lot of stress when I start a project that calls 251 chain stitches. Also #9 will be a life saver. My chain is always twisting. Now I know how to prevent this. Thank you so much for sharing your bits of wisdom Donna.

I baked the polymer clay on a few of my crochet hooks. It was easy to do, and they are my favorite. I did it a few years ago, and they have held up well. I plan to do a few more. Love your channel!

Thank you for your tips. When I crochet, I hate when a pattern asks to crochet in a slip stitch. I usually get a smaller crochet hook to get the yarn through both loops and finish with the crochet hook I was originally using. I make amigurumi dolls and what I like to do is attach all the body parts to hide all the knots inside the body before I add the head and double or triple sew said body parts and head if they are meant for children. I've only crochet for 4 years and am glad that I learned a couple of tips from your video.

I love the tip for connecting long chain without twisting the yarn. I come back to this tip every time I do this. Just to make sure I do it right.
