Ultra street fighter 4 Marvel vs capcom 2 Capcom vs snk 2 Street fighter 3 3rd strike King of fighter 98 Last blade 2 Street fighter alpha 3 Garou mark of the wolves Mortal kombat 9 (that's right, the reboot) Rival schools Street fighter ex plus alpha (underrated game). Honorable mentions to soul calibur 3, umk3, tekken 7 and dbz f.
Yes! You mentioned Rival Schools! That’s my all-time favorite, I really hope they make another. The JP version even had a visual novel-esque story mode which would be great these days
I love Rival Schools. Capcom had so many good fighters, but still managed to do something different with all of them. The little mini games they included were awesome too.
Capcom vs SNK 2: Millionaire Fighting (or Mark of the Millennium) never gets the credit it deserves. SamSho2 or SF2 are probably my overall favorites though.
Good top 10 idea! I love fighting games. My Top Ten Fighting Games: 1. Street Fighter III: Third Strike 2. Marvel VS Capcom 2 3. Capcom VS SNK 2 4. Tekken 7 5. Street Fighter Alpha 3 6. Johnny, you're passion and enthusiasm for retro video games is the reason I watch your shows. Love every one of your videos. Keep up the amazing work and continue your infectious positivity!
10.Smash Ultimate 9.Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves 8.Soul Calibur 7.Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike 6.THE KING OF FIGHTERS XIII 5.Tekken 3 4.Virtua Fighter 5 Final showdown 3.Marvel vs capcom series 2.Street fighter 2 1.X-men vs street fighter
You mentioned all the good things about these and allow me to add to it by saying all your games are also very mechanically solid. Awesome list. My favourite fighting game is Street Fighter III 3rd Strike.
Small world, i fell in love with 3rd strike, since i found out my local Fuddruckers has it last year. I use to believe street fighters: arcade edition or turbo was the best. All that blew out of the water.
1. Tekken Tag Tournament 1 2. Tekken 3 3. X-men vs Street Fighter 4. Street Fighter EX 1 5. Rival School 6. Marvel vs Capcom 1 7. Capcom vs SNK 1 8. King of Fighters 2000 9. Street Fighter Alpha 3 10. Star Gladiator ( my First PlayStation Game ever )
The sin of old fighting games was having too few characters. That being said, the most significant fighting game I had in my life was X-men VS Street Fighter. What a charming game!! It was so fresh and cool!
@@BloodlessWolf obviously is not very beloved as noone has that game in noone of their Top 10 fav fighting games, Sorry But TNMT Tournament fighters is just not a beloved game due its shitty mechanics.
Street Fight 2 Hyper Fighting. I have so many great memories of beating my friend Scott up on the SNES over the summer when I was a kid =). It was really unfair because I owned the game and got to practice a lot more, but he took it like a champ.
💖💖💖 VIRTUA FIGHTER 5 fs is the deepest the most technical the best fighting game in which you can be the most creative EVER! Love the underrated KOF series way superior to Street fighter Series even if i like SF.
I don't know if your joking, but i am not. Pit fighter is one of my favorite fighting games. I never get tired of it. I know its supposed to be awful...but i love it.
@@psychopoison saw it in the arcade. Still have an old magazine with an article about it from 1990. Its creepy too with the digitized characters. Love the graphics.
High School Favorites: Tekken 3 DOA Street Fighter 2 Turbo TMNT Tournament Fighter KI Gold College: MvC2 CvS2 Soul Calibur DOA2 Project Justice Bloody Roar PF Today: KI BBCTB Soul Calibur 6 DBFZ Smash Ultimate Also love the KoF series but I've been playing catchup.
It's a shame nobody mentions Real Bout Fatal Fury Special 1996 for Neo Geo. It is seriously one of the most fun fighters ever made. Great fighting combo engine, backgrounds, and animation, an amazing soundtrack... especially on the Neo Geo CD version.
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike will always be my personal favourite fighting game. I got into fighting games in the late 90's/early 00's and when I played 3rd Strike I instantly fell in love with everything about it - from the unique, eccentric cast of characters, to the parry system, to the jazzy soundtrack. Here we are in 2019 and I still play it often! Another favourite of mine is Darkstalkers 3 - that game is so underrated but so damn fun!
When I was a kid - i rented Clayfighter 2 for SNES constantly lmao. kinda under rated. For dreamcast - Virtua Fighter 4 - good memories with my dad fighting him - so much fun! Smash bros 64 - good times with 4 player sleep overs back when I was a kid.
My top 10. 1. Street Fighter II - Turbo 2. Tekken 4 3. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 4. Street Fighter Alpha 2 5. Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) 6. Super Smash Bros. Melee 7. King of Fighters 94 8. Tekken 3 9. SoulCalibur IV 10. Rakuga Kids (highly underrated fighting game never released in NA)
My two favorite fighting game series are any of the marvel/X-men capcom fighters and the darkstalkers series. I love how fluid the animation for those games are especially on Saturn with the 4meg cart
My personal favorites, coming from a casual player: 10. BlazBlue: Central Fiction 9. Soul Calibur VI 8. Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution 7. King of Fighter '98 Ultimate Match 6. (tie) Tekken Tag Tournament and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 5. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 4. Dragon Ball FighterZ (hate the rock music though) 3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 2. Capcom vs. SNK 2 1. (tie) Super Street Fighter II X and Ultra Street Fighter IV
Yep great list johnny... I agree with 95% of your list Id replace dragonball with Killer Instinct on Xbox One.As i never play dragonball and watched the anime that much. MKII with MK9. I love MKII very much. But wasnt very good at it,MK9 was the 1st time i learnt every character in and out. And went to tournaments and played the best i could online and in person.1000s of hrs played online and off. SF2 is the best by far no doubt. I lived in the arcade growing up and got really good at SF2. I also got to go to Japan 5 years ago, and got to play a japanese player at SF2 hyper fighting. It was a dream come true :) And one of my best memories of Japan! I played out of my mind and so did my Japanese opponent.
I got all ready for this vid like you describe playing a game for the first time, got my coffee ready, smoked a bowl, have a snack all set, such a fun channel!
In no order - Garou Mark of the Wolves - Street Fighter Alpha 3 - Soul Calibur 2 - Tekken tag 2 - Injustice - Mortal Komat X - Super smash Bros ultimate
Marvel vs Capcom 2 Street Fighter Alpha 3 BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle Def Jam Fight for NY Smash Bros 4 SkullGirls Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 Aaand that's the one's I remember...
Back before the game offically came out, there was this big tractor trailer truck driving around Canada with arcade machines in the back( It had stopped in my city. St Johns Newfoundland ). Everyone took turns cycling in and out playing the machines. Streetfighter 2 was in there. It was my first experience playing the game. I was 8 lol. Everyone was talking about how amazing it was. Does anyone else remember this??
I mostly agree BUT for me 10- Samurai Shodown 2 on Neo Geo CD(improved, awesome music lot of secrets, and Wang instead of a sword, he use a FREAKING stone pillar! AWESOME) 9- Darkstalkers 3(love the monsters) 8-Capcom Vs SNK 2 7- KOF 94 agree but also 96 with the team (Geese, Wolfgang, Big Boss) 6-Fatl Fury 3 (lot of nostalgia) 5-Mmmh for me Soul Edge on PS1 (love the musics!) 4-Tekken 3(the roster, the secrets!) 3-Marvel vs Capcom 2 2-MK2 1-Ultra SF4 (I know 3 is maybe better but wasn't that popular here at the time)
Great list. Got some new games I have to check out. Great job, glad you too the time to make this list! SF II Championship Edition and MK 4 are my favorites.
i dont have a top 10...but my favorites are... .rival school 2 .mortal kombat 2 .street fighter third strike .tekken 3 .smash bros ultimate .Killer instinct 2. and yep. believe it or not... Playstation allstars battle royale.
Awesome Top Ten Johnny!!!! Thanks for sharing. Makes me remember the good ol' days of the 90s and 2000s when all I ever thought about besides school was...well, fighting games.
I remember around Christmas in the early nineties me and my family went to BestBuy back then they allow you to play demos of certain games and I saw the Super NES and they had the killer instinct demo I played the hell out of it.
@@ladynikkie the fighting system on the SNES is actually an amazing port. The graphics took a hit but as long as the fighting was the same that is what was important and they did an amazing job.
It’s hard to pick a single game out of a fighting game series and call it your favorite. So I’m just going to go by favorite fighting game series. I broke it down to top 5. 1. Guilty Gear 2. Street Fighter 3. Mortal Kombat 4. Capcom VS... 5. Samurai Showdown
The first time I saw Killer Instinct ( Arcade, Coliseum Mall, Hampton Va) and Mortal Kombat 2 ( Arcade, Lynnhaven Mall, Va Beach, Va), I was completely blown away. KI really was a mix of SF and MK with an awesome fighting engine. When I saw MK2, there was this girl kicking everyone's butt with Liu Kang and people had their quarters lined up for miles. There were people with pages torn out of their EGM, Gamepro and Gsmefan magazine's with codes and fatalities on them. Those were some great times. Still remember going to Putt Putt Golf and games ( Warwick Blvd, Newport News, Va) and seeing VF3 for the first time and my jaw dropping to the floor. I also saw KOF having a larger gathering than SF. I remember the first time playing CvS was at Boomer's in San Diego. I also have fond memories of playing fighting game's at Nickel City in Cali. Oh, I can't forget Flipper McCoy's on the Va Beach strip. Reminds me of such a great time and era. I really want to visit/ move to Japan to see their Arcades with wall to wall fighting game's. 😄
I think almost every lifelong Street Fighter fan's story of discovering Street Fighter II is the same: "I saw a crowd gathered around an arcade machine, I managed to wade my through to the front to get a glimpse of the game...and my life changed changed forever." That was certainly my experience. I remember it as if it was yesterday: Ken vs. Dhalsim on Dhalsim's elephant stage. I could not comprehend what I was seeing. Like others, I had played the first Street Fighter to death, even though it was thought of at the time as the adults' game (I was around 7 or 8 when it came out, and kids played games like Double Dragon and arcade platformers) and I had the scars on my palms to prove it. So when I saw Ken looking the way he did (compared to how he looked in the first game), and this outrageous new character who's limbs stretched out the way Dhalsim's did, my 11 year old brain was in complete and utter shock. When I finally got to play it days later, I of course picked Dhalsim, because I thought his outstretched limbs gave him an obvious advantage. I can still remember my abject horror at his limbs being punishable. I lost my first battle of what would be hundreds, if not thousands of quarters spend on SFII against a Chun-Li player - and of course I immediately switched to Chun-Li as my main afterwards. That's the effect that Street Fighter II had on one emotionally right from the start: losses stung bigly and you didn't want to experience that pain again, so you immediately tried to figure out strategies that would give you a competitive edge. There is no way of underestimating Street Fighter II's influence on gaming. You're absolutely right to say lives changed because of that game. The next time I would feel a shock to the system comparable to that was seeing Soul Calibur on my friend's Dreamcast. I could think of virtually nothing else for days on end. That's why fighting games are so great; when the developers get it right, it's impossible to contain one's hype and excitement.
10. TMNT: Tournament Fighters (SNES/SFam) 9. Project Justice (Dreamcast) 8. The Kung Fu Master: Jackie Chan (Arcade) 7. King of Fighters '99 (Arcade) 6. X-men: Children of the Atom (Arcade) 5. Fatal Fury Special (Arcade) 4. Tekken Tag Tournament (Arcade) 3. Marvel Super Heroes (Arcade) 2. Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Arcade) 1. Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter (Arcade) Honorable mentions: Darkstalkers 3, World Heroes, Double Dragon (Neo Geo), X-men vs Street Fighter and Super Street Fighter II.
My favorites are: 1. Super Street Fighter 2 and 4 are tied for first. 2. Killer Instinct Trilogy (1, 2, and 2013 Reboot). 3. Mortal Kombat Trilogy, 4, and 11. 4. Tekken 3 and Tag Tournaments 1 and 2. 5. Super Smash Bros. 6. Marvel vs. Capcom. 7. TMNT Tournament Fighters. 8. Dead or Alive 9. Virtua Fighter 10. Battle Arena Toshinden Honorable mentions: WWE WrestleMania, Double Dragon 5, Fatal Fury Special, and Soul Calibur. Dishonorable mentions: Eternal Champions, Martial Champion, Time Killers, and BloodStorm.
I really loved 4D Sport Boxing on the Amiga. Looking back, I don't know what I was thinking... The ones that stand out to me now are 1. Virtua Fighter 2 2. Street Fighter 2 3. Soul Calibur 4. Tekken 3 5. Toshinden I still think that the early 3d fighters are the best. Most people reject the ps1 graphics as too ugly today but I think it's just as pretty as sprites just in another way. I love them
So glad you mentioned Killer Instinct! omg what a fighter for the time and the soundtrack!!The fighting genre was my first love in the early 90s. In terms of fluidity and control: 3rd Strike MVC 2 KoF Dream Match 99 Tekken 3 For nostalgia: Super Street Fighter 2 (Sega) Mortal Kombat (Sega) KoF 1994 (Arcade) Killer Instinct (Arcade)
10. BlazBlue Central Fiction 9. Dragon Ball FighterZ 8. Mortal Kombat XL 7. Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 6. The King of Fighters ‘98 (plus UM)/Capcom vs. SNK 2 5. Killer Instinct (2013-2016) 4. Vampire Savior (aka Darkstalkers 3) 3. Tekken 7 2. Super Street Fighter II Turbo 1. The entire Marvel vs. Capcom series
Gonna be a good video when Johnny starts with Geese's theme in the background! My list in alphabetical order: Garou: Mark of the Wolves Guilty Gear XX King of Fighters 98/XIII Marvel vs Capcom 2 Samurai Shodown II Soul Calibur 2 Street Fighter III 3rd Strike Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Tekken 3/5/7 Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown Future contender: Under Night In-Birth (series)

Fatal Fury 2. Mortal Kombat (The very first game) 1. Street Fighter II Champion Edition Honorable Mention, I have 3. Samurai Shodown, X-Men: Children Of The Atom, Marvel Super Hero's vs Street Fighter.
Killer Instinct. Absolutely #1 no question. When that cabinet rolled into the arcade for the first time, it was an event. None of us could believe the graphics, it looked like something 10 years ahead of its time. And the crazy characters and combos, weird sci-fi atmosphere reminded us of Mortal Kombat meets Running Man. On my 13th birthday I spent $100 just on this game.
Tekken series Soul Calibur Virtua Fighter Marvel Vs Capcom2 CVS Mortal Kombat trilogy Rival schools Power stone …..always been more of a racer I love some racing!! grew up on a junkyard and started driving at three it was in my blood!!
In no particular order - MK X Killer Instinct (snes) Last Blade (mvs) Garou Mark Of The Wolves (DC) Samurai Showdown II (mvs) Real Bout Fatal Fury (mvs) UMVC3 (ps3) Fighting Vipers (saturn) Fighters Megamix (saturn) MK3 (MD)
I'm glad to see Rival Schools get an honourable mention because it is my favourite fighting game of all time. The number one pick was pretty obvious because anyone who has ever watched this channel for a considerable amount of time knows how much street fighter II is important to your life. Still it is nice to see your placement of fighting games with regards to how much you enjoy them. My wife and I do play dragonball fighters Z every once in a while and we really do enjoy it even though we can't play it very often.
I think Johnny & I are around the same age.. I was born in ‘75 and I remember starting with Karate Champ.. I absolutely loved that control scheme and the deep realistic fighting mechanics.. I’d think they’d be able to remake that pretty well being dual analog sticks are really prevalent in this day & age.. I definitely understand putting MKII and SFII so high being they were so successful in the early 90’s.. I’m really not sure what my list would look like being I like a mix of old and new.. I have Dead or Alive 5+ on Vita and I love the way that one plays so I’d probably also love the others in the series.. I also believe Soul Calibur should rate high even not playing the original which seems to be very popular.. Soul Blade on PSX had a great deal of charm to it.. In that respect I’d probably put it up there.. SFIII has a nice fighting engine and is a splendid candidate.. But for whatever reason always is in the shadow of its predecessor.. Darkstalkers 3 is massively & criminally overlooked, as well.. I’ll have to sleep on this..
Your list is incredible, big props. I really like it. For me to make a top 10 I would have to make two lists, one for what I consider the most significant, and one for my favorites. What I consider the most significant: 1. Street Fighter II Turbo 2. Mortal Kombat II 3. Virtua Fighter 2 4. Tekken 3 5. SoulCalibur II 6. KOF '98 7. Samurai Shodown II 8. X-Men Vs. Street Fighter 9. Killer Instinct 10. Guilty Gear X Now my favorites: 1. Mortal Kombat Trilogy 2. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 3. The King Of Fighters XIII 4. Killer Instinct 5. Tekken 5 (Dark Resurrection update) 6. Street Fighter III 3rd Strike 7. Garou Mark Of The Wolves 8. Capcom Vs. SNK 2 9. Samurai Shodown V Special 10. Vampire Chronicle For Matching Service Now my dream would be to have a 2D Knights Of The Zodiac game made by Arc System Works with the love Dragon Ball FighterZ was made, but the series never took off in U.S. because of the terrible localization, despite being one of the biggest Anime franchises in the rest of the World. If they could make that, I can see it being my #1, easily.
Great video and great list as always! Here's my top fighting games: 1. Super Smash Bros. series 2. Tekken 3, 5 and Tag Tournament 3. Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 4. Super Street Fighter 2 5. Dead or Alive 2
Younger gamers won't realize the phenomenon that was Street Fighter II. Before SF2, arcade machines were mostly found in arcades (duh) and pizza parlors. After SF2, every corner liquor store had one. It wasn't uncommon to see crowds of 15-20+ gather around one machine to watch people play. Hadn't happened before or since. My friends and I would ride our bikes around town to find the best competition. For me, it was the first game to go from being a fun pastime to something I want to get better playing. SF2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting was the best version, even better than Super Turbo.
Wow! It is so interesting video! My best fighting of all time is "Dead or Alive 5 Last Round". The second is "Mortal Kombat 3" and the third is "Soul Calibur 3". Thank you for such a good video!
The first time I ever saw street fighter 2 was on the sega genesis when I was 7 years old I'm 32 now but I still remember that day. It had a impact on me.
From what I've played, in no particular order: - King of Fighters '99 - Marvel vs. Capcom - Tekken 6 - Smash Ultimate - Last Blade 2 - Rival Schools - Guilty Gear XX #Reload Not quite Top 10. But these are the ones I can genuinely say I loved.
My list, according to what I like to play and to watch at a professional level. 1. SFII: Super Turbo 2.Tekken 3 3. Jojo Bizzare Adventure (Capcom) 4. Street Fighter Alpha 2 5. Project Justice 6. Last Blade 2 7. Virtua Fighter 2 8. Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes 9. Capcom vs SNK 2 10. Hokuto no Ken
@@DSan-kl2yc Tekken is a super hard game to get into, the level of practice you need be at a decent level, is really tough, but its a really good button masher for people who like fighting games, but aren't hardcore about them. I love the early MvC titles, it was super unique for the time, I mainly enjoy them for the OST and just making weird teams haha. The pro strats are crazy in those games.
@@Renkaru Same. I like the visuals of MvC and I like the preceding games too. MvC just felt the most combo heavy. I actually played that at arcades at a pizza joint. I don't think I like most 3d fighting games. SC might be the only one. I liked Bloody roar casually but that game is definitely broken and not meant for skill play.
My favourite MK games is also MK2, I would say my no1 is Street Fighter Alpha 2, although i can completely understand why you have the original as no1, it made an impact like no other
Great Video Johnny. Really enjoyed watching this. I forgot about some of these games. As soon as I saw them from your list, I was sat here saying to myself "I owned that game" 😊
10. Dragon Ball Fighterz 9. Mortal Kombat 2 8. The Last Blade 7. Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike 6. Tekken Tag Tournament 5. Tekken 5 4. SoulCalibur 2 3. Tekken 4 2. SoulCalibur 1 1. Tekken 3 A lot of Namco fighters but in that era they where just amazing! :)
1) SF third Strike 2) Mvc2 3)MK11 4) SF2 Turbo Championship Edition 5) Tekken 7 6) Mark of the Wolves 7) KI 2013 8) Soul Calibur 9) Injustice 1 and 2 10) Powestone 2
I had never heard of Guilty Gear when I found it for the Playstation 1 in a store. It was really cheap, I think like the price of a hamburger, so I bought it. I liked the Anime look of the box art but was really expecting a crappy game. I was, well... pleasantly surprised at least. It was super cool and played really well and smooth.
Really hard to pin down an order but here are my 10 in a random order: Tobal No.1 Ultra Street Fighter IV Garou: Mark of the Wolves Last Blade 2 King of Fighters XIV Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Bushido Blade Virtua Fighter 4 Evo SoulCalibur 2
My favorite fighting game of all time is the first Marvel vs Capcom game. That was the game that got me into fighting games I remember my local laundromat in my old hometown had it there were no other kids or teenagers there so I decided to play it and it won me over I had some great memories playing that
Hello Johnny ! Cool subject. I don’t have a toplist(impossible) , but here is the biggest fighting game WOW!-moments for me over the years : 1st one ever played ”Way of the exploding fist” on Commodore 64 in 1985 Street fighter II on Amiga500 in 1991 Virtua fighter arcade game in 1993 Tekken 2 for Playstation in 1996 .....of course , a LOT of others in between all those , but these were the WOW moments for me personally.
