I like the use of felt. Great job! Most of the other stuff you have mentioned previously or have videos about. I enjoy the content and excitement you share. I like the OLED upgrade you've done too. What's next?

An alternative to black felt is to get black or dark grey trunk liner from anyplace that does automotive stereos. They use it to cover subwoofer cabinets
@COGuyStuff
@COGuyStuff 8 месяцев назад
Maybe for something’s, but that’s in no way the same material wise. The felt, you can fold and roll up anyway you like, it’s very thin.

@@COGuyStuff I used it to cover the entire front wall behind my screen in my theatre room (projection system) That and a black ceiling and walls really soak up any reflected light

Man o man.. you saved my money. I have 5.2.2 system running with denon Avr. For some reason i was about to ditch those 2 front speakers ( Book shelf ) and wants to buy 2 towers instead. So always had this same thought - why and what big difference that gona make. Am mainly a movie watcher and not much into stereo music. And you explained perfectly in the last point. Thanks a lot. Same thought process i always bugd me. Buyin towers and crossd over at 80 and smalls , which is totly limiting their potential. So why on earth would i wanted to spend so much money? Thank you man.. appreciated.

Great to see you posting these excellent home theater tips. Happy to see you are still hanging in with Polk LSIM series after all these years. Your Oled looks great-could you share what model it is. Thanks

Thanks! It's the 83" C2 - absolutely love it! BUT I do watch in the dark, that's very important for OLED.

Appreciate the video.... I'm still rocking Polk RTi12s as left/right mains (with a CSi30 center). We need to upgrade our display, though, because we're running an edge lit Samsung LCD and I can't stand the blooming with HDR anymore. We wanted to go with a Sony, as we had a good experience with a previous 1080p rear projection SXRD set (lasted over a decade with nothing but lamp changes), but I'm not sure what tech to choose - can someone help me decide? The screen will be used for 99-percent film watching in a dark room from DVDs, Blu-rays and UHD Blu-rays, so my instinct is to go OLED, but should I also be looking at mini LED, LCD with FALD or QD-OLED? It will be in a 65-inch size, and my primary concern about OLED is that it won't get bright enough with regard to HDR highlights. Can anyone direct me here?
@COGuyStuff
@COGuyStuff 9 месяцев назад
With a dark room, you are open to any of them. But as you guessed nothing does it all and all have pros and cons. OLEds weakness relatively speaking, is full or near full screen brightness due to heat. Any current top tier models are plenty bright for any details, small sections of a scene etc but for full bright scenes yes it’s nothing compared to led based. There were times my last Sony would actually make me squint, oleds aren’t in that ballpark yet. However, those types of scenes are in the minority. The vast majority of bright hdr is in details and partial scenes, and current tech OLED is great IF YOU ARE IN A DARK ROOM. Everything else about oled trounces led based sets. Like you my eyes could not stop seeing blooming and halos and all the other unavoidable cons to led sets, no matter how good they are. It’s always there and I’ll always notice it. I don’t regret oled at all, but would,have gone top tier miniled if I was not in a dark room.

@@COGuyStuff Thanks for getting back to me; much appreciated. Indeed, I keep reading in forums how OLEDs just don't get nearly bright enough to even enjoy HDR, and that concerns me; my current Samsung NU8000 actually puts out more nits than many OLEDs, albeit with ugly, raised black levels. What are the ultimate advantages or disadvantages comparing, say, mini LED, QD-OLED, OLED and FALD? Would I get much blooming with a FALD LCD or mini LED? Would OLED be a problem watching old DVDs or Blu-rays?
@COGuyStuff
@COGuyStuff 9 месяцев назад
Oh, no, no blanket statement like that is true. HDR is not just one thing. It’s all about how much on screen is meant to be super bright at one time. The vast majority of hdr highlights in scenes, are small sections, not full screen. Good oleds are absolutely fantastic for almost all content. You also can’t make blanket statements about specific features or advantages based purely on the type of it’s a combination of factors, how well any particular set performs. You just have to read and watch reviews and tests and see how well things do in areas that are most important to you.
@user-kv3ue5fp4c
@user-kv3ue5fp4c 9 месяцев назад
@@COGuyStuff I'm not saying I necessarily believe those blanket type statements; I'm just telling you what I've read and what concerns me, as this is going to be a huge purchase for us. In your estimation, is OLED perfectly suitable for dark room viewing of Ultra HD Blu-rays in a light controlled room? We were considering the Sony A80K because Best Buy had a great deal on it - I don't want to give Samsung another chance because of the bad luck we had with our current NU8000 (don't even ask - repair techs had to come out to our house THREE times to address issues out of the box while the TV was still under warranty), and I like Sony displays, but the new ones seem so confusing to set up. What's the deal with QD OLEDs? Are they much brighter than OLEDs?
@COGuyStuff
@COGuyStuff 9 месяцев назад
Again, you are asking questions that are not a yes or no answer. Yes imo for most types of scenes, oled is plenty bright for hdr in a dark room. Qdoled is not a single thing, it depends on what models you are comparing and what content.
