Could you do a video showing some methods for toeing in in-walls as theres very little info out there, I certainly can't find much if any. It seems to be a bit of a can of worms in regards to how it may affect the sound, for example if you if you introduce angles to the walls near the speakers instead of just having a flat wall for it to use as a baffle etc. 👍
@doublet147
@doublet147 Год назад
Enjoyed the video. It has a good amount of knowledge. I feel that it is important to mention that the toe in (which I'm a fan of) amount is very dependent on the off axis response of the speakers & the width of the room. Also, the "cross aiming" (there is a more technical term used for this but it alludes me) that you mention can create amazing outcomes, but it is IMPERATIVE to state that the speaker characteristics for this to happen, require that the speakers used, be of narrow dispersion. You CANNOT get the same results with wide dispersion speakers. This "cross" actually works quite well with floorstanding L & R speakers also (being that they have a narrow dispersion).
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
That's all true and most of it was mentioned but as you're doing this by ear it doesn't matter the room size or treatment plan or dispersion as we don't need to "think" about that stuff too much as our ears are hearing the result. All of that is a factor but the procedure accounts for it. I have gone over all of that in detail in other videos but I didn't want to make a simple video too complicated.

Can you make a video about having different brand of speakers on a 7 or 9 speaker bed layer? The idea being that in some home theaters (due to budget or other constraints) you can't always have perfect matching speakers

Im sure it depends alot on the speaker design itself but I run polk monitor 60 speakers in my 7.1 system and keep them Almost flat as far as toe in..they may be 1/8 inch if even...they are about 2.5ft forward of the back wall and 4 or more feet from side walls... the imaging is superb with these.. when I turn off the center and just run stereo, you would Swear there is a center channel operating..there is also surround ambience created around and behind me even though all effects are off in pure stereo mode, again so much so at times that ive swore the surrunds were on but they werent...... what I found with toe in is that too much and you begin to collapse the soundstage width as well as that surround ambience... my sweet spot is suprisingly large and doesnt require me to sit in a perfect position to hear that soundstage... just offering feedback of this particular setup...all systems and rooms are different of course and may require a different approach..
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
It does but as explained in the video our goal for home theater is coverage to as many seats as possible and to avoid steering which is a big deal to most that want a stereo image to more than one seat. That may or many not be something you care about.

Hey boss man! Thanks for the video! Question, if my Home Theatre is only set up for myself, and I have only 1 MLP, should I just toe in my mains (Klipsch 600m) & my Atmos (Klipsch 500sa) speakers enough to where the tweeter is pointing directly at my MLP ? Or should I still be doing the extreme toe in ? Thanks!

I found this messing around I use all kef HTS 5001 in 5.1.4 set up. I have a 3 setter couch I line the speakers from the left to right to the opposite arms of the couch also with the rear I do the same the top surrounds are all pointed to the centre of the couch the difference is amazing. I came reading down the posts because I thought it was something I invented obliviously not LOL .

Great content as usual on my go to channel. Advice! At what position/angle would I toe in my surround speakers, which are very slightly behind the couch in relation to my seated position? I have a 5.1 setup.
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Thanks Charles! For surrounds the most important thing is that they're visible when seated at all times. Often they're blocked by seated heads or adjacent seat backs all of which are no good. Assuming placement is good aim them them at the MLP but if they're within 10 degrees of 90 you can aim them straight.

@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Hey Mark, Man you've got some good eyes..😀. It sure is. I did a review on these a few years ago and was honestly quite impressed with how the 5.1 system performed. As for WiSA, at that time you could only use it on upper end LGs or Xbox. That was my only real issue. Soon after that review they had a new HUB come out that now can work with any TV. I haven't had a chance to try that out.

Instead of listening for the hiss increase at spot, is there a way to do it via a measurement with a mic?
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
yeah you could analyze the response but I don't see a reason to slow down and complicate the process. Measurements are great for some things but we have other tools that can be more useful in cases like this.

For Atmos I have Svs Prime elevation on front wall above the mains. Should I put them in the corners & toe them in, move to the ceiling & aim to mlp or leave them?
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Hey Lester. Atmos need to be at an angle similar to where the studio had them to recreate what's intended. Check out ep . 49 and it'll show you how to easily calculate where they ideally will be.
@jimmykaka89
@jimmykaka89 Год назад
So if I’m only concerned about my main listening position in my room (there are only 2 good seats for me) I don’t necessarily need to toe them in? I just need to follow the manufacturer guidelines for mounting position?
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
You need to toe them in even if you have one seat. No manufacturer knows how your room is setup, how close they are to side walls, how the room is treated.. etc.

I am in Australia and I am planning a new build. How do I go about getting a quote for a Atmos 5.1.2 plan? Unfortunately I have limited space the room is 3.82m (12.5feet) wide x 3.6m (11.8 feet) long - 2.75m high (9feet). I think we will need to put the couch against the rear wall. My current plan is to have the rear speakers at 1.2m high (47 inches) pointing inwards and the top speaks just in front of the sitting position (trying to get the35 degree arc). With an OLED TV how do you place the center main? Won't it end up being too low or too high? I was thinking of a 77inch tv - no more than 85 inch.

Can you put Atmos height speakers on the wall, and pointed at the seated position, if the wall is too close to the couch to be in the ceiling?
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
Atmos ideally will be at specific angles, those angles could be on the ceiling but also could end up on the wall depending on ceiling height and how close to the wall the seats are. See ep 49 and it'll help you quickly find the "ideal" location for your atmos. BTW no matter the surface they're on you would assign them as tops not heights as it's all angle based and atmos is mixed using speakers in the location of tops. Heights are much lower and not used for atmos mixing.
@ants9574
@ants9574 Год назад
@@hometheatergurus if we are using height speakers as Atmos. Would we still assign them as front and rear tops instead of front and rear height?
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
@@ants9574 if they're placed where tops go they're tops. The surface they're mounted on is irrelevant. It's all about the angle they are at.
@ants9574
@ants9574 Год назад
@@hometheatergurus if they are placed where Dolby recommends the front and rear heights should go , can we still assign those as top front and top rears , or should we assign it as front and rear heights
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus Год назад
@@ants9574 no because tops is a placement not a speaker.. If you place them at the placement (angle) of heights they're assigned as heights.

How come you can toe/aim every ht speaker but you cant toe-up/aim a low center channel?
@hometheatergurus
@hometheatergurus 6 месяцев назад
Who says you cant? Now understand if your center is too low, angling up won't make it sound like it's where it should be, it's no different than you putting your head near the floor and looking at the MLP vs straight, you will still sound like you're on the floor. the idea of angling a center up is if you're too far off axis you may not be in the speakers ideal dispersion so angling it may help the response.

@@chubbinator35 You're very very welcome. If the room is symmetrical, the sub placement is symmetrical you may and often don't need delay between two subs, they're naturally aligned so if you have a good seat to seat as it is now and you have a decent response the room correction can work with, you wouldn't need a minidsp.
