Aww yeah Dark Messaiah of M&M, i still think it's best one i ever encountered, even Chivalry didn't felt as advanced as this , but it's just my opinion
Skyrim, Dying Light and Primal should not have made this list. For the record, I love all these games. Skyrim has made some improvements with its melee system from previous titles, but animations are not what's important. Having shield bashing as a default option helped add a bit more depth but there's still not much too it in comparison to other games. Dying Light's melee is a simplified version of Dead Island. Its melee is fun, but there isn't much to it. No analog control, and damaging body parts is less important. Far Cry Primal's combat suffers mainly from a lack of a block or doge option, meaning there's not really any depth to it. The animations are satisfying, but there's not much to do.
>Skyrim is on this list Where the fuck is Mojo's minds. Skyrim is literally run up, and spam Mouse1 in hopes your enemy dies. THe only variety in melee combat is different damages, different swing speeds, and "power attacks", that in general, power attacks are just a swing for a chance to stagger and deal slightly more damage at the cost of your running bar. And usually, anything slow like maces or war axes usually would get you more killed than victories. Why is Skyrim on this list? Take it off.
Dishonored should be the first on this list, you can do many combos with your weapons and skills. I saw some sick combos and I was shocked bcs i didn't knew Dishonored was so tactical and stealthy
"Breakdown" for original Xbox was also a good first person game with melee attack. in fact it was one of the pioneers of that. definitely didnt get as much credit in gaming as it should have
Mount and blade should be on the list bc of its melee gameplay not just that you can create army as well so you wouldnt go alone in battle if you wage a war
i think skyrim isnt on this list for tactic or skill, but because they did a great job of putting you right into the middle of a fight. I still find it thrilling to fight off multiple enemies with my preffered and customized weaponary
My Mom walked in while I was watching this so I switched to the ISIS recruitment page to make it easier to explain because my mum doesn't like video games
I remember how my weapons would hit bodies lying on the ground instead of the enemies still standing in front of me in that game as well. 10/10 hit detection.
There are so little first person melee games that they needed Skyrim to round out the list. I mean, it's under Dead Island for god's sake. And Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is only a honorable mention.
Skyrim is shit in any aspect. Quests, fightings, roleplaying are suck at this game....Oh wait! There is only one good thing - u can mod it so mad, that it can turns in a forest survival hunting simulator.
Gummy worms best friend Lover you dense fucker. Do you not understand how you can reskin a game and charge 60? This is ubishit at its finest. Nothing changed but the time period/weapons/animals changed. This could easily be a DLC. At least when they did blood dragon it was a damn good DLC
Yes, Blood Dragon was only 20 bucks. Because it was just a reskin... made for fun. Primal... was a full on new game. And offered more new material and changes then FC4 did when compared to FC3. Melee focused combat, new crafting system, open ended story/mission structure. The developers had three original dialects created for the game. New animal gameplay mechanics. And, while they did use the same map template from FC4, the changed the made itself so much that people didn't notice until someone wanted to see how large the world was... and compared map size against previous games. FarCry 4 was more like DLC... as it felt like FC3 in almost all ways. Primal shifted the entire feel and presentation of the series.
Severance Blade of Darkness, have better first person combat than Skyrim(and it's clunky as f- compared to playing third person), Skyrim have no reason to be on any list mentioning anything with combat.
Some amazing games on this list, damn I remember Escape from Butcher Bay, that came out of nowhere, what a gem. Shadow Warrior was epic too, can't wait to play the sequel! And Condemned: Criminal Origins, that scared the shit out of me back in 2005.
Yes chivalry is real fun and has one of the best fighting gameplay I ever played. The only thing is, once your level is too high for the beginner servers, it gets really hard.
@Rapid FireINDONESIA Skyrim is an insult to RPG genre, it is not an RPG game. It's an open world action-adventure with some poorly designed RPG elements. Morrowind was an RPG.
@Dj Zonava Nice argument there, fuckface. Skyrim is a shallow, dumbed-down insult to RPG genre. It's a good open world action-adventure with absolutely fantastic atmosphere. But next to that beautiful world to look at, there is not much else to do or if there is it is badly designed or executed. Just a bunch of boring, uninteresting repetitive tasks that have no impact on the world around you once you are finished with them. Morrowind was an RPG, Skyrim is not. I'm an RPG lover and my passion is crunching numbers while making different, well balanced builds, dealing with impactful consequences of my actions, affecting the world around me in different ways and participating in great, immersive stories that take my mind from the world I'm currently in to the well written, fantasy one. Skyrim offered me very little of that. I didn't get what I expected... Just a huge, pretty but boring world. The Elder Scrolls series started as an intelligent, well-written RPG series but creators decided to dumb it down and adapt it to casual players and make more money. That is why some people hate Skyrim and they have every right to do so. And Bethesda did the same thing with my favourite game series in the world: Fallout. New Vegas was the last good fallout game, Fallout 4 was a bitter disappointment. Bethesda is dead to me.
So glad to see Condemned at #1! Easily one of the most underrated titles of the last gaming generation, and a fantastic entry in the survival horror genre courtesy of Monolith Productions! F.E.A.R. and Blood are similarly stellar horror games that everyone should check out!
Earth O' Pedia Don't laugh, I know that from what you've seen there are only three attacks you can use, but it's so much deeper than that. I encourage you to look into it tbh
Earth O' Pedia It doesn't have a large community of players because most people give up before they understand the more complex side of the game. There are skrims between different clans at the highest level and there are prize pools too. Just because it isn't on MLG doesn't mean it isn't competitive. I'm sure there are allot of competitive games which aren't on esporets.
the second skyrim was on the list I had to stop Honestly this list should be (In no particular order because its all my opinion) Chivalry, that game with knights pirates and ninjas(for some reason), Weirdly GTA5?? Mount And Blade (probs with warband) I am scanning through my steam list, realizing how underqualified I am to make a list just on exposure But please. PLEASE. Swinging a sword through the air at a target with a blood sprite and being told thats fucking *good*? Not only that but **Amazing**?? I dont think a single person here is sorry that you guys got hacked
WatchMojo: Top 10 Games with Amazing First Person Melee Combat Combat: Oh, Cool! maybe some Chivalry? Or how about som- WatchMojo: Number 10, Skyrim. Combat: Am I a joke to you?
Mirrors Edge Catalyst’s combat has me coming back years later. The way there’s so many ways to approach and attack; whilst the enemies have a revolutionary awareness of each-other, keeps the combat so fresh feeling. I only wish there were more goons to fight at one time.
Chivalry would be on my top list, it is one of the best first person melee fighting to this day. The game has multiplayer and each person's fighting in the game is completly diffrent. You're never know who or what you might come across
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic has the best First Person Melee combat system, but that game is only an HM ? Are you fucking kidding me? But Skyrim ofcourse is here, even though TES games have pretty bad combat systems..
No Mount and Blade? Dark Messiah just an honorable mention? Nope, I can tell now that this is more of a "top 10 games we selected simply because we don't know better"
Yes, Dishonered best after Dark Messiah. PS: Try using demon form and doing strong atack while running towards an enemy. Nothing can even be compared to that!
DO NOT BUY CHIVALRY: MEDIEVAL WARFARE! The developers abandoned it and started working on a new, almost exact same game, but with magic. Chivalry has many bugs and it is filled with players who play it constantly so after lvl 15 you are forced to play with them and you are gonna get rekt. The weapon unlock system is bugged, you lose all your weapons you worked hard for at some point.
To be honest that is how i felt too at first but after some thoughts this game would be pretty dull without the ballet dances. It would just be constant blocking and feints, and 1 v 3 would be somewhat impossible
There is no amazing first person melee. Melee requires 3rd person to be amazing, due to field awareness and all the restrictions regarding the field of view. There is melee that's good enough that it survives the fact that it is implemented in a 1st person game. That alone could make it amazing in its own way, I guess, but it is nowhere near the potential of an amazing 3rd person melee.
are you fucking kidding? mirrors edge catalyst, dishonored ad dark messiah all have far better combat than fucking skyrim!!!!!! skyrim is a great game, but it has some of the most boring and repetitive combat ive ever had to endure
i dont see why so many people hate on skyrim. i understand that everyone has their opinions, but still, there are those people who enjoy it, such as myself, who do not appreciate the hate, so please stop with the "its the worst game" and the "this list is crap because it was on it". its not like it was #1 on the list
The SuperWhoLockian they aren't hating on the game, they are hating on it's combat system. Skyrim is a great game, my 3rd most played hame, but honestly the combat is pretty awful.
I don't think Skyrim was a bad game. I just hate that people are labeling it as an RPG. Skyrim is a shallow, dumbed-down insult to RPG genre. It's a good open world action-adventure with absolutely fantastic atmosphere. But next to that beautiful world to look at, there is not much else to do or if there is it is badly designed or executed. +Manuel Tokić How was Morrowind majorly different in those aspects? Unless dice-roll combat and more skills magically completely separates it from Skyrim as an RPG, they're very closely the same. And you don't even need to worry about builds in the long run since everything can be leveled to max anyway. There are also countless ways to exploit Morrowind to make Very little of Morrowind's quests have any weight on any other aspects of the game outside of the related NPC disposition or a few pieces of dialog. As far as the stories, that's completely subjective. Morrowind's plot is my favorite of the modern titles, but I don't see how the quality has really changed in any of the campaigns. Most differences feel more like defining characteristics of each province's culture than a reduction in quality(Morrowind having more political segments being accepted as the Nerevarine). There's a number of ways Skyrim has taken steps back(it's made a decent amount of improvements in other ways), but seems like those are smaller issues for the series.
Highly disagree on skyrim the combat is good but it is a bit wonky and unless you are playing on above adept you just hit and drink potions and this is coming from someone who spent 1000+ hours into the game. and it is one of my favorite games.
Skyrim should be 1st.....on the worst melee combat list. The combat was floaty and you seemed to be striking at thin air when meleeing. No impact at all.
