How the hell is Homare Sawa's flick shot goal in an impossible angle against the U.S. not number 1? It's not even mentioned in the top ten? That was like one of the greatest goals of all time!

The greatest goals (IMO) are the most amazing plays/shots combined with context (pressure of the situation, significance of the game). In that sense, when you put together the technical brilliance of Homare Sawa's equalizing shot against the US in the finals, and the intense context in which it took place (trailing late in the World Cup Final, against a bigger, stronger team, in the shadow of the Fukushima tragedy and Japan's dark times), no goal in the tournament could compare (neither in history, drama, or momentousness) with Sawa's. Once again, only expressing my opinion! Many brilliant players and tremendous goals in the tournament, but my heart must go with Sawa!

I'm American, but the only reason Wambach's goal was number one was because it was a very, very, very late equalizer and Rapinoe's cross was world-class. She practically put the ball on a silver platter for whoever was on the other end. Heck, even I could have headed it in. Other goals on this list deserved to be above it. Oh, and the commentator on these FIFATV videos sucks. Give me Ian Darke!

I don't understand why Wambach's goal is number. She's just standing there lucky to receive such an amazing cross from Rapinoe. Just like most her goals really. Her teammates are the better players. I understand the magnitude of her goal but it's not a "Top goal". No where close to the top ten to be honest.

Best World Cup ever, my two top favorite teams won their semifinals 3-1. And Japan my favorite won the trophy with my second fav USA finishing second. I cheered for both teams all the way through, can't wait till Saturday 2015

you would understand if you watched the match in 2011. The goal is the latest goal in women's world cup history. In the 20 years of the women's world cup there has never been a later goal. This goal saved the U.S. from elimination because the score was 2-1. the goal sent them to penalties which won them the game. The goal is also important because the country they were going up against is the country that was responsible for the U.S. biggest defeat in women's footballing history.(4-0 in 2007)

Women's football rocks, women have superb technical skills. I love and support women's football, and also female footballers are very beautiful.

Wambach's was a World Cup Final goal too, it was scored in overtime to force penalty kicks and give the U.S.A the eventual win. Besides that, heading a ball that perfectly, midair, from a cross that distance is really hard.

The US stunned Brazil. You knew when the US tied it up so late in that game that they would win on PKs. In the US Finale against Japan, you also knew that once Japan tied it up in extra time, they were going to win on PKs. They just had the momentum. The only team I was ok with the US losing to in the WC? Japan. Great World Cup all around though!

The people that are saying Wambach's goal shouldn't be number one, haven't watched the whole game. The fact that the US only had ten players on the field because of a ridiculous call against Buehler made the goal that much better. And the fact that Brazil had more leisure because the ref sided with them, makes the goal even more amazing than it already was. You have to watch the whole game to know why that goal is number one. The whole game, Brazil played harsh. And we were blamed because of their actions. Also, that goal was made with 122 minutes into the game with Brazil wasting time because of one there players acting like they were hurt. So the fact that we got that goal with the circumstances we were in, still gives me goosebumps to this day.

That cross from rapinio to Abby was the best thing of the worldcup ...one of the inspiration that laid further to USA

Number 1 was number 1 not because of the technique, but because of what it did. Watch the entire game, the full thing. It was a goal that brought hope back and brought the majority nation of the U.S. to acknowledge their women's team. Sometimes, it's not about the technique of the goal, but the after math.

As far as impact, I say number 1 because of the context. Aesthetically though, it's gotta be number 4: very calm chest down, wonderful touch over the defender, then the volley. The beautiful game, indeed.

Because of the situation. Quarter Final Game. USA was down 2-1 in 2nd half of extra time. The 4 official signaled 3 added minutes. Half way though the 123rd minute the goal was scored. The US them went on to win the game in penalty kicks.

I'm going to pay a lot more attention to women's football from now on.

Number 1 was a great choice! Best goal charts and stuff aren't just based on whether it's a long shot or a fine piece of skill, its also based on impact. Wambach's header vs Brazil was scored in the 122nd minute of extra time! Literally last minute stuff which brought the game to 2-2. US then bravely wen't on to knock Brazil out on penalties 5-3 after some heroics by Hope Solo!

Im an American who usually routs against them since they really havent put out good soccer, just great athleticism. Im much softened on my views now, as the play has really improved, but that goal deserves a number one, not only is it amazingly well played, its at an absolutely crucial point in the match. I think Sawa's final goal not being included almost has merit as a fluke tap off of Wambach, but it might be the most important goal in the women's game's history.

It was the latest goal in history at time at 122 minutes after Brazil scored 2 goals one from a non existant penalty and another offside. the Referee was the most criticised one in history supporting more Brazil. Also brazil had wasted 3 minutes faking a injury of one which led to the extra time and the draw. It's the story behind the #1 goal which makes it great

To play for more than half a game with 10 players. To come back from a 2-1 loss playing in the 122nd minute at the World Cup Quarterfinals. And to risk all that you've got on possibly that one last chance of revolt. I DIDN'T THINK SO!!!

It says Top 10 Goals, not 10 Flashiest Goals. The dramatic nature of the goal adds to its quality. That's why everybody remembers Beckham's free kick against Greece in World Cup qualifiers and not the other bent in balls that were just as good or better.

#1 is number 1 because it was the goal in the 122' minute that tied up the game for the USA who went on to win the game and go to the final. That's why.

It was in the 122nd minute of extra time with less than a minute of the game left. That goal tied the match and sent the game to PKs, which the US subsequently won. Trust me, if you'd watched the match, that goal would've given you a heart attack.

Everyone is talking about Sawas goal not being on here, but what about the second goal? I thought that was class.
