Bowie was a nasty, xenophobic racist. It was in reaction to his, and Clapton’s, outbursts that RAR was formed (Rock Against Racism). I’m pleased to say that I was one of the 100s who booed him off the stage over his racist remarks at the “Babylonian Mouthpiece Show” hosted by John Peel.

So Kate Bush was the only one on the list that sang live. Showing the 'take no prisoners' approach that would define her records.

In Australia during the 70's and 80's there was a Top of the Pops equivalent known as Countdown and arguably the most infamous appearance on that show was from Iggy Pop and his over the top performance of 'I'm Bored'. If it had been on TOTP's it would definitely make the top ten, highly recommended.

In the US we had three or four different kinds: American Bandstand/ TRL, BET, a Saturday Morning l version, and Soul Train. All four went away by the early 2000s, which sucks. Miss those days.

List should include Maria McKee's live performance of Show Me Heaven and Gladys Knight singing Midnight Train to Georgia live and pregnant in 1976.

Thing with top of the pops is it's only in its final phase that full live performances were possible. 70s had the top of the pops orchestra; 80s was almost all miming and the early 90s live vocals to backing tracks

95% of the performances here are lip-synched and already number one hits, when TOTP changed to all live performances it became a different show, my personal favorite was The Hives 1st appearance, which unfortunately is not on RU-vid, in the stop-time when the band freezes and just the bassist is playing Pele introduces the band to the UK stating that the hives will be your new favorite band and you may not know it yet but it is inevitable, ladies and gentlemen of great Britain We are The Hives! Then he stands like Mussolini with arms folded like he's king of the world, their 2nd appearance is just as explosive, it's their "Hate to say I told you so" and you can find that here on the tube.

@@Ihaveexactlysubscribers-tk3tb exactly, but I would be hard pushed to remember a live performance by Queen on TOTP, as I recall Bohemian Rapsody was a massive no1 and that video got played for weeks so negating the need for a live performance?? I mean you tell me if I've not got that correct
