Mojo confused Queen at Live Aid 1985, with The Freddie Mercury Memorial Concert, Spring of 1992. Live Aid was about raising money for relief in Ethiopia famine, while the Memorial Concert was the first introduction of The Mercury Phoenix Trust which raises money for HIV/AIDS around the world to this day. Live Aid specifically was for relief due to the Ethiopia famine and was broadcast live from Wembley Stadium as well as John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia which were broadcast simultaneously. Wembley had 73,000 attendees, while the Philadelphia concert was attended by 81,000 plus people. Both concerts had top artists performing, and Live Aid was stolen by Queen and as Brian May was quoted to had said, That was the moment the entire world loved Queen. At first, Queen declined the invitation, but later decided to play there. For one ☝️ week before the concert, Queen practiced every day and honed the songs they were going perform into a 20 minute (their allotted time) mini-concert where they played 5 songs which were the best of Queen’s career. They practiced the set several times in the stadium itself, finagling with the sound to produce the best quality of sound where everyone would be able to hear the lyrics clearly, and produced the loudest sound allowed by the concert. Their sound engineer worked out how to get maximum sound without going over the decibels level required. They knew exactly how to fill the 20 minute gig, including time for Freddie interacting with the audience. By the time they took the stage late into the concert, most people there were there to hear their favorite band, and paid little attention to other performers. The second Freddie started playing piano, he had the audience enthralled. Even backstage, the performers paid attention to the next 20 minutes of pure perfection by Queen. While the dual concert would switch back and forth to performers, when Queen started, the cameras stayed on them for the full 20 minutes. Brian May would later recall that he knew the moment when everyone in the world fell in love with Queen. The Freddie Mercury Memorial concert featured top artists who would perform Queen songs with remaining Queen members playing the songs. Artists included stars like Elton John, Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, Guns N Roses’s Axel Rose and Slash, Annie Lennox and David Bowie, Luciano Pavarotti (one of Mercury’s favorite opera singers) and many more. George Michaels stole the concert performing “Love of My Life” flawlessly, where he drew in the crowd to sing the lyrics with him just as Freddie had always done. He was definitely channeling Freddie when he sang it. Two powerful performances, but definitely the Live Aid performance should have been in at least the top 5, if not at number 1. The entire world stopped what they were doing to watch Queen.

Even popular music: when Irving Berlin’s song “Blue Skies” debuted on Vaudeville the audience requested it to be sung over and over and over again - the singer had to encore the song like 30 times before the audience was appeased enough to let her stop.

@@loganroark3916 it was crazy but a good crazy cos everyone was there for the same thing, the music. The biggest problem was the heat. It was hot and sunny and the only way to cool the people was with water cannons. It was a lot of fun though, I didn't feel claustrophobic though, people were chatting and I'm still in touch with a couple of people who were next to me. That was just the way it was back in the day (god I sound old). No cell phones, no Internet, you made an effort to keep friends

david bowie critizized mtv for not playing black artists videos. david bowie always reminded me of michael Jackson for some reason even tho their music is different. they both changed their image often and they were very flamboyant and androgynes(i dunno who to spell that lol)and very good looking

@Jack Nicolas It's not about which moment was more Influential or who is better it's about the moments that brough changes in the industry, like you can actually categorize Music videos before thriller and after thriller and also, the way pop music sounds and how pop music went global after thriller. There's a reason why he is crowned "The king of pop" and has no argument for that title.

Queen, Beatles are a rock band, they influenced the rock genre mostly and as a group who played instruments. Where pop music and artists like MJ is more of a combination of choreography, dance routines, stage visuals, production and Music videoes. Nobody is topping Beatles and queen in the rock game and nobody is topping MJ in pop music and you can't combine or compare these 2 genres and put one over other cuz they carry their own value, form, and impact.

The best part is that people weren't sure if Queen could put on a good show without their big lighting rig and pyrotechnics, but Freddie oozed charisma and proved the doubters wrong!

PF’s worst album is pretty weak, mediocre at best (if you’re talking about AHM or Ummagumma), while Queen’s ANATO has at least 8 out of 12 songs that are really good (and 3 of them are hits) so it’s a pretty strong album.

Glad someone else thought to mention Thriller! I remember my family, along with aunts, uncles, cousins and grandmother gathering together specifically to watch the premiere on MTV, it was that huge. To this day, it's the only horror "movie" I enjoy watching. 🙂

Tbh, I feel like that Beatles live performance should be lower. Like yeah, they revolutionised the music industry, but then, that would be referring more to their discography rather than this performance + it was full of screaming girls which ruined the vibe a bit. Queen at Live Aid should’ve been #2 bc it had more actual impact, especially since it was for a good cause.

Yeah, The Beatles on Sullivan is #1 and then a huge gap to whatever you want to put at #2. That moment is the beginning of pop music and youth culture being intertwined into the fabric of society which would last until the end of the century before the world “shrunk” due to technology and music in general holding a lesser place in youth/pop culture. That’s why I really appreciate all the movements in modern music that came after The Beatles: psychedelic, heavy metal, prog rock, punk, new wave, and my favorite -being a Gen X’er - alternative/grunge…just to name a few movements/revolutions. Since the end of the 20th century, basically the end of grunge/alternative, music hasn’t had a prominent role in defining or expressing youth culture like it once did. I really miss that in general and think all the generations after X are kind of deprived on that front. The spirit of this truism started with The Beatles on Sullivan which was before I was even born but I fully recognize that and appreciate it. What the Beatles gave us was magical because each subsequent movement/revolution was directly influenced by them. For my generation, guys like Kurt Cobain and Eddie Vedder let this be known in words as well as in their music.

Sorry. Elvis on Ed sullivan is number 1. According to the Beatles number 2 man. Without elvis there would be no Beatles. And just saying as far as live performing. Elvis on his worst day can outperfom them on their best day even at his fattest and drugged out mind. Your guys were nothing special when it came to performing live. They were much better at home in the studio

Broadcasting a music event to over a billion people had never been done. Doing that in 1973 is pretty remarkable! It's done so easily today! They also did it with Neil Armstrong's moonwalk!

@@csnide6702 I listen to the first artist to get their own channel on Siruis, ELVIS, all the time on Dish and in my car. Three generations of us. He is one of the only artists on Sirius that play only his music. Most others play a lot of other artists.

ALL by himself. He is not a member of a band. All alone, with good musicians around him, ELVIS has done some amazing things that get overlooked. He will live on forever, even being overlooked by these people who post on You tube. The 68 special was the first UNPLUGGED. Another amazing time in his life in that black leather.

He was more of an influence in more musical genres than several people on this list including Queen. Plus the concert you’re talking about pretty much created The Smiths, The Cure, Oasis and a hundred different bands and musicians who literally changed the face of music.
