Yeah I mean, people remember the 7-1 but, they forget that this was IN BRAZIL, and Brazil also lost the 3rd place match in another absolute annihilation by the Netherlands. I believe it was 5-0, 5-1 etc. I mean, they were outclassed horribly in 2 home matches in a row.

About Brazil and Uruguay, I remember seeing a documentary about that cup, were the Uruguay team said that they loved the Brazilian atmosphere that every one was happy and every day was party and that they were enjoying a lot, and after they won, everything changed, to the point they genuinely felt sad about winning

All this in the group stages of FIFA World Cup 2022. This edition in Qatar has been shocking and surprising. Hope to have more exciting matches in round of 16, rather knockouts.

Since I'm Korean, great upsets were: 1. Brazil got crushed by Germany in 2014 (7-1) 2. Germany ended up going home in the group stage when South Korea beat them by 2:0 (2018) 3. Portugal got beaten by South Korea (2:1) in this year's world cup.

Fan correction. Bulgaria lost to Italy whom was a 94WC finalist but lost to Brazil in penalties. Also you forgot Costa Rica in WC2014 were the had no shot against Uruguay, Italy, and England. And some how won that group.

Costa Rica 🇨🇷 from the 2014 World Cup should have been in this list. They finished first in a group with Uruguay, Italy, and England. Defeating both Uruguay and Italy. And tying England. They went to the Quarterfinals and get eliminated by Netherlands with penalties. Everyone at the start of the tournament thought they would finish dead last with zero points

Bulgarian here. When we faced Italy in the semifinals in '94, we were snubbed of two penalties and we're overall cheated by the Referee, even if we played better. Why? Because a small and insignificant country such as Bulgaria could not go to the finals when a lot of money is at stake.

Algeria played the last game of the group stage hours before Germany x Austria. So, the Germans and Austrians knew the score they need it for both teams to advance. If Germany won, but only by 1 or 2 goals, Germany and Austria would advance. And so, after Germany scored the first goal, they stop playing to win, and just played to pass time.

I would say Senegal beating France in 2002 was the biggest WC upset. Saudi's win ranks 2nd Imo. I only rank that 2nd, because Saudi had World Cup experience before and had a very strong crowd backing them.

Man Saudi Arabia definitely will be feeling good if Argentina wins the world cup. Theyll have been the only team to beat them, they just couldn't quite get through the group stage in the end sadly, was close vs Mexico, and they honestly played better for a lot of the game vs Poland but just didn't get the right luck. This has been a great season for upsets though. Some of the results I think we're now seeing aren't upsets but rather new great teams in the FIFA international team world. Morocco and Japan especially definitely have shown it wasn't a fluke that they won their groups, Japan just couldn't quite get their shootout to go their way and Morocco on the other hand did.
