As always thank you for this amazing video. If i can i would suggest 3 things: 1) pasta after a couple of year develops some bugs in the inside and it become dangerous. So in my kit i had to vacuum seal pasta, and it will last forever ( this is a trick from an italian 😉) 2)a big bottle of medical disinfectant can save you.. and you can use it also for little bruses, light fire (just whit the stronger ones) 3) i had recently added in my hygiene set a box of 100% charcoal capsules. I use them as tooth paste, water purification, and for stomach problems or intoxications or poisonings (in case of)

That's a lot to think about. One category I would add would be "Entertainment" - After sitting around in the dark for a few days eating Ramen noodles, you're going to start getting really bored. How about a deck of cards and a couple of board games? People with pets and/or children would need some additional supplies too.

Honey is great option, because it is one of two products which don't have expire date. Second is an alcohol. This is known fact. If honey is natural, no chemicals inside, no sugar added, it is good forever.

Entertainment, if you're bugging in you may want cards and board games. Electronics are not going to last for ever, and if the internet is down your online games are not going to work on your phone or tablets. Great video.

Pretty solid list, man. I've been prepping for a while, but I couldn't argue that my preps are better than yours. It all depends on the situation. I live in a house in the suburbs, but some of the residential defense modifications I've done would work for an apartment. Long screws in the door latches, strike plates, and hinge screws; wireless alarm system, etc. Anything which gives you advance notice of someone trying to get your preps. In a SHTF, if someone spends 2 minutes busting down your door, you've got 2 minutes to prepare for it.

Books! Start a prepping library for First Aid How Tos (even if you took the classes it still gives good reminders), Foraging Food, Living in the Woods, Natural Medicine, etc. The internet more and likely will be down so it's always good to have these things handy and if bored....gives you something to read. Myself...I have book son Canning, Drying out food, Hunting/Fishing/Trapping, Homemade weapons, SAS Survival Handbook, Foraging, Gardening, Medical books, Natural Remedies, Military Survival Manuals. etc.

@@lynnmasoner7627 The best way I'm able to get my library to the way it is...buy cheap, used books. Thriftbooks and Alibris...I always look there in case it's cheaper than Amazon. Normally it is by $2-20 per book. When I don't have the money to spare. I ask hubby for books I really want as presents. Always building on my library though. Hopefully I won't need the info but hoping I can still pass it down to my lil ones, in case they need it.

I'd be careful with foods that require water to prepare. If the taps stop running they become a problem. I just spent a few days with no tap water after a winter storm. My town had no running water and the stores sold out immediately. The water on hand was needed for drinking and flushing toilets. In an urban environment water can be hard to source if the system goes down. Canned goods and peanut butter became the go to for my family. Disposable dishes and wet wipes for sanitation also came in handy. I have a small place so storage is difficult. We filled the bathtub and had cases of water on hand, but still had to collect snow melt to help keep the toilets clear. 5 people use a lot of water! We considered bugging out to a relatives, but the weather and road conditions were pretty bad.
@zacharylewis417

Well you could still eat the food. Just won't taste good lol.
@Bankable2790
@Bankable2790 2 года назад
I’ll give you a good refutation of that. Dried food is extremely light. Probably 80-95% of the weight of food is water. Think about how much a can of green beans weighs, then how much the actual, dried uncooked beans weighed before h they were out into it. Moisture allows foods to break down. All microbes need water for development. If you are serious about long term prepping of food stores, you need mass quantities of food. So all those reasons make wet food difficult to store (weight, price, longevity, ability to transport, etc.). Secondly, water is not hard to come by. You could easily fill your tub with water or get a clear tub liner that is made for that purpose in case of an emergency so that the water is clean.
@Bankable2790
@Bankable2790 2 года назад
Also, in your case, you had access to water (ice and snow) just didn’t have a good way to make use of it. So if you had heating or power or flame with fuel and a way to filter any sort of contaminants that might be in precipitation (like from acid rain etc) you would have been ok. Also, in my area, water is VERY VERY easy to come by. So even though I have probably 10 gallons of water in the closet, I also know between my house’s 6 toilets (the tank on the back), 5 tubs and two hot water tanks, I’ll probably be ok. Also it helps we have a literal lake in the backyard. But at any rate, you shouu to ld have 2-3 weeks of food you regularly eat on hand anyway. So that would include wet foods

Nice video I have only really been prepping for about 2 years and have not got half of what I need . But as an avid camper I find that I already have a lot of what I need for bugging out. I suggest that you can get a solar shower to add to your hygiene area as they are very light and roll up nice and small. I have 4 of them in my camping gear. A lot of what you have talked about I have in my camping gear all that I am missing is an NOAA radio and walkie talkies. So I am trying to work on getting those currently. I don’t have any food or water stored though which I know I desperately need. I do have a couple of different options for the water which is nice but I need more. Thank you for all of your suggestions. They do help on making improvements to what I have and what I still need to get.

I would add a general toolbox. you never know what will come up and you'll need some basic tools. We used to camp a lot so of course we have coleman stoves. We also have sterno cans and the little stoves that go with those. A good idea is to pack the trunk of the vehicle with bug out supplies as well. That way you are ready to roll at a moments' notice Good job with your video

Yes. I agree with your tactics and most of your preps... nevertheless, being prepared requires a plan and a community. Therefore, in my family preps I commit a lot more time in practicing evacuation drills, having my kids and wife up to date with our emergency plan. Just as important as the gear and supplies you mentioned there should and equal amount of attention and efforts towards making and fortifying a family plan, having emergency contacts and having a plan to reunite in case the family becomes separated and or lost.

Learn where the hot water tank is located in an apartment and it will be a source of safe water in an emergency. Most of these tanks will be 100+ gallons and a 5 gallon container should be used to help you carry up the water to apartment. There is a clean out tap on bottom of tank and it should be tested by running out some water twice a year (test during day light saving) to flush out any sand debris that accumulate on bottom of tank, a bonus is it makes tank last longer and test seal of tap. When actually using it in an emergency you must first turn off gas or electric and then shut off main water inlet valve (usually on top of tank) to prevent any back flow of contaminated outside water and open the over pressure safety valve (lifting valve lever on top of tank) to break vacuum when dispensing water.

A neat idea for being in an apartment is that, when cleaning out your bbq or fireplace, keep the ash. If the water goes off in a SHTF situation you can line a bucket with a bag to use as a toilet then use the ash to keep the stench and bacteria to a minimum till you replace the liner bag in the bucket. Just throw a layer of ash, about a cup or two, in after using the bucket to allow a few more uses before needing to replace the liner. It'll stretch your "potty prep" and make it last way longer and it'll reduce the risk of disease.

Tools incase something breaks. Nails and screws to Secure your doors and windows. And I’m sure you have one or more but fire extinguishers. Fuel, oil, coolant, transmission fluid for your car with tire plugs fix a flat air compressor.

Yes! Awesome addition.. We did a great video on a fire kit... It is good for putting out small fires you start and awake for but.... best to evac ASAP if that happens. Repair tools is also important.

Another topic I personally think for prepping with multiple people or just yourself is entertainment/moral sustaining. After all people are social creatures and require constant stimulation otherwise the isolation gets to you and tempers begin to rise or moral begins to fade. This may happen mostly after a long period of time of SHTF situations, such as multiple weeks, but even for a few days its always best to have a few favorite books that you wont get tired of reading, a few card games or even a mini board game.

Study for and earn your ham radio license. Saw many people recommending Baofeng FM radios and those are great. But just being “legal” in an emergency is not enough. You need to understand the concept of a repeater and you need to make sure you know how to program up those radios to work most effectively. You can also get ham radios that will operate in HF bands which will allow you to talk around the world. Something that Baofeng handitalkie won’t do. Otherwise, just go by some Family Radio Service radios for $10 and use them legally any time you want.

I wish we had the same range of supplies and gear available here in the UK, that you have in the US and Canada, I'm so jealous. PS keep up the good work!

Great video and thought provoking topic. Baofeng radios are a cheap way to beef up your coms. One thing I would also think about is waste disposal if your toilet goes down and you can’t go outside. We have a camp shitter and plastic bags. I figured we would just burn the bags in the fire place but wood and/or natural gas won’t last forever. Maybe the bags would burn well enough on their own but I doubt it. We’re pretty stocked up on shit tickets and duct tape but they won’t fix this problem. I know we could just throw it out the window but that could cause some Op Sec as well as health/sanitation issues. It’s a dirty subject but it needed to be discussed. What are your thoughts? Thanks for sharing.

I know this video is over a year old, but I wanted to add that you can buy coffee in tea bag style and pods. I have yet to see those on any bug out bag or even camping videos. The tea bag style is exactly like brewed coffee but in a tea bag, so it tastes almost exactly like you get from an actual coffee pot. :) I always have those on hand-in my car, in my purse I keep 4-6 and a a few boxes on hand just in case. I also own a single cup brewer that sits on my cup. Pour over style. It is what I use on a regular basis. Love all your videos! Thank you for making them! :)
