Top 10 hints and tips for getting the most out of your motorcycle apparel

Would it be wrong or immodest of us to suggest that, here at Motolegends, we have more of a technical bent than most motorcycle apparel retailers? And would it be too wide of the mark to suggest that we care more about making gear work for our customers than do most retailers? That is not for us to decide, but in our desire to make motorcycling more comfortable and enjoyable , we have assuredly picked up along the way lots of little tricks and ideas to help riders get the most out of their gear.
None of the stuff we’re talking about, frankly, is rocket science, but as we’ve said before a lot of the knowledge and wisdom that has been accumulated by riders over the years simply doesn’t get passed on to the next generation. In fact, it probably wasn’t passed on by the prior generation either; and of that we can be fairly confident about because there are lots of bikers who have been riding for many, many years who still have no idea about how to dress properly for the bike.
In this review Chris imparts 10 little nuggets. This is the kind of stuff that is grist to the mill for us here in the shop; the kind of stuff we talk about every day of the week. But from our conversations with customers in the shop, we know that some of the basic principles we are talking about aren’t understood by a lot of riders. And so we thought it might be worthwhile passing a few of these ideas on.
Now, as ever, there are going to be some smarty pants out there who know everything; and certainly everything we talk about in this little video. And if this is the case, you should write to the BBC and demand the Blue Peter badge you always coveted as a kid. You deserve it. But the hints and tips in this video are aimed more at those who haven’t been biking since they were old enough to walk. And we think some of these people may well find that they will learn something from this video that will make their biking just that wee bit more enjoyable. Certainly, we hope so!

The plastic bag trick is ace, I've nearly fallen base over apex so many times trying to thread my boot through the pant. Thanks!

Hi Chris, your sponge in the helmet trick has almost certainly saved me buying a new helmet and many hours of headache free riding (I am obviously subscribed and love the English wit & fashion 😃)

Another great video! Keep them coming! Disagree on the perennial debate though: cuffs inside jacket when riding in the wet on my BMW: tick; cuffs inside when riding in the wet on my Harley: big mistake as my hands are above my elbow due to the handlebar and seating position; hence, cuffs outside on my Harley

My name is Karl and I am a senior rider. I am gearing up to end a three year motorcycle drought. I am tenacious and research products to an almost dysfunctional degree. I truly enjoy your product reviews. I have noticed an evolution of my thinking due to your entertaining and informative style. I will be buying a used FJR sometime in late January-February. I will invest ($3k+US) in proper riding gear for the first time in over 40yrs of riding. I have noticed that most of the best gear you review is not available in Seattle WA. When I search other locally available products the narrators sound like Carnival Barkers compared to you. Therefore, I will be ordering from your shop. I hope, when I am ready, that I can talk...yes actually talk, to one of your managers and put an educated package together. Keep doing, what you do...so well! (Blazing Saddles reference).

Good tips Chris but on #9 surely a Waitrose sponge would be best 😂😂. Didn’t know about the heated grips and damp reversing the process of the membrane and great idea about the plastic bag. I find putting wet weather trousers with a padded liner a struggle even without boots on so the bag trick will help there: who’d have thought a 5p or 10 p bag could be so useful. 👍🏻

Utterly brilliant Chris. My favourite part was the plaggy bag over the boot to get your "wetties" on.. Back in my day, the plaggy bag was stuffed in your Belstaff pocket, to be used in case of emergency - ie - rain - but INSIDE your boot; the leather of which was a reverse of the Goretex science. ie - it allowed Mother Nature's bodily fluids in to your "Dry" gear, whilst carefully keeping hold of your sweat. The "Dry out" process for the gear was a three day procedure😁 ....... See you, Shaun and Steve on the 4th. Need to get Shaun's feedback on the Stadler for his commute during the recent "Hotties". Tell him not to be late !!!

Another tip: Make sure you fasten your waterproof jacket right to the top - if you don’t it’ll channel water in to your main jacket below. If it won’t fasten, you need a new waterproof jacket of the correct size.

One thing about waterproof scott over coat how do you put your gloves on underneath... i would hazzard a guess you would pull the sleeve up your riding jacket then pull it down over the gloves ?
@Motolegends
@Motolegends 3 года назад
Definitely gloves under Scott sleeves. Really your gloves should go under your main jacket anyway but if you are wearing the Scott over the top that is less of an issue.

It’s called the Walmart effect. New concept us as consumers have created within the past 60-60 years. You still have to cream a leather suit doesn’t mean it’s an inferior material to say Chinese plastic, or cotton.

I don't agree with this view that oh there is nothing wrong with the product, its the customer that is using it incorrectly. Any Engineer who studied at any respected institution will tell you that this goes against anything we've been taught. The product should be designed in such a way as to fit around the user, to deal with how customers will use it. If a designer tells me that oh their products is fine, its customers who use it wrong - all I hear is, my product sucks and I am making excuses for the failures in my design. Don't give companies excuses, tell them their products are breaking, tell them to fix it. I am an aeronautical engineer, if my colleagues went around saying well, there is nothing wrong with our planes, its pilots who cant use them, aviation safety wont be where it is today. Its due to the reason that every crash is investigated in extreme depth and detail, that aviation safety is where its at today. Actually the only time Boeing refused to address problems in their software, resulted in Governments grounding their planes until they sorted the issues.

I’m sorry but if I’m paying several hundred pounds for a helmet if it doesn’t fit I’m not putting a sponge in side , I simply won’t buy that helmet.
