What's sad, is that I believe on some radio stations they play the exact same recording every year, with the disclaimers that it is fake, and people still fall for it. Every year.

In the past animals adapted differently than they are today, look at the smilodon, it had two huge sabre teeth, if you only found those two teeth you couldn't simply assume it was from a cat 50' long that gulped down mammoths like a fox eats rabbits could you? For one, because they are adapted only to a certain pressure, go higher and you die, for second, even if they die at such depths pressure prevents bloating of a body and surfacing. So the claim that a vast majority of ocean bottoms is unexplored seems a tangible loophole for mythical creatures to exist. We also have the concept of *endemic* species. It may be that a creature of such size would live only in that one area of the bottom which we simply haven't discovered. The point is, we don't have evidence to speak that megalodon can still be alive today, but there is still a large enough field where we simply haven't checked to confirm it's all just a lie. This is one of those things that push us forward to new discoveries. I condemn people who try to find Yeti, but I don't discourage them from conducting research in that field cause it gets us closer to a definite answer, whether they DO exist or DO NOT. When cryptozoologists try to find a mythical creature and completely fail that is NOT a fail, it provides evidence that something does not exist, and is a tangible result, they shouldn't feel bad about it.
