It also flopped. It became popular from tv reruns. Frank Capra called it his favorite of his own movies, and showed his family it every Christmas

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner. While the story is simple with an interracial couple at the center, the main message is that two people of different races can fall in love and find compatibility. It's even more significant that anti-miscegenation laws in the US were abolished after the movie’s release and the movie came out a month after MLK got assassinated.

The Wizard of Oz(1939) is one of my favorite Classic Movies of ALL-TIME. The movie is one of the inspirations to one of my favorite Classic Anime Series, Brynhildr in the Darkness(2014). Both The Wizard of Oz(1939) and Brynhildr in the Darkness(2014) are an ALL-TIME Classic. I ❤ them both dearly.

I’ve had depression for quite a while. One day I’m having a very bad episode my husband mentions “It’s A Wonderful Life” and gives me my own Clarence rundown. It was silly stuff like “Who’s going to make sure product x is always available for customer A?” “Who is going to make cookies this Christmas?” It did lighten the mood a little.

High Noon was unforgettable for me as soon as I saw it, and I watch Miracle on 34th Street every Christmas. The scene where Kris Kringle could inexplicably speak Dutch to the girl in line gets to me like no other, and I swear the actress playing the girl's adopted mother was holding back real tears.

I agree that it’s an important film, but this was a list of inspirational movies. GWTW is pretty grim as its about a war where 750,000 men lost their lives

Gone With the Wind, like Citizen Kane, is more cynical than idealistic. When I think of an "inspirational" film, I think of one that presents one or more characters who embody the more positive, heroic side of human nature. GWTW doesn't have anybody like that. It's not meant to. It's a gorgeous-looking, well-acted film with a dark heart.

I have watched The Wizard of Oz and It’s a Wonderful Life over 100 times each, closely followed by Miracle on 34th Street and To Kill a Mockingbird. A few years ago, I took my 85-year-old mother to see The Wizard of Oz at the theater. While waiting for the movie to start, she told me she’d never seen it. I was shocked until I realized she had used that time, while my 11 siblings and I were glued to the television, to get things done. ❤

Gah! The Sound of Music. I loved that movie as a little girl and recently I’ve started watching it again. I understand all of the underlining problems with the Nazi’s and Hitler taking over Europe now so watching all of the Austrians sing together and watching the family running away to Switzerland makes me tear up

The Nazi subplot was why it took me a long time to sit through the movie a second time. And I still wish it ended with the wedding.

Who doesn't love It's a Wonderful Life. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favourite novels as well as favourite film. So many interesting characters and a great story.

I haven’t seen The Miracle Worker in years but my mom is really good at sign language and my sister was in the play (as the mother of Helen Keller) but I do remember that it’s a really good, moving movie. Even though it’s been many years since I’ve seen that movie

I never tire of Its a Wonderful Life (by the way I prefer to watch the original un-colourised version) or Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, along with other Capra films (Lost Horizon, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town … etc.

Reading some of the comments I couldn't agree more. Keep up your good work with lists like this. Your choices are some of my ALL TIME FAVORITES. I can & do watch them over & over. They ALWAYS give me hope & lift me up when I need it the most. In my long life I've been called sentimental, soft hearted & even "a cock-eyed optometrist". Yes, I wear my heart on my sleeve but I wouldn't have had it any other way.

5:24 -- the scene in "Miracle on 34th Street" in which Fred Gailey questions the prosecutor's son is nothing less than priceless. Agreed that the remake can't match the original. I have watched over and over again: It's a Wonderful Life To Kill a Mockingbird Miracle on 34th Street The Wizard of Oz The Miracle Worker Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

During the time of Soviet Russia the Communists showed the Grapes of Wrath to the toilers on a Collective Farm. As the film ended the Soviet Commissars asked the farm workers what they thought of the miserable lives of the dirt poor American farmers. There was a pause & from the audience a voice asked how could so many Americans afford cars?

Rule #1: NEVER show any clips from the colored version of It’s a Wonderful Life. Certain movies are only meant to be viewed in black-and-white and wouldn’t translate well to color. It’s a Wonderful Life being among them.

I have seen It’s A Wonderful Life about 3 or 4 times. I can’t watch the ending without crying but even many of the other scenes during that movie make me want to cry. It’s such a beautiful, hopeful and inspirational movie
