Deer Hunter by far the best. Remember picking up that movie as a teen in a yard sale, and when that seen popped up, I've never been so scared to watch something so suspenseful like that.

a Pyrrhic victory for old sam jackson at the end though... awesome movie. its number 2 for me. it even pays its dues to The Deer Hunter as we see the kid watching it earlier in the movie when sam visits his house snd later he asks sam if hes ever seen it. even methid man makes a cameo. fantastic movie. saw it likely a dozen times

if you like tense Russian Roulette scenes in movies, you have to watch 13, it basically that, but the entire movie. French version is the black and white one with higher rating on IMDB but the American version has pretty cool cast and Sam Riley is really amazing so it's up to you. I'd suggest watching both, first the French version then the American one (cast includes: Sam Riley, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Shannon, 50 Cent and more.)
Reason why deer hunter is the number one Russian roulette scene is because its 2 part. First when they are captured by the north Vietnamese and nick pulls an empty chamber, and at the end when nick pulls a loaded chamber.
We all knew Deer Hunter would be number 1. Also if you're too young to not know that Norman Reedus was in the Boondock Saints films then you're too young to watch TWD!

It just means "famous" now I guess. Too bad. Iconic used to mean symbolizing or standing in for something larger...as an "icon" of that larger thing. The roulette scene in "The Deer Hunter" was an icon of the whole movie...a scene that captured the feeling of the film...it was also an icon of the Vietnam War...the whole enterprise was suicidal. But when a scene from "The Boondock Saints ll" is called "iconic"...yeah, that word, like "epic" is done.
'Shadow Hours' should have definitely made the list, no doubt, and was almost as intense as 'Deer Hunter'. The scene in 'Way of the Gun' shown as an honorable mention here was an interesting variation as it was 'played' by using a bag full of revolvers with only one of them loaded rather than the typical Russian roulette which uses one revolver with one live round in the cylinder.
One Eight Seven only an honorable mention?!?!? Butshit! That should have been number one! I get, they said it was based on popularity, but come on... that was the best i've ever seen!
I would have included Alfred Molina's drug dealer Rahad in "Boogie Nights" at least as an honorable mention. The Russian Roulette part of that movie admittedly wasn't the only part that made Molina's particular scene intense, but it helped.
Yeah...that was super f***ed up. You couldn't help but feel really bad for William H. Macey's character.......Now that I think about it, you can't help but feel bad for nearly every character he's ever played🤔😂. Granted, he wasn't playing roulette, he did blow his head off at a party. I think both scenes were a tongue in cheek nod to wanting you to feel the self loathing and shame under the fast-lane lifestyle of cocaine, easy money, and just how ruthless and dirty the business is behind the scenes. Great movie regardless
The final scene in Vietnam from Deer Hunter should have been the clip used. That one hits far harder because right before he pulls the trigger you see Nicky agree to go home with Mike and then click boom.
