HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE💗I hope you had an amazing holiday season! I can't wait to share some amazing projects together this year!! Let me know which design trend is your favourite for 2022!!
So funny I have sage green walls now and I am redoing my cabinets and I painted them a swiss coffee and a very muted blue/gray color I can't remember the name of the blue but I am painting my walls repose gray so tired of the green lol. We bought our home last year and I loved the green but it is time for it to go lol. I also painted all of my interior doors and exterior doors black. In the main living space you see the front door, back door and two bedroom doors it is a small space so the black really pops and makes it feel more designed to me. Thanks for sharing and green is my fav color but I have used it forever and I am moving towards blues now so guess I will not be on trend yet again lol.
Me too! I really do not like the modular sofas, big splashy modern art nothing displayed like BOOKS and curated art and beautiful accents! Big white boxy houses made of cement and MILES of glass..looks like a Bank or an Ins office Lobby! I want a home! I just WAITED for this trend to wane..and thank goodness it has!
I’m with you on everything except for doing away with the dark floors, although they do show tracking more than lighter ones. Dark floors provide a better contrast to light walls.
Definitely with you on that. I do love the look of lighter wood flooring, but there’s just something about darker floors that’ll always feel cozier, moody, & timeless.
Amusing to note that design eventually comes back full circle if one waits long enough. Many of these trends I have, lol. Dated, but now back hooray! Love your channel.
@@flamingofan5411 that's why I put in my house what I love not what's on Trend because it comes and goes to keep people in the store spending their money
I have had dark floors, light floors, and even mahogany reddish toned floors. Dark espresso floors are my favorite no matter my current design. I feel like they ground the room and provide contrast, depth, and warmth. I have three shedding dogs (yellow, chocolate and black) and these floors do not show any more "dirt" than any of my others. I will stick to them.
Dark floors tho... if you don't have kids or pets that shed, always take shoes off at the front door.. and love cleaning every day..... then dark floors are Fantastic.
As a painter and decorator with 30yrs experience, I have to say I was so impressed, and really related to this video. Some great nuggets of advice to be found here from Kristen.
Enjoyed the video. I’m in the boomer generation. Its interesting that traditional decor is coming back. To me it was always about quality, comfort, lighting and doing what appeals to your aesthetic. I love mixing traditional with modern, like abstract art over a beautiful wood chest. Creamy white walls with an Oushak rug. Also its nice to have some open spaces and some more private.
We added a downstairs bedroom in 2008 and painted it a sage green, my husband’s idea! That room is the most soothing in the entire house! I feel so relaxed in our master suite, the color is so calming. I am really glad to hear that open floor plans are about to run their course. I much prefer to have designated rooms for designated purposes.
I love dark floors but I’ve always thought those blue gray mismatch floors were soooo ugly. I’m glad they’ll be on their way out lol. I’m glad the traditional style is coming back too. It feels so timeless and cozy imo. I love the closed off floor plan as well. I think I’ll always prefer an open kitchen and main living area bc it’s so nice for get togethers and stuff but everything else more divided would be nice.
Your tender-heart and warm smile brightens up this world ❤️ You are such a blessing to me! Thankful for starting this new year with you and your amazing videos 🥺
Yay!! All the things I love are finally on trend! Mid-tone wood floors, neutral colors (taupes, dark navy, sagey green), and architectural details like the picture frame molding!
Yesss! I put in oak parquet floors because oak is the one wood tone that I never ever tire of. It looks best paired with sage green walls or even muddy earth tones. Navy is good, as are classic black and white.
I Love how Kristen addressed all areas of the home - super helpful. In regard to the smart pet food dispenser which was cool: kibble causes diabetes in both cats and dogs. It also causes urinary diseases in cats. Maybe a little off topic, but I wish someone had told me this before it was too late.
One of the trends I would definitely use in my own home would have to be the more beige-y cabinets and I just painted my kid’s bathroom vanity the green color, looks great 👍
I love how traditional style has been making its statement over the past years. I made my apartment quite transitional, so it’s super nice for me to see how I can stay on trend almost all the time! :)
My mom renovated her apartment a few years ago. The light wood floors are the best option. I helped her pick a light oak with slight yellow undertones it goes with all types of furniture and doesn't show alot of dirt. Light wooden floors also makes the space open and airy feel.
I feel much better after watching this video. 50 years old and never really decorated or considered design styles or interior decorating. I feel in love with the gray/cream/soft beige colored look and decided that even though I liked the new recommended paints, I didn’t want to fully commit. I’m pretty sure I read that accent walls are “out” but I might just do one accent wall of color and the rest a soft cream. That way i can easily repaint one wall for a new look. It will be fun to pick out a few coordinating accent colors to make the green pop a bit.
Loving them! We’re already full into it. Sage green as well as moody dark greens and indigo paints. Separate rooms, vintage / traditional furniture mixed in, and and smart homing. I feel like the world is catching up to my personal style ❤️
I have been telling my clients this past year, that traditional, warm design is coming back in! I am so glad to have you confirm this for me. It is my personal choice for design and I'm so glad to see it trending again! - Laura
I’ve had lighter wood and it looks yellow over time! I’ll take my chances with darker floors! Love the look with everything else white which doesn’t look good with lighter wood imo 🤷🏻♀️🤗
I agree. I think darker wood floors anchor a light color palette of white/creamy white cabinetry and light-colored walls, otherwise the room looks too “white”.
Remodeled my home in 2020 and went with 7 1/2” white oak flooring. Our house is also older with beautiful wall panels, archways and pocket doors. Went with Simply White on the doors and drift of mist on the paneled walls throughout the entire house. Glad to see I made the right choices from your video and hearing what’s coming in trend for 2022. I get compliments on my flooring all the time and yes, they are easy to clean and just make the room light and airy.
Not only was this super helpful but it was so relaxing as well!! Loved how it informed me but also didn't stress my mind! I could've listened all day truth be told lol. Thank you!❤️️
Trends that refresh the look from old to recycled. working from home Don’t forget to redesign your decor. furniture can wear a statement . Thanks for the trending paint options.
I love that traditional style is coming back. I don’t think it actually ever goes out of style but glad it’ll be more on trend now. I love the light sandy colored wood floors and since I have a very neutral home I will definitely be integrating that sage color in my pillows and as an accent color. Thank you for your video!
I think you are on point with all of your design trends advice. Thank you so much for the great video! The only one I would push back a little on, not because it’s not on trend, but because I think it’s risky, is the floors. I totally agree that dark, dark floors are out, however, the sand colored floors that you are recommending could potentially be risky. They are on trend now(and beautiful!), but they will not always be. As someone who just refinished and added more hardwood to our entire house, I can say with 100% certainly, I will never do that again. It was such an ordeal. I struggled with the color so much, and I LOVE(!!!) the light, sandy colored floors that are on trend. However, I know that look will go out as fast as it came in, so I opted to choose a historic color. Although it’s darker than I wanted, I am hoping in the long run, it will always be relevant and never look dated.🤞🏽 Floors are such a huge project and investment, so they are kind of a one and done project, so you’ve got to go timeless. Just my two cents. 😄
I have the same opinion, I feel the ultra light are going to leave as fast as they came. Dark floors are classic, I think a safe color is a midpoint that's slightly darker than it is light.
Ladies thanks for the input . I’m about to be remodeling my Home and thought about dark wood floors with white walls but was disappointed when she said they were not in, not sure what to do now. Not a big fan of those light color floors 😫
@@nellymatias143 get some samples! You can look at them in your home and see what you're really drawn towards, and what you love in your space. Lighting is so important, if your home is better or darker, certain colors and tones will be better vs worse! Trust your gut, and pick what YOU love 🤗
I painted my living area sage green 12 years ago and I still love it today. It is a beautiful "neutral" color that goes with all kinds of colors like artwork. It feels like bringing the outside in.... Love your chanel!
I think it’s funny how trends really go round and round in circles. I personally never cared for the super open floor plan. Glad the more closed off spaces are coming back.
Same. And she brought up a good point about people spending more time at home - makes me wonder how all those "we need an open floor plan because we love to host" people are coping with that now.
I’ve gutted my house and am in the process of a rebuild and have incorporated all these “trends” and I’m very happy I chose 2022 to do it cause I’m on board with all of it, right up my street. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Our complete renovation and addition begins in March. I’m with you! Everything I love is on trend. What color are you doing your exterior? Struggling to commit.
Kristen, I appreciate all these tips! We have several rooms in our home that have a soothing green color, which we love. I am glad to hear that some traditional styles are coming back I personally love a clean and more modern version of traditional design. HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉
Great video. I'm a fan of wall moulding. I'm planning to add it to my front and back entrances along with accenting walls in my living room, dining room, and owner's bedroom. We have creamy white kitchen cabinets with taupe, brown, and cream granite countertops. Our plan is to add a dark brown, matte backsplash and paint the backside of the kitchen island a similar deep brown. We moved into a builder-grade townhome last year, so I want to personalize our space. Great suggestions. I enjoy watching your videos.
I love this post and have watched it several times. I find it really useful to see so many different examples in all the different images you included. Please do more posts like this. Thank you.
I love seeing new design trends and your presentation made them come to life. I don’t care for rounded architectural furniture (reminds me of 70s/80s) but everything else is in my wheelhouse. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this video. We bought our first home lat spring and I'm still slowly transforming our house into a home. These are great tips and Green is my favorite color. Love it.
I was going to do dark flooring throughout with muted and lighter walls this year. Dark flooring feels like a a blank canvas for my idea around me, creating that moody elegant vibe.
Happy new year Kristen to you and your family I have already gave your video a thumb up before watching it because I know it's gonna be amazing and useful.
Woo for traditional! I never left it lol. Planning our new build at the moment and it has lots of picture frame moulding, far more detailed all over than the houses I see others build. I’ve never liked open pan so I’ve done a semi closed plan using walls as barriers, our dining space is open to the kitchen one of the living rooms but will have pocket glass French doors so it can feel closed off or open. Here in Australia a butlers kitchen is the go to for most houses now (a second kitchen to the back or side of main kitchen), but I’m having a bigger main kitchen than is on trend here and a smaller butlers
Happy New Year!!I am so thrilled with these on trends for 2022-love the creamy tones with the bold greens and blues-natural wood has always been my favorite-these tips are sooo helpful-thank you-sorry but I am just glad it's not all farmhouse I know a lot of people like it but I'm glad it's not white on white on white
I just built a NEW home. My taste is the White Kitchen Cabinets & we put in Dark Espresso Brown floors. It's such...a BEAUTIFUL contrast!!! We built what we like, not...what's on trend. Trends change yearly. 😁😀😊🥰
I love a Scandi-chic style and a lot of this can be incorporated into that - but not the sage green (or any shade of green) for me ever! I've never embraced the full open-plan style but I'm never going back to having a separate dining room - such a faff !
This video cracks me up because I love everything that is going out of style 🤣 But oh well, I will embrace small changes and wait for gray everything and open concept to come back around.
Still love my dark floors, I think they’re timeless… A few months ago we redid our laundry room and I chose a dark green, it looks fabulous and now trendy also lol
We've included light floors, arched mirrors, a green accent wall, smart home stuff, dark moody colors in our kitchen (black with green undertone). We actually chose the green colors last year so I love that it's trending now!
Silver Sage was the signature color for Restoration Hardware for many years; I don't know if it still is or not, but it was 18 years ago when I painted most of my downstairs Silver Sage. :-) I love it so much. It is remarkably neutral, and it takes on different hues based on the ambient light.
Love these type of videos and you are so informative and take your time to really give good insights on the different trends. I am more of a traditional style with a touch here and there of some modern and love seeing your videos when you decorate room by room with these different styles 🤗. Just love your channel and look forward to see more like these. Thanks so much!❤️
All the “designers” on RU-vid NEVER mention how difficult to impossible it is to incorporate trends with the COVID supply issue and sky rocket prices and lack of availability of wood / trim etc
Agree with most of these! Don't think traditional is coming back nor is closed off space. I still get clients every day asking me for an open floorplan. lol
