I love that all these runs are either powerful and dominate like Beastquake and John Riggins run to glory, or elegant and smooth like Barry and Marcus Allen. Then you’ve got Steve young clearly just running for his life.

Except it's NFL Network, but I get your point. My issue is that these people are all fans: I'm a fan, so I KNOW the fan perspective. We've all been watching football for a limited amount of time. I want to know the perspective of the people that have covered the game for a long time and have seen multiple generations of football to provide - God forbid - actual analysis, and not just "he's a beast," etc. etc.

@jkrolak7978 4 года назад
@Amaji RainesIt's a good run. But far from the best even on this list. #10 is better, So is Walter Payton's and Earl Campbell's, and Lynch's, and the scramble. It's only merits top 10 ten mention only as it was a record at the time and in the super bowl. Otherwise, it was pretty generic. That would put it at best #6.
@jkrolak7978
@jkrolak7978 4 года назад
@Amaji Raines No just being a since eclipsed record / big game doesn't make it #1 by any criteria. But you're entitled to your opinion even if most wont agree with you nor even remember the run unlike most of the others.

Lynch’s beastquake run was the beginning of the new Seattle Era, it is the starting point of the great 2012-2014 run we had. It literally breathed life into Seattle, it’s was roughly 3 years since our Sonics left, the Mariners where still a sorry team and the Sounders still where not as popular as it would grow to be today. This breathed life and rejuvenated a nearly dead sports culture in Seattle, which has now continued to thrive on to this very day. Whether Lynch’s number gets into the Hall of Fame or not, his contributions to our franchise WILL retire his number.

I really appreciate Marshawn Lynch keeping it real about the Tracy Porter stiff arm. A lot of football fans think that a specific player is really dominant when something like that happens, but in reality it's the momentum of them both running, and Lynch pushing Tracy the direction they were already going to help himself stop. That's not to say that Lynch isn't extremely strong, or that any RB could have done the same thing, but Lynch couldn't have thrown another man like that standing still, and he clarifies that. Props to him for not pretending he's superhuman or something. Same thing with the Ramsey hit on Golden Tate. Good hit for sure, but aided quite a bit by Tate being literally airborne when the collision happened.

His explosive speed out of the hole is noticeably on another level next to the all time heros of the game. Throw in his jukes and low center of gravity which magically kept him on his feet, defying the created order, sovereignly determined by God. You got yourself the manifestation of the hero archetype in the flesh. Once I saw a clip of him turn into an apparition and go straight through a defender. The guy was stricken, then paused, looked left, then right, kind of vibrated above the neck and fell over dead. Coaches of the teams scheduled to play against him would attempt to train their defense how to not blink for 4 hrs a day, to boost their tackling attempts a few percentage points against Sir Barry. The man was a phantom, and the prince of the end zone. But you should hear me, I haven't even begun to get started about this man.

"Best run" is about knocking people over, breaking tackles, amazing moves, and spirit/tenacity. These are all great running backs (and a quarterback) in this video, but too many of these were just hitting a hole, maybe breaking one tackle, and running in a memorable or important game...those don't count. Yes, great runs by great running backs, but no way top 10 in history.

@@Jr.barkeep i don't think he was talking about Lynch's run. But many on this list weren't even that good. Tony Dorsett's run, for example, was relatively easy aside from the stiff arm. The only reason it's on here, is because its 99 yards. Garrison Hearst's 96 yard run against the Jets was way better, but didn't even get an honorable mention. Hearst was hit right after the line, stiff armed, and dragged a tackler into the endzone. Should be top 5, if you ask me.

It's called good blocking and a well designed play. He showed some speed, cool. I see a couple run games every game that impress me more. Allen probably had 20 runs that were more impressive to watch. Literally nothing about the run stands out, and probably 200 RB's in league history could have made that same run with that kind of blocking and play design. Very little individual effort involved other than a decent amount of speed showed.

@jamessgian7691
@jamessgian7691 4 года назад
Oh, we love the Beasts like Lynch and Alstott, Campbell and Bettis who break tackles and punish the defense. It is the clashing, pounding, impact moments of gladiatorial sport. I get it. I love it too. Allen’s run isn’t the grind of the gridiron. It’s the grace of glory. He didn’t break tackles because nobody could touch him. Lynch’s play was power. Just run everyone over, and he had his whole team running everyone over with him. But Allen’s run was all his talent, his vision, his ability to turn what would have been a loss of yards into the longest TD run in Superbowl history. It is poetry like Shakespeare instead of bada%# beatdown of Tupac. Love ‘em both, and so hard to choose, but longest run in Super Bowl history makes it the right choice for number 1. Now, we need to talk Eric Dickerson. It is unforgivable how much he is dissed and dismissed in lists like this. He was faster and even more graceful than Allen. He knocked guys on their butts as well. But he hit the line so fast so many times that the defensive line looked like they were still getting up from their three point stances when he passed them already. Take either of his TD runs in his 248 yard playoff game against the Cowboys. Take the run against the Jets where everyone kept leaping at him all the way down the field to only touch his jersey or shoes as he soared, yes soared, passed. I have to say my favorite runners to watch were Earl Campbell, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Eric Dickerson. Campbell was the monster. Payton the never run out of bounds if I can run you over all around back and team player. Barry was the magicIan of escape and left more defender’s socks on the field than Santa stuffs each year. But the purest runner was Dickerson. Give Dickerson the line that Emmitt Smith ran behind and he’d have had 30,000 yards in his career and five 2,500 yard seasons. He is the single greatest talented running back ever. Find him a place on this list.
