@@Walamonga1313 I think Chris Poland doesn't get enough credit. Marty came in and kinda over shadowed him since the band was gaining popularity at that time.
@@brpadington Yesh I know. My fav albums are the first 2 cause they had that odd jazz vibe + crazy thrash. Chris and Gar were monster players that don't get much recognition. Still love Marty's playing but Chris' solos in Good Mourning, Bad Omen or the 1987 version of These Boots are just perfect for my taste.
@@nissanchhetri2989 watch Ben Ellers video for that mate. Its the way you pick it, it's easy when you pick it right. I struggled thinking it was alternate picked
-Carry On, Angra -Countdown To Extinction, Megadeth -Mother Gaia, Stratovarius -Cemetery Gates, Pantera -The 4 Horsemen, Metallica -For The Love Of God, Steve Vai -Tears Of The Dragon, Bruce Dickinson Some of my favorites
Mostly for my future reference: 1. Galneryus - Silent Revelation 2. Dream Theater - Another day 3. Cacophony - The Ninja 4. Opeth - The Lotus Eater 5. Arch Enemy - Skeleton Dance 6. Avenged Sevenfold - Roman Sky 7. Megadeth - A Tout Le Monde 8. To-Mera - Traces 9. In Flames - Only for the Weak 10. Ghost - Ritual
@@gregdjentyguy9986 the Rev got me into them and Syn has kept me a fan ever since. He’s one of the best living guitarists. His work on the stage is absolutely incredible.
Under A Glass Moon is like a lead guitar stunts master class. Check out Ralph Salati fucking KILL it playing a JPM100 Ibanez with an old Axe FX Ultra doing all the heavy lifting. As good as the original.
Damn, those are 2 of my absolute favorites right there..... I believe Fredrick Johansson from Dark Tranquility actually played the solo on December Flower. Definitely one of my all time favorites
Amazing list thanks! Here is my list: 1. Dream Theater - Best of times (6 minutes of pure joy) 2. Anathema - Anathema 3. David Gilmore - In Any Tongue 4. Tool - Descending 5. Steve Wilson - Refuge 6. Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb 7. Toto - I Won't Hold You Back 8. Perfect Circle - By And Down The River 9. Metallica - Master Of Puppets 10. Accept - Amamos La Vida
Omg I’ve never met anyone else who even knew about I won’t hold you back - let alone rated it that highly. It’s an amazing guitar solo. The second half where the strings come in is just incredible.
Fran yeah forgot that one but its a definitely a favorite, also in their first album with Phil power metal, “we’ll meet again” is amazing as well, and thanks in a big fan men those dime is the reason I still play guitar and vinnie phil and rex are straight up legends as well
Chuck Schuldiner’s solos are missing in here. He brought both of best worlds like no other. A lot of technicality, speed, but also a lot of emotions and soul. Listening to Voice of the soul bring me tears, good luck finding that in other death metal bands
Oh man, 100%. I would recommend the solo to Ancestral too. I swear on my life the first time I heard it rose the hairs on my neck, it's that goddamn good.
These are all such amazing picks! One of my favorites might not even count as a solo, but the slow dual guitar part about six minutes into Harlequin Forest by Opeth just takes me on such a journey every single time.
Great list, fantastic solos. I would also add The Best of Times (Dream Theater) and Altitudes (Jason Becker), both with an insane amount of melodic and technical stuffs.
Dethklok - murmaider (sorta melodic) Leprous - White Leprous - Forced Entry Dream Theater - Under a Glass Moon Dream Theater- Best of Times Dream Theater- Spirit Carries On Dream Theater- Trial of Tears You could do a top ten DT melodic solos lol
I think the best solos are the ones that blend so seamlessly into the track that you don't even necessarily realise you're listening to a solo, but just get swept up in the wholr experience. For that reason, my favourite solo is in The Fall of Consciousness by Psychonaut. Plus the way they transition back into the main theme is brilliant.
Awesome album for sure. One of the first death metal albums I listened to (as in death metal as a whole, Arch Enemy is of course melodeath) and it blew me away. Punchy drums and mix, and crazy stuff going on with guitars with an ultra-aggressive tone to boot. Personally I've been a drummer for 15+ years but only recently started getting into guitar. So it's cool to actually understand now why I liked a load of guitar work on Doomsday Machine when I first heard it all those years ago - they use a number of interesting scales/modes that give it a really exotic flavour, especially in the solos, e.g. Hybrids of Steel. And My Apocalypse was probably the closest thing to djent I heard before discovering Meshuggah!
Yeah it is. I think its because it was such a change of pace for A7X but i enjoyed it quite a bit i prefer there older stuff with the rev. But stage was good and a nice change.
Why not both?!?! My favorite melodic metal solos would have to include Whispers or Shades of Grey by Symphony X (super under-rated MJR solos), Ministry of Lost Souls (Outro solo) or A New Beginning (TA? I know, but this song is a banger) by Dream Theater, The Dream Sequencer by Ayreon (Arjens best guitar work ever imho), outro to November Rain is a classic (but is it metal???). that's all i can think of at the moment. Cheers!
Great choices, one and all. I especially appreciate the inclusion of Cacophony (I'm a big fan of Jason and Marty). One of my favorite melodic guitar solos is the 6:00 to 7:00 minute stretch of Joe Stump's "The End Approaches". Heck, the whole song is melodic and includes some of the most technical solos you're likely to hear. In fact, the solos in the outro rival most anything out there.
The Ninja was great! Cacophony doesnt get 1/10th the recognition they deserve. Its impressive that, even while they had two of the best guitarists out there, they also had some of the most melodic solos as well (not to mention Jason Becker and Marty Friedman’s solo stuff)
My favorite melodic solo: PANTERA - The Sleep ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j-4w0NwqHZE.html CARCASS - Death certificate ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_8sLxqq0_GM.html
Oh my god. I thought you'd pick an older avenged sevenfold song.. Roman Sky is my favorite song because of the emotion.. I actually love this channel now just because of this. Thank you for recognizing a beautiful song.
Candlemass has the best of both worlds when it comes to guitar solos, both technical and extremely melodic. Lars johansson is a great guitarist but criminally underrated.
HOLY SHIT! I was not expecting to see the ninja here. It never fails to give me goosebumps. That's legit one of my favorite songs of all time. Probably top 3. It's great that you make different lists instead of what everyone does.
A lot of famous Japanese guitarist are great at writing melodic solos combined with crazy shredding parts. I mean Syu from galenryus is legit the reason why I want to play guitar at the first place. His solos are just too amazing
New guitar! Noice! One that always gets me is the lead break from Screaming Ghost by Hibria. Not sure if it qualifies as being melodic, but the phrasing is brilliant.
Would love to see another one of these videos. Some of my favorite melodic solos are by Nick Johnston, he's an absolute beast with conveying emotion. Such incredible talent out there.
Great to see a Cacophony solo - I applaud you for that one. Great choice of DT solo too. On a personal level I’d have added Return to Serenity by Alex Skolnick, and something by Criss Oliva - maybe Summer’s Rain or Ghost In The Ruins maybe?!
You should definitely check out the Solo of the Demo Version of A Tout Le Monde - it's so much more emotional, much longer and incredibly underrated. The song quality is complete dog but I would pick it over the version that made it onto the final recording any day.
