Once India starts to make domestic parts, it will be the beginning of disaster, and the failure rate will rise rapidly. @@unudo3359 The domestic defence industry in India is at a nascent stage forcing HAL to import many components, however that doesn't imply poor quality if the domestic industry starts producing it. Indian defence companies are 15-20 yrs behind global counterparts in cutting edge technology and innovation but not quality and reliability. High costs of doing business in india due to poor infra, cost of capital and red tape is slowly changing and expect this factor to abate by the next decade. Too naive to write off industry as cheap quality.

Let me get this straight, a copy of Russian helicopter made the list but not Russian made helicopter? Fyi, the Russian Mil Mi-26 is able to carry a small airliner with ease which none of these helicopters can do.

Upgrade the avionics on Mi-17 and it's superior to everything bar big bois like chinook or King Stallion. Cheap to purchase & fly, Reliable, Incredible capacity, ramp in the back, everything. Absolute workhorse.

China and Russia are developing a type of heavy transport helicopter with the same performance as ch47, and will get a large order from China, but it has not been completed at present. Russian helicopter exports have been difficult. So it's good for both countries.

Actually they don't have good utility helicopters these days. Utility helicopters do a lot of roles. But they could have included the Mi-8 at the 10th place, even though its old its still being used by so many countries. But the biggest mistake they did was excluding Bell 212. That is the ultimate utility helicopter ever made. So many countries still operate them, and it has fulfilled so many roles over the years.

@@hasupe6520 mi-8 can work in very icy condition, stay on open sky in regions like Alaska or Dubai and then statup and fly, no hangar needed, have immune of unpredicted IFR since 1960(4 axis autopilot enabled full flight), like pilots accidentally fly inside cloud on VFR flight they did not overflip heli, can lift cargo, can carry vehicle inside, can land and takeoff on very high alt and can be repaired person who have car repair skills. If that's not a utility heli, what is utility heli?
