Unforgiven 3 in general is so good, the buildup to that insane solo makes it one of my favourite Metallica songs for sure, even if it is a bit messily played :p
0:00 Chasing Light 0:48 Halo on Fire (1st solo) 1:04 All Nightmare Long (1st solo) 1:58 You Must Burn! 3:07 Spit out the Bone 3:45 The Day That Never Comes 4:24 Room of Mirrors 5:44 72 Seasons (2nd solo) 6:48 Inamorata (outer solo) 7:38 The Unforgiven III
Bro, I think the same that The Unforgiven III deserves first place... This one just fills me with emotion every time I feel sad and it's the moment where I burst into tears 😞
InamoraTa is the solo In history metal after fade to black that gave me the most chills. Especially while observing the music video. Kirk used the wah literally perfectly. I’ve never seen the wah been used so perfectly except entersandman. Fade to black solo is unbeatable, but I’ve never thought that any other song In history would come close , and how surprising , it came from Metallica and same artist kirk. There are solos I listen to from puppets and others, that make me realize how every little detail that people don’t notice is complete genius ness. ( AFTER ) the starting lick of disposable heroes ( what I call the nothing else matters bend 😂 ) has a unique starting and the note choice is so weird. He could have played so many basic thing but he chose to play something like that which is special
The problem with Kirk's modern solo approach is that he plays in key but not around the chords, his solos are not connected with the harmony underneath and that's why they're not memorable. They fill out the space but don't elevate the composition. Another thing is his over reliance on pentatonic, he's eliminating the 2 notes that are unique to each minor mode, those notes give that extra spice (dorian on blackened or phrygian dominant on wherever i may roam)
True, another problem I've noticed is how he repeats a lot of the same licks for different solos, which makes them feel samey. It's specially bad on Hardwired lol
That's a great list. I'd say the Inamorata solo is the best on the list, followed by Spit and Nightmare. Some other great modern Kirk solos include Hardwired, Lux, and Moth
Even if some people do say his solos have gone down in quality over the years a lot of them are still really fucking good, like Unforgiven 3 is still one of his absolute best and a lot of his stuff on Hardwired and 72 Seasons kicked ass as well so I definitely agree with this list
Even isnt best guitar, Kirk got a epic moments in his Guitar specially in the modern albums :) My top riffs of Kirk: - Inamorata - You Must Burn (Very Black Sabbath and Mercyful Fate style) - Spit Out The Bone - 72 Seasons - All Nightmare Long (Full Speed Mr. Kammett) - The Day That Never Comes (Kirk made a excelent solo)} - The Unforgiven 3
The Unforgiven III is still my favorite track of Metallica ever, and it has what i consider Kirk's best solo of the modern era. Really love this song... but i do gotta say... Spit Out The Bone sticks like a sore thumb in this list, imo... as well as Inamorata outro solo.
HtsD and 72Seasons has some excellent solos. Spit outhe Bone solo and both solos from Inamoratta are absolute masterpieces. In the other hand If Darkness have a son solo is a big, stinky, toxic pile of radioactive pig shit.
I had a lot of videos to make. However, school messed up my time, so I dont have time to listen to new stuff to rank at all. These metallica videos are easier to do because I already know their songs
Dream no more has to be on this top 10, i don’t think that almost any solo from 72 seasons deserves to be in this list i would mostly use solos from death magnetic some of hardwired and maybe 1 or 2 from 72 seasons
10 not cool 9 not cool 8 non bad 7 nothing cool 6 That COOL realy cool 5 Cool 4 The same thing nothing special except harmony, and that belongs to James 3 Not bad normal 2 Not bad 1 good
its ok that kirk loves his wah, but seriously in every song. over and over the same licks. to me it would be emberassing. his last good work is unforgiven 3 and tdtnc on dm. he put some energy in it and someone told him to compose
