I love the doctor is calling on Risk, which is a good album even if it has a few fillers. If the world needs a hero had the song kill the king on it more people would dig it. I like the title track, disconnect and dread a lot.

Whoever brought the riffs in the first place doesn't really matter.. what matters is what the band do together as a final result. In the writing process everything is polished and shaped in so different ways than the first suggested riff ideas... I'm writing stuff since 15 years and I know that for sure. Metallica is playing since 40+ years.. you know what I mean. To create consistent music it's sometimes better to be a "one man band" but with other guys around. In a 4 member crew like Metallica are, every guy has a different brain. If you "delegate" too much your final products might (and will) be inconsistent. Metallica would not have their tremendous success without James's writing. Yes of course there are other great compositors in their history, but James just is the best one of them.

My favourite is the Damage Inc riff. I was surprised when I first found out the Creeping Death riff used in the verses was not Kirk's because, for some reason I got it into my head that was his riff when I was reading the writing credits when I first got the Ride The Lightning album.

I kind of makes me sad some of those songs never played or some of the better ones on those albums! Can't believe they've never played murder one
