I did your mods on my first Z. It lasted 2 years. The first thing I did to my new Z was a 100k service, bushing replacements, coilovers, Steering rack rebuild 😂
Awesome vid mate, Your 300ZX presents well! Just bought mine 3 weeks ago and am immediately in love! VG30DE(TT) engines both twin turbo and N/A have forged crankshaft and connecting rods from factory, so only pistons need to be upgraded to forged units. It is one of my favorite things about this engine!
Great video, I'm literally about to get a neglected 1993 300zx. At first I was exited, but after several videos I'm a bit weary. I'm going to go for it, hopefully it doesn't become an endless money pit.
@@Phantom_garage93 well as for rust I've yet to check for it. I know it tends to rust near the tail lights in the trunk. But man the interior is thrashed, the previous owner parked it in his car port so it had shade, but was open to the elements. Apparently he said it was used for storage so much so that and I quote, " the trunk was open for some time". This resulting in it's interior being littered with rodent droppings, the leather is disintegrated, seats chewed. I figure what the hell I'll tear it all out and put in new, no worries there. This car is bone stock so it has the original ignition control unit, the original suspension stiffener not sure what its called. But to me the thing I'm most worried about is the he said it was parked back in 2005 because coolant was in the oil and he suspected blowed head gasket possible head warping. But I've been determined to have a z series and figure it is a great project car for the weekends.
Wow. Well. I wish you luck with that buddy. Even though you might put money into it... These cars get you attached so much on a high level. Love these cars and always will 😬
Endless money pit😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣I just put $4000 into mine, and im just getting started, I estimate I will be spending upwards of 15,000-20,000 more, I've had my baby since 98 im second owner and if I told you guys what I initially paid for it in prestine condition back then many grown men would cry lol
Nice vid mate. I'm looking to get the internals of my turbos refurbished and maybe get the internals upgraded. Do you recommend anyone for the job? Thanks
Omar Sandoval the rods and crank are forged by stock yes... however the issue I had is that my crank failed on my previous engine... so if I was to forge my engine I would get all new internals... forged pistons, rods, crank and get the engine bored out dependant on the size of the pistons. Engine machined and everything... What's your view on Super HICAS? It was used not only for a parking aid but also for handling... as time goes on things wear out so it was better to get rid of my HICAS as it was causing me some real issues handling. I went the step further and installed the N/A rear diff as that doesn't have HICAS. Made the acceleration insane and no HICAS. Winner
Yeah hicas was designed for high speed swerve/lane change control. Pretty sure it's only active over 50mph or so. Basically it momentarily adds over steer into the turn and under steer out of it (or the other way round). If it's maintained its actually very effective. The main reason there are so many hicas deletes on the market is due to z's being adopted by the drift scene and obviously drifting is all about losing traction not gaining it.
In high speed scenarios having a mechanism that changes steering angle in the rear is also a liability so that's another reason most take it off. That and avoising maintenance on the system
While the NA rear diff is great for acceleration, it's terrible if you must drive your car at highway speeds very often. 60 mph is at about 2500 rpm in 5th gear, which can get very annoying for anything over short distances and really hurts your MPG. If this is your weekend car, it's great. If it's your daily driver/commute car, not so much.
very good input there buddy, i know what your saying with that. Personally it doesnt bother me and I dont do much motorway driving, only from show to show
I need a Z32 in my life so fucking bad! I'm thinking a lot about getting one very soon, within a year, but Goddamnit, I just want it now! It's definitely my dream car, I find it funny how I fell in love with it, just on a random day, with literally no reason, just been looking around one day, and I've seen it.. I just seen it, the prettiest and best looking 2+0 ever, black, and I've spent over an hour just talking with the owner and looking at the car. He even let me sit in it, and I've been completely in love, that was the day I decided... "I need one". I've sat in Supra, Skyline and NSX, and 300ZX just has that something, it just speaks to me like my ultimate dream car, the Honda NSX NA1. I'm trying to sort my shit out currently, I'm trying to minimise money spending on shit now, so I can focus on getting Z32, the longer I wait, and the longer I look at them, the will is bigger. Now I'm watching you, just because I wanna see more Z32 😂 I'm obsessed with this car, and I'm not even feeling bad! I hope I can come back to this video in a year or so and say "yes, I got the car!", Just like it happened with my beloved Honda CR-Z (current car, it's brilliant
I think injectors would be a upgrade before the tune 555cc ones and prolly fuel pump upgrade to run e85 or premium fuel only or if you want a quick performance gain on n/a a 50 or 75 shot are handled vary well from what I've found on forums
@@bretull4826 it can last just as long as a stock engine if the tuner has a understanding of how to dial in torque for long term reliability, torque is what kills, there’s a reason nitrous is so dangerous
Saw you in Coventry. My dad had the blue 300zx with the voting number 1 LWB. I was curious to know, what did you do to your car to sound like that because I liked to sound of it and I wouldn’t mind to make my car when I get one to sound like it. Is it something that only Zs can do or can it be done to any or a vary of cars?
Hennessey Tango hey there. I have pictures of all the cars so I would have seen you. The exhaust system I wanted it to sound like a GTR. So the way to do it was de cat. Then an X pipe no silences straight out. Because these are a v6 and so is the gtr but not the same engine
Yeah I thought it sounded like a GTR when I heard it go up the hill to find the entrance of the transport museum. Yeah a GTR has 3.5L V6 last time I looked. Thank you I just wanted to know.
What's the reason for this? I changed my injectors because they were out of the resistance range, I changed them with 1 year old stock tt injectors and I never have any issues :)
OK list, but regarding wheels, only switch out stock if you can afford lighter wheels- the stock 300ZX wheels are already very light at 16.8 lbs, and you will need to spend at least $250-300 a wheel to get a lighter wheel than stock. I made the mistake of buying cool looking but heavy wheels, and noticed the difference immediately, with sluggish acceleration- read up on the effect of wheel weight before you pop for new ones.
Understood buddy. Another reason for changing the wheels would be wider track. wider tyre means more grip if you ain't running budget tyres of course haha
Hi phantom I just saw this video this is my dream car I'm starting off low and going to work my way up to the 300zx but I got a golf tdi I don't know how to sell it for cause I want to sell it and save up for the 300zx but what do you suggest to sell my car for
Gael Carrera hello there matey. It all depends on different aspects of the car... Year Mileage Features Modifications (not always good for value) Condition Have a look on sites such as ebay and AutoTrader to see what other people are selling theirs for.
These mods are for rich d-bags imho. The car was designed by real engineers who know what they're doing vs. some teenage dorks. It's perfect. Leave it alone.
Hey I own a 90 slash 89 300z na 5 speed people who drove it thinks it's quick well it's heavy what do you recommend as a low end torque upgrade has 189000 on body 90 on motor
Hi there matey. For low end torque I would recommend a good air filter system, his, blitz etc. That will allow the airflow to be a bit more free. This won't affect bhp. But should help torque. Also... a remap will increase both torque and bhp but as it is an na, the gains won't be as much as a turbo car. A major thing on these cars is yes the weight. However stripping the car would be a big help but if you still want comfort etc then this is out of the question
Justin C oh yeah true that but aye the all are z’s🤷🏿♂️😂 I have a question why does my car slides all the time tires are good but this guy told me whoever made these car opened the wheel base cause my car slides all the time
This is one of the reasons nice TT are going up in value. Bone heads like this guy are chopping up the cars and cutting into the wiring harnesses. Keep up the good work mate! I'm sure this guy knows a lot more about all this than the Nissan engineers. This should be a video about how to crater the value of your car.
you the bonehead. almost every car could use some improvements from the factory either due to oversights from the engineers or budget restraints. and the 300zx is definitely one of those cars
These cars are old, the computer doesn't compensate for the greater amount of airflow as well as a newer car would. Also, the differential ratio for NA is 4.08. I wouldn't say that's an upgrade, more of a swap. It's personal preference on the diffs, you want top speed, stick with the TT differential. You want acceleration, then swap for NA diff. Andd hicas has nothing to do with your diff. Hicas is just a steering rack in the rear. Remove hicas if you plan on making any numbers over 400hp. Front mount intercooler isn't as efficient as sidemount due to the fact its a banked setup from factory so both turbos can have their own intercooler. But I'd do either one. Tho you're right, side mount is easier. Unless you're making like 1000whp, you don't necessarily NEED to rebuild and forge the internals. The VG30de and dett are both capable of 500hp reliably on stock internals. Hell, I've seen 800hp crank on an unopened na block. Everything else, I agree with. There doesn't really need to be any sort of order for buying parts tho. But definitely don't go out and buy any breather mods unless you have a tune ready ecu to actually take advantage of them.
The reason I mentioned the breathing and exhaust mods first is you wouldn't do them after a map, you would do them before. Some good info there buddy, thanks for that however I was under the impression that the N.a. diff is not compatible with the hicas system
Phantom Z ah true okay and no the hicas system is literally just a rear mounted steering rack that allows the rear wheels to turn about a degree in each direction. You can get a hicas eliminator bar and kit which is easy to do. The differential plays no role other than to allow each wheel to spin at different revolutions and depending on gear ratios, affects acceleration and overall top speed. However, if you’re swapping to an NA diff, there is a lot of work to go along with that anyways due to the fact it’s got different bolt patterns and it’s smaller than the TT diff so might as well delete hicas anywaat that point.
