In the latest vlog I share 5 facts that most people don't know about the 300ZX Z32. Topics include Toshio Yamashita the designer of the Z, Bonneville Salt Flats record, highest price a Z32 sold for, oil starvation and VG engine history.
@@hybridAbsol Japanese are exactly who you want when it comes to electronics. American and european cars have electronic stuff fail way more in my experience. I have a theory it's why as time has gone on and cars become more and more electronic, Japanese car manufacturers reliability ratings have skyrocketed and American and European cars have plummeted.
Even after I caught a fire hydrant and rip the rear end off my car while it was in my garage I would sit in it took me about 9 months to fix it it was a 300 ZX turbo T-top 5 speed 1985
Yeah I already knew all of this and I don’t consider myself a crazy enthusiast of this car. I’m on my second Z32. It would be interesting to see a video about rare Z32 parts and items
Had an ex mechanic colleague at work tell me when they came out how advanced they were they would plug in the laptop for diagnostics and how this tech was mind blowing for them at that time and it still is compared to most cars. I had one but I didn't know much about it, my 6th cylinder blew up short while after I installed a boost controller, I remember reading prior to that that the 6th cylinder is usually the first one to go because of the design of the engine and how it can get too hot or something like that but idk how much of that is true.
I think the most important fact for every owner to know is the throttle can get stuck open while you're driving so you're just driving one day and the car starts speeding up on it's own, yeah it's a scary experience I tell you that. If you look at the engine there is a small horizontal pipe just above the cam cover near the throttle body springs, it can slide out against that throttle spring and pin it, I eventually tied some zip ties around mine. Worth a look!
ummm about the oil pan my friend is that you are incorrect about the oil not being there under hard course driving. If you knew where the oil pick up tube was located you would have to basically be totally about of oil in order for the tube to not pick up off the floor of the pan. As a matter of fact if you dent the bottom of the pan you will then starve the VG motor of its due oil. I cant count how many of my 300zx clients of come to me with blown motors because there oil pans were dented to the fact that the pick up tube could not pick up oil. So yeah again the 300zx pan would have to be totally gone of oil in order not to pick it up and throw it throughout the engine.
As the only commenter on here I would have to say the you forgot the coolest fact. The Lamborghini Diablo shares the headlights from the car under license from Nissan.
That is a more known fact, it is a good one! Also the Cray (CAD) first ever production car and SMZ were considerations when making the video. Thanks for watching!
Z31 model up to 1989 had a different engine to the Z32, which had a VG30DET if it was the twin turbo version. The engine in the Z32 was designs just for that car. Same for the CA18ET in the S13 200SX.
I used to have one. Beautiful car to drive. Did you know the stock alloy wheels are directional? They are designed to pull air into the wheels to help cool the brakes. Lots of people used to not realise this and have the wheels on incorrectly 😂

Z32 was the first Z with intercoolers which allowed the 3.0 to gain 100hp over the 200hp Z31 turbo. Z32 won 1994 La Mons. Z32 and Toyota MR2 is modeled after a 1989 FERRARI 348. The 240Z has Ferrari style headlights and is modeled after a 1968 Ferrari 275. The Zs top speed record of 260mph was done with a June custom final gear to increase top speed. Stock transmission redlines around 163mph. You have to be a mechanic to own a Z32 and keep it running. This is not a car for amature car enthusiest who can't afford $1,200 for tires every 12,000 miles. It takes a lot of time and money keeping these cars running. And the Z32 factory seats are Recaro seats, and they are light. Seats in my Honda Prelude are heavier. Nissan North America sold a 300ZX SMZ with 360hp with a factory warrant and Stillen ECU tune, and it made 400hp with intake and exhaust bolted on under warranty. Then there was the 500hp SMZ Nissan sold with 550cc injectors and sport 500 turbos under warranty. Stillen said they produced some 500hp SMZ cars, but not many. I think it was a custom order thing. SMZ cars were limited and numbered.
I've had a 85 300ZX Nissan Turbo and a 2006 350Z both absolutely awesome cars 85 300ZX will do 140 miles an hour no problem the 350Z a hundred sixty miles an hour no problem and they both looked fantastic I love the Z's one day I'll have one of those Next Generation 300z and a GTR :-)
Border makes a 1200hp fuel rail 850cc The problem is a 700hp turbo is all that fits a stock chassis. The race cars have a tube frame chassis allowing more turbo room. 700bb is the biggest.
Previous design was "boxy" ? are you kidding "Bonneville Saltville" You knew it was wrong as you were saying it and after editing you still left that in?
