I know the video would be better if every single one had Gameplay, this comment I am used to when doing these. Yet, I record everyday, heavily edited and often scripted videos + Stream on the Weekends and Organise Tournaments. Sadly I also cannot re-install every Mod, download it, deal with issues and then capture gameplay 10 times over - so for most I used screenshots. I know it's not perfect, but it is the best I could possibly do. : ) (Having to state it here as it is usually the biggest complaint from the series)
The Elder Scrolls Total War is ridiculous, in the best possible way. I've been playing a Telvanni campaign, and my generals bodyguard units have been getting 700-800 kills per battle by themselves. Insanely OP, but really fun to use against the massed hordes of Dagoth.
The Elder Scrools mod is a total mess as it adds a lot of things from ESO that doesn't fit aesthetically or lore-wise. Also the garrison scrips are bonkers, spawning units for the defender but doesn't remove them after the battle among many other things. The Unofficial patch makes all of those problems more noticeable and add it's own problems, like super-slow campaign, alot of events etc
@@MrAhnassi You might be right, but I am still really enjoying the mod. I don't really mind garrison scrips since the player is so much better than AI, they can be easily overcome anyway. I don't play with UP, so I haven;t noticed any exacerbated issues.
Something the elder scrolls mod does that I haven’t seen any other mods do is offer real quests to the players that give decent rewards. They all involve taking over a settlement or series of settlements, maybe constructing a certain type of building afterwards, but they always unlock a handful of unique units exclusive to that quest. In hotseat campaigns, it makes it so that players are competing with each other on completing these quests first to have an upper hand with new units. I’ve played a campaign with my brothers and it was a lot of fun, lasted almost a year. 120 turns of constant pressure from the ai and ourselves at some points. Definitely my favorite mod.
Hyrule and TES Mod seems to have crash issues on huge scale battles...and sometimes i had to manual save instead of autosave...i know they were trying to fix it but now they are dead/ceased to developed so yeah pretty sad too see it that way :(
@@Leo-64DC27 A small team of the remaining HTW devs is working on a new release of the mod, it's called Hyrule total war conquest edition now. This is their discord discord.gg/sAkJZea
Amazing that Medieval II still has such a good mod community. I've played probably over a 1000 hours on that thing and tried many of the mods on this list. And yet I've never fought the Mongols :P
What about De Bello Mundi? Is by far easier and cooler than Europa Barbarorum. It adds most of Europe, Asia and Africa and lot of factions to play in a pretty cool Rome: Total War vanilla style. As underrated as Eras Total Conquest. I really recommend it guys
I dont like Europa Barbarorum mostly because is really...broken, mostly They say some instructions that you have to follow, or the game would crash or not work
So happy DaC made it to spot 2, that's well deserved. It's got Lord of the Rings lore, balanced units, it's fixed pike and 2H mechanics, and to be honest, I don't see it as a single vast campaign, but several smaller ones. Playing as the besieged kingdom of Gondor is fundamentally different to the peaceful vale of Dorwinion, or the expedition for Moria.
Call of warhammer is my favorite along with third age. I have both warhammer 1 and 2 but i still play call of warhamer from time to time. It hurts me to see it so low on the list.
Some mods I would suggest are Last Kingdom and Wrath of the Norsemen (viking age mods) and the 1648 mod (30 Years' War mod). The 1648 mod completely transforms the game and genuinely feels like a time period vanilla hasn't explored.
There is that mod total war tzardoms which focuses the whole grand campaign to the underdeveloped Balkans and Italy and focuses on the late medieval history of that part of Europe
A mod I just discovered is Bulat Steel. It is honestly one of the best mods I have played of any total war. Imo its better than SS, with extremely beautiful units, amazing map and faction details, a lot (And I mean ALOT) of optional scripts with a launcher similar to SS. It is in Russian but just follow the install instructions and you'll get it to English, and the translation is pretty damn good. Go try it out guys, you wont regret it. EDIT: Since the mod is Russian made there are 3 Russian factions, just in case you have an itch to finally play fleshed out Russian factions
I've heard of it but not only is the installation difficult but I have next to no information about it where with others I have lists of factions and maps. Where can I find say a list of the factions and a map of their starting positions?
@@demetriblackheart4497 Here is the same video I used, after the installation he shows all of the factions in the mod. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3gTzX9qnmUg.html
People (who I have seen) would rather like a mod that has a working campaign than a mod that's only multiplayer, with just the slightest bit of campaign (divide and conquers multiplayer works and is just a bonus) and a lot of people like DaC, more than Reforged, you should see the downloads
There are also Hyrule Total War (Zelda) and Warcraft: Total War, unfortunately with plenty of problems with launching, but design is completely incredible. Bello Mundi is also fantastic with several kingdoms of ancient world and in addition "Rise of Three Kingdoms" inside the ancient China. In summary Medieval II is a solid base for modifications and almost I don't play in vanilia campaigns. Remark also that still new modifications are designing right now (Witcher: Total War, Silmarilion: Total War and India: Total War for example).
What you brought up about the English civil war mod is interesting. I never knew it existed and I was looking for a cool campaign to play having to do with Pike and shot military... Thanks for posting- I'm going to look into downloading it
I would just switch places one and two. I also don't get why you say that DaC has too big campaign but SS6.4's campaign is not too big? Both mods have max avaliable number of settlements so both camapigns are technically the same size.
I said SS does have a too big campaign. Although, still I feel DaC is bigger as it feel like it takess longer. Maybe larger garrsion scripts, or less easily to recuit units could be a factor in that
Yesterday I started playing medieval 2 and was looking for some mod that improves the gameplay and has fun. For some reason, this video was in my feed hahaha (for sure it was the destination) and I was interested in this stainless steel. thank you man! you have my like and inscription! forgive my english ;-; I live in Brazil I speak Portuguese
Call of Warhammer is my go to mod ... As a person who loves Warhammer AND Total War Warhammer Total war has let me down on both fronts ... But CoW:BotET is THE hottest stuff out there!! I'm in love with it. Round 300 and I'm not bored and not done... that mod is just a gift that keeps on giving. It just has so many secrets and little things that really show how much love there is pumped into it. Hell you can build Cathay trading posts at the right places but even just all the interesting litlle mercanaries could fill a game on its own !! Just an amazing mod.
Hey melkor, great vid, FYI call of warhammer is effectively dead iirc, but there is a team working on adding content and features to BOTET (COW sub-mod) to this day as well as a discord server where u can follow progression, they are atm working on their big 2.0 release. Keep on the great work and enjoying M2TW, cya around
Hehe, i am playing Novgorod in this mod (KGCM v5.02.0), turn 78 and the Mongols Horde is not a scary threat to me anymore. I am on the way to pay them all :)).
I love both DaC and Stainless, but I play Stainless more just because I can find DaC a bit overwhelming at times. Both great and I have the upmost respect for the DaC developers.
Stainless Steel, Third Age and EB2 are favs. My biggest complaint about Medieval 2 is the battle AI, which is too easy to outsmart in this game, which eventually removes the challenge once you've got a few good stacks of armies. Playing DEI now, having much better battles.
Ahhh too bad there was no love for Thera or the Three Kingdoms mod - Im still curious how Bronze Age Total War will do in Medieval 2^^ Gotta stay vigilant Im also suprised that the Call of Warhammer mod got placed "last" - It did its job pretty well (except crashing on every tactical battle with Skaven on them xD)
Next Time maybe top 5 best Total War Intros? (Include expansions) i think that is great idea, no one did Top 5 TW like this. I would set TW Shogun 2 TW Napoleon and TW Attyla Charlemagne :D
Third age divide and conquor is by far the most polished and exciting mod I've ever played. Plus it's a super easy installation....it's good people like me who aren't tech savvy.
My problem with SS6.4 is that it's too cav based, gunners are not very usefull (although they were really usefull especially when fighting the nomads, or even as the turks) and i felt like non-western factions (especially eastern-european factions) always had a disavantage compared to the western factions, why ? Weaker melee units, weaker missiles, weaker cav etc. I got bored of it cuz after playing as france for the 928282738th time
@@DarthNicky oh i forgot abt the crashes XD Lol i remember for a while i couldn't even change the settings cuz each time i wanted to change them, the set-up would crash lool
The Russian factions have a horrible starting roster but they're deadly in late era. I agree on the cumans that they're pretty bad with everything they have, the mongols having better everything. Also byzantium is also an eastern-european faction but calling it weak is just hilariously wrong. They have some of the best heavy cav, respectable misile units(+ motherfucking flame throwers) and their melee units are respectable on all levels. Their only weakness is their position in which they're surrounded by enemies and the bulgarian event which seems to weaken them a lot.
Total vanilla beyond is number one for me Swarming Europe with the Apache having both Norway and Denmark spam Britain with Norse swords man Being able to recruit welsh units If you own wales Being able to recruit kingdom of Antioch and Jerusalem units from those cities Ai and player are forced to always build best troops available (if you can recruit longbow men you can no longer recruit peasant archers ) which makes the game much harder no full stacks of peasants Several kingdoms faction in the vanilla grand campaign plus some new ones to add more orthodox and Islam factions Music from all expansions
Great video and found some new mods from it! I would give a special shoutout to Hyrule total war, for some amazing custom maps and the most diverse factions I've seen. Not super balanced by any means but I love the vibes.
@MELKOR if you like Total War Vannila, you might also like Total Banana mod www.moddb.com/mods/total-bananas-1099 It basically takes all the mods from Total War Medieval 2 Kingdoms (Teutonic, Crusades, British Isles and Americas) and puts them into one game with a huge map that extends from the Americas to Asia. It keeps the Vannila feeling and doesn't add any new units or mechanics.
hey melkor i was wondering if you would review the invasio barbarorum flagium dei mod for RTW BI? imo its very underrated and i think you would find it interesting : D
And the ultimate mod that is above all those mods (i played some including n.1) is Deus lo Vult Battlefield Balanced v4.36, there is no better mod if you looking for historical realism for TW2
Recently stated my first ever stainless steel play through as Byzantium on Hard/Hard. Oh boy, I wasn't ready. Things started out well enough. Currently have a Jihad on Constantinople, fighting all Muslim factions and fighting in the north/north-west against Papal States, Venice, Sicily and Hungary. At war on all fronts. Mostly been fighting defensively in my own territory. Having a blast so far. Scutatoi are the real ones and Papal Guard are BS.
Yes, any viewer engagement helps. Dislikes seem to have the least effect unless there are more dislikes than likes, because the algorithm doesn't recommend the video. Hope it helps you Temple sacking Epirid :P
Has anyone heard of and tried hyrule total war i highly recommend it if you love zelda, medieval 2 or just want to try something new. Its my favorite mod and i really want to share this mod with the community
Okay guys, which mod has the best Campaign? I loved Elder Scrolls and Third Age, even Age of The Petty Kings and Westeros was incredible. Can anyone suggest a mod with an equally incredible campaigns?
I love AOPK but sadly it seems like a one man project and they aren't many Units barely any if anything. After playing for 100s of hours with levies and men at arms you do start wanting some full plated armored units 😅
XD Yep. In my defence though, this was start of Covid Lockdown and moving house. I was probably working around 15 hours a day at this point. I was not going to spend 2 hours installing EB2, getting it working and then getting extra recording footage.
How do you keep Stainless Steel stable? I've literally tried everything I could find on the internet to fix it but at some point, often deep into a campaign I get a crash that I can't overcome so all this time as wasted and it is beyong frustrating. Do you have an older PC by any chance? I've heard it's the only way to ensure a stable experience...
@@o0oSM00THo0o yeah I'm on some like ~2013(4) hardware I've lost some SS campaigns so I feel your pain, man. What version of med2 are you installing? I left a comment on your page with link for installation of the mod.
Regarding Stainless Steel, is it Nostalgia that made it No. 1? It is so unstable it is almost unplayable. Hours upon hours were spent looking for all possible fixes, recommendations(combatibility mode, LAA, admininstrator, metoo fix, graphics etc.) like I literally tried everything I could find and still it will crash at somepoint in the campaign that can not be overcome. My last try was I was like 60 turns in and things were getting fun with just a few crashes that I could overcome I came back after two days to continue playing and upon loading any save it crashes even though I didn't change a thing. Just beyond frustrating and a huge waste of time this mod. Stability should def be a factor for these lists imo...
The civil war mods wether english or american or w/e will generally be ranked low as generally people of other countries couldn’t care less about the scenario.
I think they're all mod foldered and shouldn't affect Vanilla files except for Europa Barbarorum2 which last time i looked at their forum i think it said it cannot be installed if you use other mods. I currently have 11 Med2 mods installed without any problems.
