Now that I think about it, I really should've put the 3rd movement of Schumann's fantasy op. 17 on this list! Also maybe Chopin's etude op. 25 no. 7 and Debussy's Sunken Cathedral.

Skip the Schuman, do Chopin's Etude Op. 10 No. 3 instead. The Debussy is an A++. But where is Ravel in your playlist?

The Scriabin sounds a bit noisy and unmemorable…im not hearing any beauty in this piece; but it sounds hellishly difficult, which is exactly the kind of score that would appeal to someone like Marc-Andre Hamelin

Interesting choices, and brilliant playing, both stirring and technically polished. Bravo! What a talent you have. That said, your video underlines how different people's choices are. By "beautiful," you seem to mean for the most part technically challenging. I can think of many Chopin pieces more "beautiful" to me. His Ballade No. 1 in G Minor, for instance, Though keep in mind that's my personal taste. The trio to Rachmaninov's Prelude in G Minor (Op. 23 No. 5) is by far his most beautiful solo work. IMO, of course. Pleased you include two Alkan pieces, and the Quasi Faust is monumental. Though for beauty, I'll always favor his modest but ineffably haunting Barcarolle.

What a delight to see Scriabin and Alkan in this selection… they are severely under-rated! I was listening to Alkan almost exclusively in 2009, and to Scriabin (also almost exclusively, to the point of obsession) in 2011. By the way - sorry if the comment section is an inappropriate place to ask this question, but I could not find any contact information on your channel - do you take commissions? I am looking for a performer who would record a piece for a fee. Please send a personal message if you are interested. Yours sincerely, Andreï.

I wouldn't have picked any of those. IMHO, none of them compares to the wistful, slow melody toward the end of Liszt's sonata or the beautiful Liebestraum and Un Sospiro. Debussy's Claire de Lune is also in my top 10. Check out Gryaznov's gorgeous arrangement/paraphrase of Glinka's Waltz. That's one of the best things I've ever heard.

@megi5673
@megi5673 Месяц назад
I dont think that Beethoven's too fast, it needs to be like that so you could get a nice, cantabile melody in the main voice. If you drag it too much it waters down, and the melody gets lost in my opinion.

My choices are subjective and will be different for everyone, but then again, I’ve played a lot (if not mostly) fast and virtuosic repertoire which just doesn’t have the gentle beauty as say a late beethoven sonata or a Chopin nocturne.
