I completely understand what you’re saying. He’s a despicable character and I want to see him pay for it, however Miura’s writing of him and his ultimate goals independent of the God Hand are interesting.
Griffith is by far one of the best characters to have ever been written, because when you're first introduced to him, he seems to be this nigh perfect magnificent leader, capable of achieving any feat. Then you learn. He is a complete bastard and selfish narcissist. You can love the character but also hate the character because of how well developed he is.
However ironically Griffith did view Guts as a friend and why Guts made him "forget" his dream. Guts simply didn't see this and so all he'll broke loose, literally.
This video brings up a good question. If Guts knew that Griffith sent out a search party to recover him, would Guts still left? This was *after* the dream speech.
What I don't understand his definition of a friend sounds more like an enemy or rival. Maybe now Griffith considers Guts a friend based on this definition as they square off each other.
@@ProjectShinkai I dont think Griffith was lying. You are correct that Griffith does consider Guts his friend but based on Griffith definition of friendship. Guts was willing to protect what was important to him in their first encounter which was his pride as a man and warrior.
The funniest part of all of it is that for all the evil Griffith did he could still be considered morally grey because his actions created literal paradise on earth, united humans and demons peacefully, and actually managed to end the constant war. Literally people who weren't present for the eclipse or know what occurred view him as essentially the savior of humanity. It gotta be one of the most well written characters in all of anime/manga. Especially when the sacrificing was almost a case of, "Put anyone 100% in those shoes and most people probably would have made the same choice." It's just the Casca stuff that put it over the top.
@@TheRabbit68 no he actually set it up to cause the roar. But he was in charge of both sides. So every death is his fault. His a great character but a full blown villain.
I have been contemplating certain theories like "Griffith will betray the Godhand" and others like that. It has got me thinking whether Griffith is a bad ruler or king. True, Griffith has done some terrible things, but everything he is doing for the world and Falconia is beneficial for the people living there. As far as what he has done to Casca, kidnapping her, and Guts, in the grand scheme of things, it seems like he wants to be a genuinely good king or ruler. Unless he does something like mass sacrifice and betrays everyone in Falconia, it doesn't seem like he's doing anything terrible right now. This thought makes me wonder what kind of king he would have been if Guts hadn't left. What if Guts stayed and Griffith married Charlotte and became king? To me, it seems like he would have been a good, honest king that everyone would have loved. Am I wrong?
