the fact that Cry of Fear (or Afraid of Monsters) isnt on this list kinda disappoints me, its one of the most underrated horror games of all time, a masterpiece and made by only 4 people back in 2013 I'm still hype for the Cry of Fear remake and hope it get a lot of recognition in the future!

Sadly, cry of fear remakes have been cancelled twice. The first remake were cancelled because the engine is too expensive! ($20.000 i’ve heard) The second remake is cancelled because the game requires more professional developers and team psykskallar doesn’t have them, maybe because most of the devs were hobbyists (probably)

I definitely found Manhunt 2, Dead Space 1 and 2, Outlast and Resident Evil 7 to be some of the most disturbing games I've played but there was also a real sense of accomplishment after I completed them

Long time fan of re games, not so much the films, and I agree. It was by far the only 1 that bothered me over all, except for in 96 when I was 12. But 7 was a whole different game that included no ball 😉

Dead space 3 most disturbing scene is the dlc section although many will not like it but the voice of breathean moons saying to you through a hive mind is really terrifying and the cosmic horror at which point moons also refers to make us whole which might mean they can merge or awaken a greater and bigger lovercraftian necromorph. Dead space franchise will always be a legacy of horror I just hope Callisto protocol 's next installment focuses more on horror and has good gameplay and the Dev's should bring back statis module instead of gravity gauntlet.The player should always feel helpless and frightened when playing Callisto protocol that's what made CP predecessor 's so scary.

I live in the Boston area, so the game “Fallout 4” literally hit home for me. Also, the idea that civilization could crumble and the survivors could still be fighting to the death over the ruins a hundred years later is profoundly disturbing.

I know there are probably scarier games than Outlast, but that game freaked me out so much when I first played it. I only lasted thirty minutes on it before I shut it off 😅

The dlc for Outlast 1 is more missed up then the main game. You probably know why. When it comes to outlast 2 , some parts of it are disturbing as well. Also when it comes to beating outlast 1 , I was able to get through it as well. Also Im like half way through on the 2nd game.

Silent Hill was terrifying because it was a slow burn. There is so much subtlety in that game like Angela's horrible past. She never tells you what happened but the player slowly discovers her dark past. It's one of those, "Did I beat the game? Or did it beat me?"

Bloodbourne was a nightmarish tense game too. Eldritch horror, body horror, distant screams of victims, werewolves tearing victims apart, the old ones, and the fact you have to go into the mind of a mad man to destroy a nightmare... It freaked me out over and over until I beat it. Now I'm desensitized to it but... The old hunters dlc still makes me get jump scares.

Evil Within 2 holds a special place in my heart. The player quite literally enters the mind of a serial killer. We get to see Stefano's twisted creations and how he reanimates his victims from the real world within STEM. I am surprised it didn't even get an honorable mention 😢

Yes! I did NOT like the paranormal activity ghost chic that could faze through the walls, and then the monster chic with all the heads that giggles 😵‍💫, and the tripod camera monster really got to me. Love that game though lol Also the monster in the DLC terrified me.

imo the first Evil within is vastly better that its sequel. the first third of EW2 is horror through and through, but after you defeat Stefano it becomes a generic action shooter with some horror in it, its a shame :/

One thing I do like zombie horror movies/tv shows and games is that asides from having to worry about the undead they also show how humans are worse. I can almost guarantee that if a zombie apocalypse actually were to happen humans will be just as bad if not worse than movies/tv shows and movies

I would add Twisted Metal Black on as an honorable mention given the dark and disturbing backstories of the drivers. Especially The Preacher and Dollface having to change during development because it was too far and in bad taste to have in the final product.

A very unexpectedly disturbing one: Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls. A group of elementary kids take over a whole town and are making a bunch of other kids kill all the adults and release various and vicious Monokumas. They put exploding wristbands on “Demons” (adults that stand out to them) and pretty much hunt them. Jatoro’s scene where he talks about turning dead adults bodies into twisted marionette dolls is so disturbing every time (Also there’s a character who’s a literal p*do)

Well there’s a game that I would of threw on here but it’s not as popular as these were was the original The Suffering. Making good, bad or neutral decisions had consequences as you tried to uncover your memories of who actually murdered your family and sent you to jail. You come across disturbing enemies based off of the way they died while your bloodlust killing them makes you hulk out and tear any enemy to shreds just to find out that’s the way you perceive yourself, and not what your enemies see. I wished I had a means to play it again and while the sequel wasn’t as good it was decent.

Hi, I liked the gameplay in The Last Of Us Part 2 and I thought it was amazing! The story was just a classic revenge tale though but it wasn't as good as the story in The Last Of Us Part 1. I liked Ellie's section the best because she's so awesome when it comes to fighting off the enemies that come after her.

I was expecting this game to at least get an honorable mention, though it should have so been on the list. It is the f'n PTSD simulator. While there are definitely over the top action sequences, the game is a bit more grounded than the others on the list. There are no monsters other than the ones we make... and that monster looks back at you in the mirror. The game really was brilliant.

Me: Corpse Party series, Omori, The Walking Dead by Telltale Games series, Heavy Rain, Until Dawn, Red Dead Redemption 2 (especially when you go hunting the serial killer part, second is Kieran's part) But every game I mentioned here are so good despite they have disturbing moments 😂

The line you see before you even get to the main menu give me chills to this day. "The worst foe lies within the self", The fact that the enemy you face is something that is physically inside of you, including all other life forms, is pretty disturbing. There is no running away because it is literally impossible. That is before you even get to playing the disturbing shit, though that intro video does show quite a bit. It didn't really make the list, though.

The disappointment of LOU 2 couldn't dwevle my interest in it's disturbing lesson of revenge. Besides, if that was what they're trying to teach the player, Naughty Dog failed hard, seeing dumbass Abby got her revenge by killing Joel and traumatized Ellie further losing a father figure made it out to be ok, while when Ellie seeking it for his namesake, made it look like it was wrong to do it. Taking the enjoyment out the game, and leaving a disinterest in most players for any sequel.

There’s a game (drowning simulator I think) where you use the mouse scroll wheel to keep yourself afloat and the end state is always a futile effort leading to drowning. Definitely unnerving

Sad to see Cry Of Fear not even get an honorable mention. That game is fantastic, and while it may not be super gore-filled, the story that deals with mental health and other heavy topics is very well done and very disturbing.

Scron is ok until it's last chapter, oh boy nothing can prepare you for that, not even the rest of the games in this list, also the ending so bizarre and unsettling
