True story...I just found a Beatles butcher cover album for $1 at a garage sale. This is just AFTER another collector had gone through the box of records ahead of me. How he missed it, I will never know.
@@jeffbecker8716 Hi. The one I found was a peeled cover. Not the overlay. That's why I was astounded the other guy missed it! He does lean more toward jazz, but every collector should know the Butcher cover!
I just found one at a record store for $10. A record store that should know better. Also it’s a stereo, in the shrink. Second one I’ve found in the wild. First one was a mono, what are the odds??
you probably dont care but does someone know of a tool to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost my password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me.
the "butcher" album by the beatles is one of my favorite albums by them and I think it's their best "USA" album, because you know they had some completely different albums in the US and UK.
The yellow third man pressing of McCartney iii are going for $2000 on eBay and the album isn’t released yet. Paul is so good that you don’t even need to listen to the album to know it’s great.
The red Third Man pressing is already going for over $100+, and THAT has not been released yet either. And I thought the $40 pre-order was overpriced. 🤑
That Beatle one I remember that was a featured item on "antique roadshow" once. I recall the woman said she walked into Kmart bought it the day that they had it and then I guess they pulled the rest from the shelf shortly thereafter.
Thanks for uploading this today. I'm so obsessed with grails lol. My dad gets hundreds of records from house clearances and I buy them to sell online (apart from all the ones I want to keep now I'm slipping into collecting) The thought of finding those grails keeps me going every day, but there's so much Herb Alpert to search through! ( :
I once inspected the condition of an Engelbert Humperdink record because his song "after the lovin'" was one of my mother's favorites. And as I opened the cover and revealed the sleeve, out slides a $100 bill. Someone was having Engelbert guard Benjamin for safe keeping!
Cool video! One of my best finds gotta be around one month ago. I found a single from David Bowie - Memory Of A Free Festival (dutch pressing) at a garage sale for 50 cents and some other less colllectable david bowie singles (they where all 50 cents each). The weird thing is that they are never played because they where given a long time ago to the person who sold them to me and she never liked David Bowie so she never played them :')
New record on Frank Wilson £110,000 in September 2020 there are four white demos, one white label test pressing and one ISSUE (which turned up in a little mom and pop shop in Detroit). It's important to know that there are lots of copies of the later British reissues - indeed it actually kissed the bottom of the charts. Jack White also bought one of the copies (£50k) for the city of Detroit.
Great stuff! Imagining Bill Murray breaking into the FBI vaults without any legal repercussions is just fantastic. Wouldn‘t mind a low numbered White Album either, doesn‘t have to be 0000001, I‘ll settle for 0000004. Thanks for the video!
A Comic Book Artist friend of mine, one of his first paid commissions back in the early 80s was a cover for a band called "Third Quadrant". They couldn't even afford proper covers so the album comes in a plastic outer sleeve with a single sheet insert with that artwork and another for the credits. I thought it would be even too obscure for Disocgs, it's not, it's not daft money but on the rise. The Kosmik Artifact edition of King Buffalo's EP from earlier this year is already fetching north of $100.
I had a total brain fart about a decade ago and it was whilst flipping through goodwill albums. I passed up a bunch of John Mayall in the interest of coming back to him. At the counter I recalled that I had planned on getting them but being in pain I passed. Then a couple days later I realised that I had confused Coltrane with Mayall and my heart sunk. I have never skipped over another album ever whilst flipping through goodwill albums or any other! To think that I could have about a dozen Coltrane LPs in my collection is a nauseating feeling to even admit the blunder. -✌🏼
Stories about Beatles albums (and singles) always makes me curious as to whatever happened to my sister's collection (she was an avid fan, she even had each member's solo material after the breakup).
Enjoyed the video. I was wondering if you could list the albums in the comments. You held up a few albums but I couldn't read the labels because my phone's screen isn't very big.
I actually have an original copy of the beetles butcher album, Yesterday and today. Its perfect condition. The problem is finding someone that is willing to pay that price.
I have 2 rare records 1 only 500 were made and the other 1000 world wide and never got a reissue..I thought about selling them but who knows but not worth nowhere near what the one you mentioned. Great video Dillon
Wasn't there a Velvet Underground acetate found at a yard sale for 75 cents? If I remember correctly it had some early cuts from VU and Nico and was estimated into the hundreds of thousands of dollars? I was waiting for that one to be number one.
I have a 3rd state Beatles Butcher Cover West Coast pressing I won on an auction on Ebay. I also have the American Standard "The Bathrooms Are Coming!" Industrial Musical album that I paid over $500 for on Ebay. It's the most expensive record I've ever bought.
If I remember correctly, Shkreli has played snippets from the album on stream sometime before he got arrested. He also claimed his cat knocked the package off his table causing the CD to fall out and get scratched, but take that with a giant rock of salt.
Enjoying all your videos but I have to chuckle when you have to explain who some of these bands where from the 1960's like Velvet Underground in one of your other videos. I must be getting really old because I was born only 4 years after the introduction of the 33 1/3 and 45 rpm record :)
I always found some records to be expensive... Mostly artists such as Leadbelly Tim Buckley 13th Floor Elavators John Lee Hooker The Leaves Index Iggy Pop /The Stooges Just to name a few
I found a Pitman pressing of Jimmy Buffett's first album at a thrift store for a buck. In really nice shape but with a small corner cut. Discogs shows it as a nice value.
The Xanadu Picture Disc was rare and expensive too. Only 31 copies of the record in the world. It’s because MCA Records didn’t like the way the movie’s poster was cropped in the record. Its price is $8,655.00!
I've got a box of 45s from the '60s, 70s and 80s that I bought new and need to find out what they're worth because I'm ready to sell. I've had them a LONG LONG time and just don't play them anymore. I can find and play the same songs on RU-vid without any hassles..... ;-)
RE blues 78's --there have been higher $$$ ones sold privately beatles white album, I have heard there were multiple copies of #1 ...band members , employees. etc Also of #9
I remember an ad either in Goldmine or Rolling Stone magazine back in the late 70s or very early 80s someone had a box of Sealed butcher lps. Some were moron and a few stereo being sold for $1000 and $1200 respectively. How I wish I’d bought a few.
Question...the Beatles album Yesterday and Today which has this cover on it and was taken off, why does the, THE BEATLES RARITIES album feature on the inside of the album cover this same picture if it was banned from the front. Curious
@@00stobart I stand corrected. Chris Clark recorded the song in the 60s and there are actually black label Tamla Motown 45s out there....of "Do I Love You" by Chris Clark. Unofficial UK label?
I possibly came across one of those Holy Grails, where is the best place to convert it into Cash? Is ebay the way to go or is there a more promising auction house?
Pink Floyd The Wall is in it's very first print. The first case sent out goes to Long Beach California. To a Tower records. Second case goes to London. Before a third case is shipped, they realize they messed up the inside cover. It did not have Pink Floyd and then the band members names. The called the two stores that got the misprints and told them not to open the case and send it back. And they do--sort of. Did any of the others make it out into the wild?
How about this one: Krokus' first album, self titled, and a prog album at that, only had 560 copies made in 1975! And it has not been made available since! That album, I am sure, would be some $$$!!!
actually there are 4 known pressings. They differ by the cover and the rights society on the label. the two covers are the artistic version and another one that is white with just the name. the two rights societies are ML and SUISA, what we do know is SUISA didn't exist until the 80s. why there are two cover designs who knows. So if you have ML on the label its the 70s press. the general argument is the artistic cover plus ML is the first press. also I don't know where 560 comes from, its quoted online, but what is the actual source? Seems to be a lot of copies about for something only 560 pressed. you can check discogs prices on it, its a tough album to sell in my experience.
@@patricklynch6771 i know, but its source has no citation, these things tend to become internet facts without any verification. they are propagated by dealers. it is also quoted on discogs.
@@varsityathlete9927 Looking at Discogs now. A majority of the copies that you mention are either in Switzerland or Russia and come with a pretty hefty price tag! $345.24! Way too much money for my taste! I doubt if the band will ever re-release it!
It is believed that the most valuable classical record ever sold was the 10-LP Mozart in Paris that sold for $27,000. Of course, the classical market has come way down in the past 20 years, so now you would be hard-pressed to get $5000 for the set. If you only look at recent sales, someone sold the three Martzy mono Bach Violin sonata records on UK Columbia for $9999 on eBay, which is only down slightly from the peak price of 20 years ago. A record I actually own, the first pressing of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto/Bruch Scottish Fantasy on Decca SXL 2026 sold recently for $1599. Made in England at six o'clock, half-moon flipback cover. These are all stock production records that were sold in stores between 1950 and 1965.
Hi from the UK, not quite on the the scale of some of these valuable items but I was recently with someone I know who went through a box of old vinyl he had for some 30 years and he pulled out a Jimi Hendrix red vinyl with no cover, Cry of Love but.... on the reverse was a red poly door label for Bert Kaempfert. Turns out it was one of only 5 known test pressings to try out reaction to the coloured vinyl. He was shaking when he read up on it. This was a few weeks ago so is looking to sell if you or anyone is interested.
Hi These Hendrix Lp were pressed at Orlakes in Dagenham, and thrown away in a skip at the factory, employees would take them home mostly coloured vinyl's and slightly faulty un-cut picture discs. I know of at least 9 other copies, my ex girl friend's mother worked there for over 20 years. My suggestion would be to auction it on eBay and let the person with the deepest pockets purchase it! Don't put a reserve on it as it could put people off, (It makes you look greedy). It should fetch £1,000 to £3,000. but it's definatly right not a boot leg due to the Burt Kaempfert on the reverse label. All the best Brendan
I hate to burst the bubble re: the Wu-Tang album contract's "Heist" clause, but sadly, it wouldn't hold water in court. It would be like writing a contract that said, "Party 1 agrees to be murdered by party 2. Said murder can only be committed by Party 1, as agreed upon by both parties, with no legal repercussions." So just bc u wrote in ur contract doesn't make it legal. If we could do that, we could still have things like duels to the death, etc, provided both parties agreed prior. But we don't have that. Bc these are all crimes, and hence, contractually void/unenforceable. As much as it pains me to acknowledge that Bill Murray can't do a heist to recapture this baby, I have to be real ab this.
@@noblerecords cool. I’ve never seen a definitive breakdown. Something I saw had it listed as a CD. Maybe we can get Bill Murray to break into the FBI evidence room so we can confirm. I remember when he was under house arrest he had it on eBay for a bit.
My accidental grail story: found a 2nd state butcher at a local record store in the Beatles section for 9.99 Let me tell you, the feeling is unbelievable when you know something the person at the record store apparently didn’t or missed. I played it cool and bought it with some others and walked out. I already have two other butchers, one peeled one not (I’m obsessed with beatles records and have disposable income), so this a flip piece. Invested 150 dollars to have it peeled by a dealer I know and sold it on EBay for 800. Ahh good times. :)
@@RubenEditIT there's a school of thought that thinks the 2nd States will be worth more eventually...but in my experience collecting a solid 3rd state is worth more right now just because it's so easy to botch that process haha. there was some writing / marks on the cover of the one i found so it made sense just to peel it. This was about a year ago.
@@claytonshank6871 if there's writing on the cover It was probably the best thing to do. I have seen the butcher cover three times now and always over 2000 euro's in the most shitty conditions xD
@@RubenEditIT Haha true. Yeah the Butcher is more common and seen in the US for obvious reasons but 2,000 euros seems excessive! To shed some light on the pricing in my experience, I bought a VG+ 2nd State Mono for 650 USD a few years back and a 3rd State Stereo for 1400 USD (VG / VG+ peel)
I was just given led zeppelin 1 2 and 3 first press. Not being a huge fan I decided to sell them on until.....I was made aware that I had a rare turquoise first press...in vg+ condition. I don't know what to do now.....
If you can figure out why Chapman killed Lennon...then you can figure out why America was insane enough to elect Joe Biden as president. Let me know if you ever do.......
I have a partially peeled butcher block album. (I got tired of peeling, so I stopped.) When I check prices on EBay, they're all over the map, ranging from 2 digits to 6. Not sure what the proper price is. My White Album number is $1m+. Guess it isn't worth anything. Have lots of 45s. One is a single by John Lennon's father, Freddie Lennon. Bought it a long time ago in Woolworth's bargain bin.
On the Shaolin I would’ve added a clause: “Purchaser has option to fire upon any current member of Wutang and/or actor Bill Murray if they bust in his house.” Actually I wish pharmabro would’ve got Clan-ganked the day before the Feds busted him.
I heard that Wu-Tang albums sounded horrible lol. It wasn't an actual recording, but just a bunch of random pieces of different sessions linked together to try to make songs.
