Steam does allow porn, but not if it contains underaged characters. I read a forum post by someone working with a dev that suggested even if the steam version is censored, the existence of an uncensor patch could get them banned too, but honestly that just sounds like paranoia. That said, you're right that it's very inconsistent. I imagine at least one reason is that steam has no quality control so some instances may simply slip through, Other times maybe it's due to the invisible judgement of anonymous moderators and you never know if you'll get a good or bad mod. Steam has never been comfortable with adult content and it frankly doesn't handle it well. Non-adult games frequently get lumped in with adult content if they contain romance or visual novel-style cutscenes which makes their recommendation algorithm think players don't want them. In reality, they're just being shown to the wrong crowd because the platform doesn't know the difference between HuniePop and Gems of War.

Yep I know exactly what you’re talking about or the onsen DLC and after the dungeon of gravure models there was supposed to be a photoshoot and the girls involved were supposed to wear swimsuits but wore casual summer wear instead and the wedding dress isn’t the only outfit Tsubasa got censored even her idol outfit was censored even the idol she worshipped had her outfit censored even certain bosses were censored specifically Aversa, so is it too much for a free update to give us what we loss or paid DLC cuz sheesh it’s just ridiculous, now I’m curious if the Atelier games were censored

Not only that With the Switch port the Encore version they ported the North American/Western release that was Censored to the Japanese audiences which made no sense since the OG Wii-U version wasn't censored in Japan.

@@Fender178 yeah I know bro trust me when the Japanese player base heard that the Wii U version became the highest selling game on the Wii U too late tho if that happened before they released it on the switch maybe just maybe we could of had the uncensored version worldwide so I blame the Japanese players, Atlus and Sega for the heavy censorship in this game cuz at the time Nintendo said weren’t going to censor 3rd party games other than FE being in it still technically a 3rd party game

They also completely removed the onsen DLC.

100% agree. This was the most unforgiveable. Surprised it wasn't in this video. Everyone responsible for those choices deserved to be fired, and I'll never spend a penny on those games until they release an actual REAL complete version in English. The translation for that game also got a lot of criticism. Sure, translation itself is more an opinion matter, but not when they completely LEAVE OUT entire conversations and replace tons of dialogue with just lazy sound effects.

Well, the thing is: Germany was very harsh on violence, thus Censoring Violence was to cater to the German/European Market. Sexual Scenes is something the US don't like, so that's catering to the US. In the end, we lose both...

Honestly censorship on anime in general in the 90s and early 2000s was just weird (yugioh´s onigiri burger, one pieces sanji lolipop only to name a few). Not to mention any form of violence censorship in america is really hypocritical considering real life schools there can become a war zone. The only censorship i can stand behind is that of sexual content with little girls.

it's not really about respect, its more the control over the people, i mean, look at the main reasons of banning, its mostly religion and politics. When a game was banned on basis on that, then the people not even know that the game existed, for example like the Shinseiki Odysselya games on snes, because of a scene where Moses uses, as refered in the game, magic to make a passage trou water to escape with the slaves from egipt, was too offensive for western christianity. Most people not even know a game like this existed. When it comes to nudity somehow some productions are ok to have excesive nudity and others are a threat to civilisation because of a minimum of it. So the bans based on it seems realy unporpotional to realitic need of censorship, it feels more like the atempt to control the marked on what companies are allowed to sell nudity in they games, and what companies not.

Hopefully it will be kept to a minimum, Nintendo has been very good about not censoring this gen, but I suppose this is more up to Squarenix. We will see.

@@jmccain22090 Playing the demo I'm a little more optimistic as it seems to follow the original pretty well without dumbing it down. But the two chapters I mentioned will be the real test on how censored it potentially could be.

@@shenloken2 In the demo the playable part of the Xin Shan Quan chapter is fine. So I´m optimistic. If not the voice acting needs to be disabled and Aeon Genesis translation inserted.

I'm pretty confident the Japanese dialog will be intact as it would piss of a lot of people if they changed, but ever since they butchered chrono cross I can't say for sure.

@@jmccain22090 from what i have seen it looks like for the most part nintendo let the devs of 3rd party games decide if they want to censor or do other changes to their game, afaik nintendo has only censored their own games

Yeah, Albedo intentionally tearing his own head off with his bare hands really just helps sell how far he is off the deep end and what an absolute monster he is.

Xenosaga 3 was brought outside Japan by 8-4, unlike the first two games. Nearly every title they touch is censored in some form or another.

It reminds me of Tales of Berseria censorship. I still have no idea why they thought that being stabbed by a magical pillar of light was les gruesome than just being stabbed with a sword.

That ruined a pivotal scene. So dumb.

Dungeon travelers is a deceptively deep game and by far the best dungeon crawler i've played. freakin love it! i just wish we were able to get the rest of them :(

Would steal kills me is the people that continue to bash the game for the characters even though the content and question was already taken out of the game. And to have your game not be accepted on Steam no matter how much you censor it, what's even the point in having anime games on Steam?

@@Sean-nr3ts Outfits, I believe they also aged up some characters and the worst they removed the "vagina bones" in one of the outfits which was enough to steer me from buying the game. Another sad case was Fatal Frame Maiden of Blackwater

It was my whole reasoning for not getting the game. How the hell is being stabbed by two magic skewers make this scene any better than progressed being stabbed by a sword? The magic scene made the whole thing too flashy and unnecessary and made the villain seem like a complete coward. The sword made it seem more cold-blooded and personal. That and I wasn't giving censorship a time of day.

I still own and play the game from time to time, it's only that one part that bothers me. It's not enough for me to not play it, and I like Zestiria as well. I didn't know about the media fiasco until months after I got the game. Honestly I don't watch TV all that much anymore and I was told about it by fc mates on FFXIV. I still like the game even though the protagonist is kinda boring. I originally bought the games cause I like jrpg's. Still think people should at least give those Tales games a shot to form their own opinions and not just go by whatever the internet says. I honestly think a lot of games are overlooked because people go by whatever the internet says instead of trying it out themselves. Still think it's hilarious and also at times annoying, I'd get people telling me to not play free to play games that are p2w. Especially when I haven't even spent a penny on them, a lot of people gloss over that detail, plus even if I spend money on them it's my money not theirs. It's stupid when people act like it is. Kinda went off tangent a bit, but people really should try forming their own opinions and stop being sheep

Well it makes sense. After Final Fantasy VII became a huge success in America companies then suddenly felt the urge to release more JRPGs than ever before and finally cash in after being only moderately successful during the SNES era.

That’s why I don’t support PlayStation anymore. Now that PlayStation HQ is in California, no way in hell am I buying a PS5. Seeing as they are mostly making western cinematic games these days I don’t even want one anyways.

On the PlayStation, mainly. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's why Mary Skelter Finale was censored everywhere. And that Neptunia x Senran Kagura crossover had basically toned down the fanservice on BOTH sides of the crossover!

At least Nintendo is mostly past its age of censorship, which was the mid 2010s.

And then the switch version just used the censored version as a base for all regions, which pissed off the Japanese players so much Nintendo had to offer refunds on pre orders and then amazon japan had the original wii u topping the sales charts for a few weeks since Japanese players preferred to just play that one.

@@MLPflutterguy It may have been Nintendo, because they don't want any of their first-party games to be rated M, and there's a theory that the censored content would've pushed the game to an M rating in America; even though it's not a first-party game, it's a "Fire Emblem" game by technicality.

Is the game good to play despite ignoring the dialogues? Etrian Odyssey fans consider Dungeon Travelers 2 to be good.

Im the wrong guy to ask since I love transparency in my games, and while the story isnt important, being able to read skill snd spell descriptions is. I prob wouldnt enjoy it not being able to do that. That said check out labyrinth of touhou 1 and 2. They arent first person dungeon crawlers, they top down, but their combat system is by far the best. I love etrian odyssey too btw. Stranger of sword city revisited is prob a runner up as well.

@@Ghalion666 is that Labyrinth of Touhou you mentioned the one I saw on Steam? About DT2, the skill would definitely be a problem... Really wish that I got a Vita. About dungeon crawlers, all I just need is the game to have an interesting exploration and class synergy. I always love executing my set ups in Etrian Odyssey.

@@soratheorangejuicemascot5809 Yeah Labyrinth of Touhou 2 went on steam recently, 1 still isn't though. 1 Is actually better for dungeon exploration, it's kinda meh in 2 but whatever. It also pretends to have Etrian odyssey style FOEs, but it really doesn't, they are just visible boss encounters basically that respawn after awhile (a long while, you basically don't have to worry about them respawning). By Touhou Laby lets you have 12 person parties with 4 in the front line. You switch them in and out during combat like FFx or something but the switch character command takes very little time on the atb bar. Healing is also very limited, so rather than just healing all the damage you take you are more supposed to ensure it goes to characters that can take the h its, and switch t hem out when needed. But yeah, there are like 90ish playable characters or something, I forget how many exactly, and you choose up to 12 in your party, so there is a massive emphasis put on party synergy. I like the buff mechanics alot too. Instead of having buffs turn on and off like a binary thing. They scale from -50% to +100%. So like you cast a +50% atack buff, it'll goto 50%, each turn makes 33% of your buff/debuffs go back towards 0%, so your 50% will then turn to 33% So lets say you do the same buff, now you're at 83%, then you spend a turn with 83% attack power, next turn you'll be at 55%. This works for the bad guys too, and you can see how much buff/debuffs they have (as well as you). So instead of just making sure you keep certain buffs up all the time, you have to actively decide how MUCH you want them up, and if it's worth spending a nother turn rebuffing when you only lose it partially, etc.

Sadly, this won't work anymore. Sony's been starting to censor games even in Japan. And they now seem to have enough control on both Tamsoft and Idea Factory to have the censorship cover other platforms as well. God I hate modern Sony.

Doesn’t look like there was any censoring for NoA2. who really knows, though it wouldnt be far off if maybe the localization had some changes made to make the Yuri innuendos less prevalent. Again who knows…this is Gust/Koei tecmo, and at that time we had Blue Reflection which came out before NoA2.

Simple economics my dude. Less places will sell adult-only rates games. Even games with mature ratings can see their lifetime sales a little lower than otherwise expected all things being equal. That’s actually why I’ve taken to buying more heavily censors games on PC (Steam). There are often patches put out by the developers that you can download and apply outside of Steam which restores censored content.

There's also the fact that a good amount of parents buy this games to their kids without paying attention to the rating simply because their kids wont stop pestering them about it, all this parent pay attention to is to the anime characters in the box-art. This same parents later cause some drama when they discover what they bought their kids.

Also since these platforms are targeted at children, they don't accept adult games in them.

I’d say suggestive content of minors is a very good reason to censor.

And don't buy that Neptunia x Senran Kagura crossover. It was pre-censored. As in, the lewd content that was expected from both franchises was removed in advance and the game is tamer than everything that came before it from both franchises.

@@lunatic0verlord10 that's why I avoided that game too. In fact any anime game that goes through Sony at all and comes to the switch, I look at with extreme skepticism. Especially if it was presented with censorship to appease Sony, then it's a higher chance it'll be censored on every other platform as well.

By the way, there is one user on this site who somehow believes that NINTENDO is to blame for the Neptunia x SK crossover's censorship. Can you believe that? It was Sony every time Neptunia and SK got screwed over, so why would it be anyone else?
