When Hepburn was dying, she was in New York and wanted to go home to Switzerland. She was too ill to fly commercial, so Givenchy granted one of her final wishes by arranging a private jet filled with flowers for his muse and friend.
She was blessed with a very rare perfectly slim body and beautiful bold facial features, and balletic training. She displayed All these magnificent fashions like no one else!!
If you can not believe that you will never see another classy, iconic woman like Audrey,Elizabeth, or Marilyn...Then you must become those things that you crave to see.... And when you “let go and let God “ you will get what you want and it will be the way you are truly supposed to get it!!!
definitely Grace Kelly too. Her outfits in To Catch A Thief. That blue dress she wears is incredible. I want one so badly but I would not look as good as her
Last year, I went to Morges, Switzerland (where Audrey Hepburn lived and is buried) to see an exhibition of Hepburn's outfits designed by Hubert de Givenchy, who by the way cooperated in the organization of this exhibition. Absolutely FABULOUS! Each single item is absolutely stunning, an epitome of pure elegance and Beauty (the materials used, the colours, the cut of each garment). Each single item could even be worn today!
Wow to travel to Switzerland what was it like? And yes I'm a big big fan of Audrey Hepburn and she was one of the few women actresses who wore some of the best clothes I've ever seen in my life..
Rip Hurbert de Givenchy One of by favorite designer, and a true artist. And this pairs were Both such icons in their right. Givenchy will be miss greatly💙
I preferred the shorter black dress she wore in Breakfast at Tiffanys with the large brim hat. But I think Audrey could have worn a black plastic bag and looked Chic! All designers strive for the Audrey look. Givenchy and Hepburn collaboration in fashion is the best ever put onto celluloid. My other favourite looks are the ones Cecil Beaton created for her in My Fair Lady. Great video! X
R.I. P. Audrey and Hubert. To the star who I loved to watch & To The Fashion Designer who made her perfect in her own skin. Thank you both for making each collaboration on the dresses, icon.
@@Philscbx The film than introduced me to my love of Rome, and the magic of Hepburn. I'm still angry that she didn't renounce the throne and marry Gregory Peck! Anyone in today's "royal" family would have jumped at the chance!
No question in my mind, the Breakfast At Tiffany's dress is definitely the most iconic dress in the history of cinema. Then again, Audrey Hepburn could wear overalls and a baggy t shirt and she'd still be the classiest, most elegant creature on the planet.
Thank you so much. I heard about Audrey as a young boy, and never took interest back in the early 70s except for the tough male actors...and horror movies sort of thing. Now I am overwhelmed by her natural talent, looks, style, etc, wow what a star she was!!!!
I love Peter O’Toole’s line in “How to Steal a Million” when he is dressing Audrey’s character in an outfit for their heist. Something to the effect of, “Let’s give Givenchy a night off”. Epic.
The dialogues throughout are brilliant. It remains my favorite movie as it's the only one where my idols O'Toole and Hepburn came together. It's so dreamily romantic.
Love "Funny Face". Great romantic comedy musical. Fred Astaire sure knows how to impress the ladies with his dancing. And MY GOD, Audrey Hepburn is drop-dead gorgeous in those dresses!
just to be clear Givenchy designed ALL of Audrey's dresses in Sabrina. The studio didn't want to give anyone other than Edith Head a screen credit, which is why they made Audrey buy them herself - which *technically* wouldn't require a screen credit.
Not quite true. Audrey couldn't have affforded to buy all those couture costumes at that time when she was in her early twenties. Sabrina was only her second big role, and she wouldn't even have been called the star if Roman Holiday if Gregory Peck hadn't insisted she get top billing over him. When Hepburn returned from visiting Givenchy in Paris, what did she bring with her? "Did she bring actual clothes from Givenchy, or did she bring sketches?" Joe Maddalena, who found the famous Sabrina gown in a trunk (that was supposed to go to Goodwill after Debbie Reynolds' and Carrie Fisher's death) is firmly in Edith Head's camp on this. "I can see her looking at Givenchy's sketches and saying, 'OK,' and then creating her own interpretation." His argument is bolstered, by an examination of the actual dress, which was auctioned later. "A couture dress is completely finished on the inside," he notes. "Studio-created costumes are unfinished inside, so a costumer can quickly open and close them if needed on set. This dress is unfinished inside, and it's been stamped by Paramount's wardrobe department." IMO Givenchy would not have sold an unfinished dress. But I have read in several places that Audrey always made sure Givenchy got screen credit for any work he did on her movies after that. They were good friends.
He received a phone call from the movie Studio. They told him that he was needed to design dresses for Ms. Hepburn. She would be in to see him the next day. Kathryn Hepburn was who Givenchy thought was coming, he opened the door, and Audrey is there, dressed in black Capri slacks, and a black knit top. They hit it off instantly! He said he had no thanks me to make her the dresses she needed for Sabrina, but said to chose what she liked from last year's collection. She selected the black cocktail dress with the high neckline in front, two tiny bows at her shoulders, and a deep V cut in the back. The other dress was the White gown covered in embroidery of large black flowers. It had 2 silouettes, it was form-fitting in front, with a large full skirt in back. Then there was a simple, black suit. Story goes that he became friends instantly with her, and offered the 3 pieces from the previous years collection, but she gave him "some" money, no where near their true cost. They went to the premier of the movie together, and when they gave credit to E.Head, at the end, she was said to have been very upset. He took it in stride, He knew that they were his, as well as Audrey, So it didn't bother him. Both the epitome of understated Style, Class, and good taste! As for the "condition" Head knew what she had to do, to make them all look like Hollywood clothing! No way was that type of lavish Embroidery ever put on a movie dress; done by hand, it's too time consuming. And for a starlet, she would not have bothered.
Audrey Hepburn, Ciscely Tyson, Dianah Carroll, Leana Horne, Dorothy Dandridge, and Princess Grace of Monaco, are/were the Very Epitome of Class, Grace, Style and Beauty.
Anyone noticed that she always wore low heels and not those sky high stilettos that are mandatory today? A fashion icon in comfortable shoes! Way to go.
I loved her fashions in Funny Face, and the pink ensemble in Breakfast at Tiffanys is gorgeous. Her outfits in My Fair Lady are stunning and l have assembled one that is quite similar to the one where she sang, "l Could Have Danced All Night." She was a wonderful actress and a joy to behold. Personally l enjoyed Mickey Rooneys performance in Tiffanys.
I love the hot pink dress, pillow hats, all the pearls, the black hat with white scarf, (my favorite) and of course the black dress she wore at the window at Tiffany's. She was so chic and timeless elegant....
Givenchy made a perfume just for her, which she wore for many years. Years later, the scent was available at high end shops; a gorgeous, light floral-- L'Interdit, the Forbidden. It was taken off, then brought back, but it was no longer like the Original.l will never understand why they make changes to something that's already perfect!?
The number four dress is breath taking. She was beautiful. Also, Dorothy Dandridge and Elizabeth Taylor's gowns/ jewelry were so beautiful. Love the video 😍
Last year there was an exhibiion of her gowns here in the Netherlands, where she grew up. The one everyone ran to was of course the black dress of Breakfast at Tiffany's. It was guarded by big guys who looked at you like you were Pablo Escobar. But I got around them. I "somehow" dropped my purse and everything in it fell out. While I picked up everything off the floor, I touched that dress, and felt my soul go way up, all the way to Audrey. Every time I see that scene now at the beginning of Breakfast it's - yesssssss! I touched that dress!
She's one of the best Fashion Icon in Golden Age of Hollywood, She's one and only more than an Icon✨✨💕💕 I'm a biggest for 6 years until now!!🥰💕💕 She's such a Beautiful Actress, Elegance, Grace, Iconic, Kind, and Humanitarian Actress💕💕✨✨⭐
Can't believe they didn't talk more about How to steal a million, they literally reference givenchy in that movie and some of those pieces like the white dress suit are iconic
P.S. she also wore some fabulous 1960s fashions in the great romantic comedy.drama, "Two for the Road" with the great handsome British actor Albert Finney with whom she had a brief affair with. Those iconic fashions were by designer Poco Rabanne. And in that movie also starring a 23 year old Jacqueline Bisset, Audrey wears jeans with a red sweater which was kind of new compared to the old dark navy dungarees worn by some actresses in the 1950s movies...these were more straight legged and more faded/stone washed worn with sneakers. Other fashions included a mod print mini dress and a black vinyl pant suit ...very chic and mod looking! Thanks again for sharing... will never forget her, her spirit lives on!
My mother, who was also beautiful just loved the golden age and all that went with it. The scene in front of the window at Tiffany’s was definitely her style. The hat the pearls, my mother was as beautiful as her idols. This makes me miss her even more then usual
Thank you for this video. A Way to keep the icons alive and fresh in people's minds. I just love Audrey Hepburn such a wonderfully great personality and Givenchi did the best job! Good video! Congratulations. And cheers! 👍
RIP to both those greats. Former professional NYC fashion illustrator here and it was the designs of Givenchy for his muse the late great Audrey Hepburn. Edith Head designed all the fashions for the rest of the cast, but Audrey had insisted on the designs of best friend Givenchy for this film. Audrey's fashions inspired by Givenchy influences fashions to this day with capri pants/cropped pants and ballet flats. She also inspired the late great beautiful Jackie Kennedy with her iconic fashions. I have a photo of Jackie in the 1950s after she married JFK where she's wearing a similar Audrey outfit and holding the leash of her big black poodle with her hair cut short ala Audrey. Very similar to the scene from the classic Sabrina where Audrey returns from Paris with her short hair, white hat, black suit holding her black poodle by a leash! I'm sure Jackie saw that movie and obviously inspired her to have the same look gloves and all as well...Thanks for sharing....great job!
I met Audrey Hepburn about 30 -35 years ago (I don’t remember the exact year) LOL, when she came to visit the NICU at Rainbow Babies and Children. She was very thin and elegant and she spoke briefly to me about the babies (I was a nurse in the NICU). Something I will always remember.
Audrey Hepburn epitomises all that is great in this world when a person has poise grace humility respect charm natural beauty and sheer talent ! Family and caring for others was all she really loved ! She believed in working hard and received the appropriate accolades and legacy as a result. Truly missed. Never to be repeated. A true icon of the screen. A compassionate beautiful Lady! Rest In Peace Dear Audrey💕💞❤️
Great list!! They were the perfect pair. I do think Audrey Hepburn’s black lace dress and mask and the white skirt suit with oversized white sunglasses from How to Steal a Million should be on the list though
A year ago there was an exhibition in the Netherlands of the dresses by de Givenchy. The major dress in it was the one Audrey Hepburn wore- the black dress when Breakfast at Tiffany's start' s and she's eating a pretzel in front of Tiffany's. I touched it for a second ( it was't allowed, but.... you only get this chance once), and every time I hear Moon River I think of the time I got so close to this beautiful lady and how magnificent and unbelievable she was. It is a moment I will never forget.
The clothes in Charade are not the most dramatic, but they'll always be my favorite. AND your #1 (the FULL-length evening gown she wears in the opening scene of B@T's) is NOT a "little black dress'--but the one she wears to Sing-Sing is.
