Mel Gibson apparently hates the British and ascribes atrocities to them that were actually done by the Nazis. A little harsh, methinks.

I really don't like that watchmojo channel. They rush through stuff and never give any details or explanations. The fire of London started in a baker's oven in the early hours one morning in Pudding Lane. There is a very tall monument commemorating the event.

That bit about Henry the 8th was very odd. "He always remained true to his Catholic upbringing" they said, of the man who had 6 wives, killed 2 of them, told the Pope to get effed, and started his own religion.
@ah795u
@ah795u 5 месяцев назад
The church of England was independent Catholic during his reign. It only truly became protestant during the reign of his child and then moved back towards Catholicism under Elizabeth I until it became modern Anglicanism which is closer to Catholicism than most other forms of protestantism.

Henry was an incredibly complicated and impulsive man. He was still a devout catholic, while also being a terrible practitioner. Beliefs you hold and the actions you take do not always mirror one another, and this is a very extreme example. (not defending him or putting him on a pedestal, i hate this guy lol. just wanted to share a more nuanced take)

I would add 1772 to this when a british court determined that James Summerset an american slave was a free man and that only a new act of parlamanet could make slavery legal thus abolishing the practise in britian. Then adding to this 1807, the slave trade in the British Empire was abolished and the west african squadrom was created to blockade africa from anyone trying to bring slaves in or out as well as the blockage of brazil to force them to stop doing slavery. Seldom talked about amazing moments in british hitory and this is coming from an irish person who didnt grow up liking the british at all and still have strong opinions about the atrocities they commited haha, but fact is fact. Cromwell used to hang women as witches and massacred many irish people, thats why he has associations with the occult and evil especially around halloween which is actually an irish tradition in origin, we call it Samhain

The battle of Hastings took place in 1066. Not won by "France" that didn't exist in its actual form then: William the Conqueror was the Duke of Normandy and Normandy was not part of France at that time. Nor were Brittany, Anjou, Burgundy, Gascony or Aquitaine. Although they were duchies and not kingdoms, they were still separate states. It's therefore the Normans (originally Vikings from Scandinavia) who invaded England and imprinted their culture in England. Had it been France, the Brit's would be eating snails ! :o)))

They know exactly what cause the fire of London-a baker on Pudding Lane in the city left kindling to dry in the still warm bread oven when he left for the night- the kindling sprang back into flame and it started slowly from there, the door wouldn't have been on the oven (they were affixed by dough around the out side-so the flame could spread to the fabric of the building which was wood framed with a thatched roof-all wonderfully combustible materials. This is why after the fire buildings in London were made of brick and were no longer timber framed.

There were at least three Cromwells, Thomas worked for Henry Vlll as an advisor. Oliver Cromwell lead the Parliamentary Army against King Charles l, he was caught and beheaded. Oliver Cromwell became Lord Protector, his son Richard took over from him. Then King Charles ll returned. I think the US gave women the vote in the 1920s before Britain.

The Great Fire of London started in a bakery in Pudding Lane after midnight. Efforts to stop the fire by demolishing and removing surrounding buildings were delayed because the Lord Mayor did not want to take the decision, this resulted in much greater damage, although the number of deaths were low with most people having time to escape the fire but property damage was great. Also in 1920 women did not have to own property to vote, they had to occupy property which meant that they or their husband had to rent or own property with a certain fairly low taxable value. Women made up 39% of the electorate vs 53% of the adult population. It was also the first year that men got the vote without any property restrictions, previous restrictions meant that only 40% of men had the right to vote and the total number of people eligible to vote jumped from 8 million to 21 million.

ha ha - yeah why was the video not in chronological order? I agree, I honestly think humans have actually stood still - in terms of things that would actually make life on this planet the paradise it really could be - ie eliminating war, violence, poverty etc but the crazy thing is we actually could do all this tomorrow if we really wanted to we absolutely have the means but we choose not to. The great fire of London was caused by a fire that started in a Bakery owned by Thomas Farriner in Pudding Lane, which spread quickly.

Oliver Cromwell is the most hated person in Irish history. . He killed the population of whole towns and forced people off the good land in the east of the country to either die or move to the hard stony barren land in the west. He then gave the good land to his friends and followers.The general poverty that followed led to the famines of the 17th, 18th and, especially the 19th centuries. He also waged war on his own compatriots in England, Scotland and Wales. So he was a very important historical figure.
@ah795u

The Glorious 'Revolution' (when the Dutch price William chased out the king with 60.000 troops and became king) was much more important to give the British democratic rights. The American Revolution wasn't very important to the UK at the time compared to the wars they experienced at home. They just started sending unwanted people to Australia. The army at Waterloo very much wasn't Wellington's. The Brits supplied about 25% of the troops, the Prussians supplied 50%. There was a big fight if Wellington or the Prince of Orange would lead the part of the army (less than 50% of the whole) that Wellington got to command. It's just Brits spreading false history for centuries.
