Let's take a stroll down memory lane and revisit some of the cards that have helped shape the history of the Digimon TCG, Past, Present, and Future! I have a Discord now! stop in and say Hi!! / discord
Another I would personally mention is BT10's Shoutmon X4, which basically turned Xros Heart into the best deck in the format almost single-handedly, due to its ridiculously combination of aggression through rush, a powerful draw engine, and the ability to extend your plays via refreshing your tamers. It got limited to 1 for a _very_ good reason, and the BT11/12 Xros Heart support would make X4 impossible to unlimit for a long while.
For me an honorable mention has to be Beelstarmon BT6 or Calling from the Darkness. Despite being 7 sets since release we see Beelstarmon pop up time to time because of how far ahead she was. And we'll likely never get a slew of 7 cost options for awhile. Unless her recent sleeves announcement leads to actual Musketeer support. But also surprised calling from the darkness never took off harder. It certainly made a splash when Eyesmon was unrestricted. And its not like purple was completely dominating since its release. But I can't help but think that card restricted purple design behind the scenes for a while. Just an insane enabler.
@Bob Duckington completely agree, and I was shocked they moved to limit it rather than give it the errata to course correct to what imho seemed like the very obvious intention for the effect. Card still might have been too good, but that woulda been my choice before hitting it 🤷♂️
This video was so informative and well done. I wish the digimon tcg would pick up more steam in the US so content creators like you can get more love. There are awful content creators for pokemon TCG/YGO and even OCGs like Hearthstone that get viewership in the millions day 1 sometimes and i cant even get through 2 minutes of the video. Just people screaming into the cameras from beginning to end with their fake reactions lol. It's nice to sit and listen to some information sometimes
I'm not sure where I would put it on the list bt omnimon zwart defeats release was when people realized how problematic tamers could be and how good a of a removal effect tamer removal could be. Its fallen out of favour now since there are alot more cards with tamer removal but it was among the first. It being a really good security digimon that turned the tides of games was just a bonus
Considering how wide spread the Memory Boost series of option cards is, to the point of archetype specific memory boosts, and the introduction of the training options, they should have at least been an honorable mention
Agree 100%! At the time of the video the training cards hadnt been released yet. I feel like the mem boosts belong in a list of cycles that changed the game rather than single cards, right alongside the hybrids 😅
@@AvidHerpetologist lol For some reason, online, it's the deck I've gone up against the most due to the support the deck received from the structure and bt12 The deck has a full X-Antibody line, but it plays, like, what? 1 copy of X-Antibody BT9-109 at most?
@Joe Heits, Lv.100 yep, if that. At the time of the vid I honestly expected it to play more, but the deck just has so much redundancy in it's ability to cheat digivolution and tutor its' pieces it just doesnt need outside help 😅
A great card! But it never really had a massive impact on the game itself. It could have / was going to, but at least in the tcg it never really reached "break the game" status like for instance HPD did
@kingry3 i knoooow Lilith loop existed, but unless Im misinformed (which is absolutely possible) MDF was banned more because of it restricting future design space rather than it being overly dominant in the meta. Please do correct me if im wrong, thats just how it was explained to me
@@AvidHerpetologist that's pretty much it. I also remember that they said it would make susanoomon too broken, i mean a gaia force and 3 checks essentially for free as well. It would have turned it an easy to pull off otk deck at the time.
I personally would have included machinedramon from ex1. Simply because of how relevant the card still is in todays meta. There is always at least 1 machinedramon deck in all the top tier tournaments. Even when the metal boi doesn't get support or the meta is not relevant to him he still finds ways to top. Not to mention how most support it gets is not even support directed at him. It just so happens that lvl 5 cyborgs get added for other decks and he yoinks them for himself.
It did not have a messy launch. If you call people not preordering that’s not a messy launch. Davis was used not just for consistency but for the ability to use blue or blue/green options like Megadeath or Sourai.
Oh the game absolutely had a messy launch. Due to the pandemic product was EXTREMELY scarce for many months after the initial release, not even mentioning the weird amalgamations we got for sets 1-3 being oddly mashed together collections of cards from the Japanese sets 1-3. That last part isnt really a problem in any way, but was definately weird and something I personally havent experienced with other card games, though I'm sure it has happened elsewhere and may be normal to some people.
thats not how blitz works. omnimon doesnt attack on after the turn passes over. turn only passes over after all effects and attacks have been fully resolved. blitz just lets you declare an attack by effect after the memory passes over 0. ffs. ppl like you spreading false information are why there are so many ppl that dont get the basic mechanics of how the game works.
Kinda rude, I apologize if my wording wasn't clear. Blitz is a weird mechanic that lets you declare an attack at the time the effect activates, regardless of if you passed your opponent enough memory to pass turn. With some weird exceptions highlighted by BT11 Machinedramon and AHMD, but generally in regards to Blitz Omni it doesnt get that complicated. I tried to use terminology that would be easy to grasp by people who dont play at a super competetive level. While my terms may have been a bit muddied I don't think the reaction was entirely warranted. The way I describe the interraction doesn't misconstrue how the interaction is working.
