Tom cruise should have been on this list the amount of training and skills he learns for his movies to make the performance even better is unmatched just look at what he did for mission Impossible fallout
There are so many talented natural actors, and there is Day-Lewis. He is in a league of his own. The man is not acting - he becomes the persona. It's actually amazing to watch him.
Agreed! Since you seem into classic actors. I'd have to include Jeffrey Rush, Russell Crow,e and Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton as my top ten. Cheers from Hong Kong
Jack Palance. You don't get much more intense than Jack, even in terrible movies like the disco sword and sorcery flick Hawk the Slayer his performance still goes to 11.
And Justice For All, Scent of a Woman: yeah, they really missed the mark not even giving Pacino an honorable mention. Heath Ledger too. How about Tom Hanks? It's pretty intense to be able to go from Bachelor Party, Toy Story, Forest Gump and A League of Their Own to Saving Private Ryan and Castaway. This list sucks!
Don't know whose definition of 'intense' they are using but Samuel L. Jackson is the first name that pops into my mind as well as the very much underrated Michael Shannon whose face alone screams intensity.
Marlon Brando for heaven sake, living in a wheelchair for The Men, shivering on a block of ice for Mutiny on the Bounty, spilling his guts for The Last Tango in Paris . . .
Kirk Douglas brought passion to all his roles . His portrayal of Vincent Van Gogh moving from a fragile human being to an artistic genius to madmen has moments so intense they are hard to watch.
The youthful demographics for watchmojo skew the range of actors. Looks like you've needed to be acting in the last 30 years. I'm guessing that if Robert Dinero wasn't still an actor he would not have made the list. same goes for Sly.
Gary Oldman. I was so sure he would be in the top 5. Never seen him in Leon? Scarlet letter? Dracula? His whole beeing is intense, even his coworkers call him extremly intense on set.
Totally agree Mate . Not only Gary Oldman but also Al pacino and Jack nicholson are missing and there is Sly Stallone in honourable mentions i mean seriously ? Kill me!!!
Hey cloud. I thought it was just me who thought that. It was so distracting during the movie. Nobody around me so though. They said Dick. I said he looked like he should be in a 10th installment of a National Lapoon's movie
Actors deserving honourable mentions: - Meryl Streep (She dons the character like no one else) - Marlon Brando (Cannot give a bad performance) - Al Pacino (Gives everything it takes) - Samuel L. Jackson (Brings intensity subtly to the screen)
I don’t think Tilda Swinton is underrated. I think we are all aware how dope she is. (On a side note a teacher of mine made 2 or 3 movies with Swinton and says she is a lovely and delightful woman) Toni Collete is mad underrated. Hereditary is terrifying because of Her!
Tom cruise should have been on this list the amount of training and skills he learns for his movies to make the performance even better is unmatched just look at what he did for mission Impossible fallout
Perhaps Tom Cruise is not in this list because he has been focusing more on action than drama films, but he is intense in ALL his films and DOES deserve to be in this list too.
He’s not on the list because he’s also a psychopath. They just do t want to deal with all his baggage and bizarre opinions, and bad press he brings everytime he opens his mouth. He is a beast actor tho def should be on a non bias list. I personally can’t stand the guy as a real person but the characters he plays are bad ass.
Jack Nicholson's is the only one that really made me believe joker was insane. Heaths was by far the most powerful but I picked up more of an explosive anarchist drive. Vs being actually clinically insane Heaths was methodical and sadistic. Nicholson's was random and strange
Anyone who doubts how brilliant an actor Nic Cage is capable of being just watch him in Leaving Las Vegas. In the top 20 performances by an actor of all time imo.
Val Kilmer, Johnny Depp, Antony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, Kurt Russel, Jim Stewart, Madeline Stow Mary Elizabeth Masterantonio, Mary Stuart Masterson, Angelica Houston,
I think this list needs to expand this list to top 20 or 25. Too many left off, and a few rated to high. I would add Pacino, Oldman, Brando, Ledger, Samuel Jackson, Nicholson and Naomi Watts. Watts performance in Mulholland Drive rivals Theron's in Monster as two of the best performances I have seen on film.
De Niro befriended steel workers and visited their homes for Deer Hunter. He learned the saxophone for 3 months for authenticity when playing in New York New York. He started stalking and pestering his own stalkers like his character was in King of Comedy. He watched neurologists perform brain surgery for Brazil.
When I watched "Monster", I realized Aileen Wuornos was played by Charlize Theron only when I read the final credits. I couldn't believe it!!! The characterization and the acting was just flawless. Great actress!
He is a very good method actor. I didn't know Angelina hated that role in that movie you said. I'm sure she must be annoyed that Brad has a thing with Emily Ratajokwski.
All these choices are top notch! Brad Dourif playing Billy Bibbit in "One Few Over the Coocoo's Nest" and playing Doc in "Deadwood" should get an honorable mention at least.
I remember Mickey Rourke saying he was always extremely exhausted after a day on the set of Angel Heart because Robert De Niro was so intense and perfect it gave him anxiety
you forgot Al Pacino - Sean Penn - Jack Nicholson - Tom Hardy - James MacAvoy - Denzel Washington - Robert Downey Jr. - Ian McKellen - Anthony Hopkins - Gary Oldman - Samuel L. Jackson - Tom Cruise - Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Dustin Hoffman - Ralph Fiennes - Michael Fassbender - Cillian Murphy - Michael Shannon - Michael Stuhlbarg - Josh Brolin - Sean Harris - Evan Peters - David Tennant - Michael Sheen - Michael Keaton - Vincent D'Onofrio - Rami Malek - Edward Norton - Meryl Streep - Glenn Close - Jennifer Lawrence - Helen Mirren - Judi Dench - Saoirse Ronan - Chloë Grace Moretz - Helena Bonham-Carter - Cate Blanchett - Natalie Portman - Sarah Paulson - Cynthia Erivo - Angela Bassett - Chloë Sevigny - Halle Berry - Michelle Yeoh - Zoe Saldana - Alison Pill - Olivia Colman - Emma Stone - Lady Gaga - Hilary Swank - < I could go on and on... maybe your definition of "intense" is flawed (or mine)... a Top 10 is definitely too limited ;-)
Alot of people give Tom cruise shit for some reason but pretty much every single movie he Is in is both memorable and good. Some of the craziest shit you see in those movies stuntwise is all done by him too. The craziest being the spy movie with cameron diez. He literally wheelied a motorcycle down tight ass Venice streets with real Cameron on the back.
intense actors list: Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee, Gary Oldman, Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Robert Englund, Jason Statham, Kane Hodder, jet li, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Cynthia Rothrock,
10:00 In 87, Huey released this , For!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is.. Hip to be square a song so catchy ,most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should because its not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends ,its also a personal statement about the band itself.
Man, I don't know many people that have seen, or are willing to watch There Will Be Blood. My hat has been tipped since it came out. Absolutely amazing. Not to mention the Butcher from gangs of new York.
If you wanted a comedy actor to be on there they should have chosen Sacha Baron Cohen who has done so many insane projects and gotten so many people to hate him.
Msmojo I would love to see your pro and contra list which lead to your very bold decision to chose Lewis over Bale. I couldn’t have done this. Both a incredible actors
What about Tony Todd who played the Candyman and the mortician in the Final Destination movies? Or Heath Ledger? Or hell even Robert England as Freddy Krueger. Not to mention Anthony Hopkins. This list is missing so many people!
In my opinion Daniel Day-Lewis is the best actor of all times. His roles are always perfect in every detail. But as Daniel Day-Lewis is retired I think that the best actor still performing is Christoph Waltz. His performances in Inglorious Bastards and Django were amazing. I think he should be mentioned here at least at the second place
So many more. In no particular order: Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, Bette Davis, Jodie Foster, Frances McDormand, Viola Davis, Judi Dench, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Dustin Hoffman, Gary Oldman, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Peter Stormare,...
How an actor of diminutive stature like Alfredo James Pacino can command such screen presence but was left out of this list is beyond me. The man exudes intensity. Also want to give a nod to Sir Anthony Hopkins though I imagine his understated style was perhaps not what you were shooting for with the understanding of intensity here? Lastly I do want to also give an honorable mention to Ken Watanbe, Samuel Jackson and Edward Norton.
The fact Robert De Niro can play an absolutely fabulous, cross-dressing pirate captain in "Stardust" and then just brush it off like a bit of lint on his lapel speaks volumes about his unimpeachable intensity, dedication, and method.
It really is hard to make any list of less than 25... Robin Williams, Russel Crowe, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Kathy Bates, Michael Keaton, Liam Neeson, Julia Roberts, John Cusak, Ryan Reynolds, Matt Damon, Samuel L. Jackson, Morgan Freeman, Forest Witaker, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Steve Martin... That's just a quick brainstorm and I know I've missed many more.
Mmmm...Maybe you forgot about Klaus Kinski ? Well, he might not have deserved being simply classified "Intense", rather "Psychotically out of his mind, a tortured, mean human being". But the performances, I mean...
Marlon Brando, philip seymour, S. Jackson, Al Pacino, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Chrishtop Waltz, Jonny Depp, Colin Firth, Jack Nicholson, Anthony Hopkins, Nick Nolte, Tom Hardy, Matthew McConaughey, R D Junior, ED Harris, Rami Malek....
honorable mention to andrew garfield as well. he went on a silent retreat in a jesuit center and starved himself of both food and sex for 6 months in preparation for his role in martin scorsese's 'silence'
