Well put together video. I had the pleasure to own ATI 4870, back in 2009, and I do attest to its great value/performance.

It's literally just whatever is in most people's prebuilts and laptops most commonly. The vast, VAAAST majority of users don't actually build their own PCs. And they also tend to go for the cheapest prebuilt they possibly can get away with. Or their parents typically go with whatever's packing the most punch for the like $500-800 range for a school laptop. So this is literally the reason why all those keep getting listed. It has fucking nothing to do with quality. Also find it interesting when you consider there was a 6gb and a 3gb cut down model with different silicon iirc on the 1060 so which is it? The 3 or 6gb VRAM model? So the ultimate outcome is, you pretty much hide the real quality by simply drowning people in crap prebuilts. It's the same reason why the 3060 is going to be on there. The 4060 will too, despite the fact the 4060 is hot fucking garbage. Because the 4060 is what'll be listed for both laptop and desktop despite being two different cards, and it'll be mass produced like always, it'll sit on Walmart shelves like always, and ignorant boomers will buy it on credit like always. When fact is anyone who was actually building the thing was buying things like 1070, 1070ti, 1080ti, but it'll be the same story as usual people in 2020 will be said to be building with 3060's and 3060ti, regardless that's not what a lot of people actually built (like a fuckton of 3080 and 6800XT was what went in custom machines as well as fucktons of 6600, 6650XT, and 6600XT in the custom builds). It's also one of the reasons quadcores was so popular. And partly the reason for 1080p, everyone who's building machines already upgraded to 1440p if not 4k even, all the 1080p shit also included all the laptops that are basically 1080p by default even including the newer ones, a brand new laptop has a 165hz or 144hz 1080p panel even if it got a RTX 4060m in it. I wish people would stop trying to use Steam survey. It really means fuckall ultimately in terms of actual popularity or in terms of quality. If you simply dropped even just laptops by themselves you'd be getting very different numbers.

@@drek9k2 There should be separate categories for built & prebuilt computers. Steam not having a way to tell how they came up with the data or differentiate shows they don't know what they're doing.

I was frickin' pumped when you showed the MSI GTX 960, because I had the exact same card! When I had my first Gaming PC in 2017, I had originally an EVGA GTX 960 and ran it 2 years until my Motherboard gave up. I returned slowing in mid 2020 and was running an MSI GTX 960 until 2023. Didn't die, just upgraded. Guess I really had my fair share of the GTX 960's. Last year I Upgraded to an ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 3060 Ti OC and ran it a couple of months until November 23' (I knew it was short and could of ran it much longer, but I had some big plans). Finally got me a EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra and I am very happy. Long adventure but it was memorable and amazing. I knew I went a little off, but all Is to say that I love the GTX 960 and will be forever a fan. Side note...You did a great job on this video. Small channel, but so much potential!

The data claiming the 1060 was the most used is misleading! In other countries people use the shops computers! So you get multiple sign in on a single card

I highly doubt that the same machine would be registered twice in Steam Survey. Even if Steam Survey data isn't perfect, GTX 1060 was definitely the most popular. It simply had a lot of stuff going for it: Good performance, disappointing successor, and last but not the least the shortage. Hell, nVidia even re-released it during the shortage.

Jesus why was the GTX 760 such complete hot ass?? Same kinda goes for the 1050ti quite frankly. I thought that was a stronger card what an absolute piece of shit that was. Better off just getting the older 960 at that point since the 1050ti also had a crippled VRAM 2gb variant didn't it? The 760 was fucking trash. Can barely even compete with the 660. I find it amazing how people insisted on getting shit 50 and 60 cards from memevidia time and time again, and yet of all the cards on this list the RX 580 is clearly one of the best, and it has the best VRAM of all them making it literally the only GPU on that entire list that's still a valid choice for 1080p gaming to this very day, unless you count the 1060 6gb. I mean you *could* do 4gb, it's just not really gonna get you that far, at that point you're going to bottleneck the VRAM before the processor. Watching a 1650 lose that hard to it is miserable. Two years later, half the VRAM, is still too expensive which is sad af because that's a "cheap" GPU now. Personally I think the 5700XT and 6600 or 6600XT are going to be on there this time, or ought to. The 5700XT except for the VRAM is in an excellent spot for becoming the budget option goto. Depending where the 6600XT or 6650XT land in price anyway. Very, very meh about the 7600XT. The alleged "4060" sucks donkey balls but the "4060ti" is so much worse. And God $500 five hundred fucking dollars you know, that's how much the 2070 Super cost and it was still too expensive back then.
