I remember when Kim Jonghyun passed away like it was yesterday. I cried for days and lost sleep over it. Jonghyun was the definition of raw talent, he could have gone so far even without SHINee. The friendship between him and the other members was so strong and natural that it was hard not to fall for them. They weren’t band mates, they were brothers. Jonghyun was the epitome of joy and light; his nickname of “Bling-Bling” was fitting. But then when Sulli died it was like the wound opening again. I initially though it was the grief of Jonghyun’s passing that tipped her over, seeing how close they were. But this makes it even more tragic. I was lucky enough to see them both at SMTown NYC back in 2011, and I’ll cherish that memory forever.

Don't hate me MsMojo viewers. I think it's extremely remiss not to mention that Sulli's best friend Goo Hara committed suicide just six weeks after Sulli took her own life, after expressing her devastation and difficulty living on without her person, Sulli. This is relevant because Hara attributed Sulli's friendship to helping her find the will to go on after Hara's failed suicide attempt, just a few months before Sulli took her own life. Goo Hara was a fellow idol (fmr member of KARA) and had also faced online bullying and harassment. She was also involved in a scandal which is believed to have contributed to her previous suicide attempt, involving her ex, blackmail and revenge porn. Sulli and Hara are just one example (they ran in the same tight knit hated-friend group) of Kpop idols who are held to impossible standards and vilified by the S.Korean media and the toxic side of Kpop fandom. Something as simple as wearing no bra (even at home, with tiny bitties), or not smiling for a moment during an hours long media panel/meet and greet, or forgetting to use honorifics for one second, can DESTROY an idol's entire life and career. It is a toxic practice across S.Korean celebritidom, but it's especially rampant in the Kpop universe. Social media K entertainment 'news' outlets and social media influencers ,and channels on platforms like YT that are chomping at the bit for clicks, racing to post the latest 'breaking scandal', 'newest rumour' or 'hottest tea' without taking a breath to do even the minimum of research and fact checking add to the problem and fan the flames of toxic stans, antis and proffessional evil netizens, who thrive off ruining lives from behind their keypads. It's a real problem and it can begin to be solved by fans, stans and regular degular non-fans (Like myself-just a mom), who are willing to step up and say something when they see something. Fake news? Speak up. Uncalled for insults, or bullying? Speak up. Soompi-like article full of career ending lies and speculation? Speak up. See a site, influencer or channel that promotes misinformation or hate? Speak up and unsubscribe. We aren't police, or even internet police, but we ALL have a voice. You have one? Use it. MsMojo isn't malicious and isn't the target of my ire, but like I've said, the channel can do better. No shade, no tea this time, just cold hard facts. Channels like MsMojo might not be the wort offenders or integral parts of the toxic machine, but they CAN be part of the solution. Ball's in their court.

I’m surprised the Steven Yoo scandal wasn’t on the list! For those who don’t know, he was a Korean American singer who was famous in the late 90s and early 2000s until he evaded military duty by giving up his Korean citizenship despite claiming he’d proudly serve. He’s (to my understanding) the only person barred from entering South Korea as a result. He was so crazy talented, and the fact that he’s not allowed into Korea really shows how bad it was.

@gillianm7415
@gillianm7415 Год назад
I remember the T-ara bullying scandal. It was pretty bad, but I have a few theories what made them choose the AOA scandal over T-ara's: 1. T-ara continued comebacks after the scandal (not as successful as they were before hand, but they had continued) while AOA hasn't had a comeback since. 2) the severity of the allegations Mina made (her s**cide attempt) caused more of an uproar, especially since this happened after Sulli and Goo Hara's passing. 3) Cancel culture had been at large at the time and how quick everyone was to cancel Jimin, that she was forced to leave the industry pretty quickly. 4) This scandal went on for quite awhile. While the initial story went by so fast, Mina kept pushing and pushing her agenda of Jimin bullying and her mental health concerns for much longer than needed, that the whole narrative took a turn and the public then realized that maybe they had jumped gun on this and turned on her. Those are just a couple of reasons I think why they chose AOA, but I do feel like T-ara definitely should have gotten a dishonorable mention
@gillianm7415
@gillianm7415 Год назад
@@yukijames1321 I guess that is true - T-ara was at the top of their game when it happened while AOA had declined a little bit after Choa left. But I saw AOA resurging more after their appearance on Queendom (especially when a lot of the other artists on the show were getting more attention after the show). Honestly, who knows if they would've been able to peak again after Queendom, since they only got one comeback before the scandal started and that was their last one.

@@tangerineYT Possible but to be fair there are plenty of people can have gut feelings about others or may not gravitate towards a member of a group/actor/actress etc as some people are better than others at reading people and seeing fakeness (or not overlooking red flag or fake behaviors). I've seen cases in different set of fans where concerning behaviors are flat out ignored. To express that, especially if the person is well liked/popular and/or has stans, often is meant with ridicule, disdain and accusations (you're being jealous) etc. Even when they have horrible scandals or criminal behavior to their name. Sadly some people do end up dead or hurt severely because they ignored that gut feeling, particularly when they don't know why they're having a gut feeling, especially since women in many cultures/regions are told to be nice towards men otherwise she's a xyz (sometimes this includes slurs) and sometimes women try to be nice as a defense since some men will use violence as a response to rejection but this can also backfire.
@tangerineYT
@tangerineYT Год назад
@@itazuranakisu A red flag and a gut feeling are two different things. If someone lashes out at everybody or constantly excuses crimes, that's a red flag. A gut feeling is just them sitting and minding their own business yet they're perceived as "creepy" or "harmful"-- which is a vast majority of the time just because of how he looks. That is true that some people are very good at reading others, but this person isn't one of them. Clearly they're wrong: every last trial proves nothing but Seungri's innocence yet she claims that she "always knew"? Always knew what, that he gambled in Las Vegas, perhaps? Anybody who swears they always knew someone was evil or a threat (especially in Kpop) is usually only saying it to get brownie points, because basically _every_ single time, they're wrong, and that person's actually innocent or good. So I don't really trust people who say these things.

MsMojo isn't so great at framing things, or getting to the meat (time crunch I guess), so let me spill the real hot, HOT tea on Sh#rp. Seo Ji Young's rich father spent a bag setting up a music company for the sole purpose of making his daughter's dream of being a pop star true. Despite hiring one of the bes writer producers in the industry, the group didn't do well because Ji Young and her cronies fronting as group mates weren't exactly 'natural talents'. So Lee Ji Hye was recruited to be the new lead singer, which infuriated Ji Young. Daddy's money should mean Jo Young gets to be the Beyonce, so Ji Hye was tormented by all the members from the beginning, at Ji Young's behest. Ji Young's rage was doubled when the group skyrocketed to fame as a result of Ji Hye's lead vocal position. The bullying wasn't just verbal either, it was physical and it was constant, on and off stage. One of the most infamous incidents, aside from the fed up manager going off script and outing the bullying instead of trashing Ji Hye at a press conference (in compilation above), was when Jo Young was ultimately (and some would say inevitably) hospitalized and Seo Ji Young showed up to her bedside, with her crew in tow, to personally deliver a bouquet of white chrysanthemums (flowers soley used for funerals/the dead in S.Korea) and to deliver a verbal message to Jo Young in personal as well, which was for Ji Hye to go die already. There is literal video footage of Ji Young bringing the funeral arrangement bouquet out in the interwebs if anyone wants to find it. At the time, Ji Young pretended not to know the meaning of the flowers (You know, the ones even 3 year old S.Korean children know about,) claiming she was trying to show love and support for her band member. Ji Young's dad's money and power was able to effectively quash the story in the media and any prevent any legal consequences for his baby girl, but the damage was done to Sh#rp's career trajectory and all the members pretty much fell in to obscurity, including the victim, who didn't publicly name names for decades! Now here's a glass of cold water to cool you down from all that free hot tea

So, in Korea, you get a lighter sentence for committing a crime that put other people at risk, while a heavier sentence is given to those convicted of drug use when the only person harmed in this crime is the drug user himself. Seungri got three years and later on reduced to 1.5 years while others who were arrested for doping got four to three years. Does this mean that they take drug cases more seriously than prostituting women and distributing drugs?

I hadn't finished the list when I posted, so I've got another bit to share. The Burning Sun Scandal the Seungri was sentenced to 18 months in jail for is 'connected' to the s*xual assa*lt and video sharing scandal, but he wasn't an active member (never committed assault or made recordings). He definitely knew about them though, as seen in Jung Joon Young's text exchanged made public by Dispatch. Seungri's crimes are procuring prostitutes for the rich and powerful people he does business. He's long been known as "The CEO" by Big Bang Members and they've made 'joking' comments on tv shows about his ties to shady, dangerous people. He is the youngest member, but he's also a seriou business man, famous for ties to international and domestic gangsters, like Triad members and Yakuza. His underworld business ties were a public secret among media and fans alike. Jung Joon Joung's connection to all this, is that Seungri's text discussions about hiring hookers for Chinese 'Business men", was the break detectives needed in their investigations in to Seungri's dirty dealings, which began with some sketchy and violent behaviour going down at his night club "Burning Sun" -Hence the name of the scandal! His sister 'ran' the club and she wasn't shy to sick security on anyone who pissed her off. There's video of a beat down that began the evidence gather Police were already collecting to take Seungri down. Ultimately, Seungri was not prosecuted in relation to the Joon Young group of monsters. He was prosecuted and convicted in a seperate set of allegations, in a separate case. Seungri still committed trash behaviour and he still got off with a slap on the wrist and all his wealth in tact, but the video above is pretty vague and heavily misinformed (on both cases), so I wanted to add some info for anyone genuinely interested beyond, "Oh, that's on a list.". The victims deserve more justice than was served, on all counts. Also, the video of the Joon Young group includes images of another idol who was in the chats, but was ultimately found to no be actively involved or guilty of any chargeable offences. I won't say the name 'it could be counterproductive here in the quick trigger, evil netizen-filled netiverse, but I will say, due diligence in spreading legal matters is important. Especially when it comes to an industry where even an unfounded accusation can ruin a career and a life. There are too many idols and Kcelebs who were driven to take their own lives because of misinformation, including 'lists' about scandals and rumours etc...I don't believe MsMojo creates with malice, but this isn't the first, or twentieth video with misinformation, harmful rumours, vague or unfounded accusations. Mind you, it's not the worst either, but it is an issue that is EASILY fixed. There's a time crunch, so I get condensed info, like the Sh#rp scandal, but when important info is missing or wrong, to a detriment, that's a problem. #factsmatter

I was so angry that YG did NOTHING to protect her when she did nothing wrong! She was in the US when she was prescribed medication and brought them to Korrea not knowing it was illegal there but not in the US. The hater got a hold of the news and twisted to make it seem like she was a drug trafficking. These dumb Kpop haters don't know the difference between drug dealing and being prescribed legal medication 🤦🏻

As an outsider to K-pop but someone who likes quite a few songs, it seems like the pressure to be perfect on the performers, especially for women, is just this side of catastrophic. I know it’s a cultural thing but why can’t idols date openly? Why can’t they be cranky? Everyone has a bad day. Why do they have to import amphetamines just to keep to an unhealthy weight? It seems like K-pop is based quite heavily on US black culture but would a Lizzo ever get famous in Korea? Lil Nas X? Billie Eilish? Even Beyoncé, who’s traditionally GORGEOUS, wouldn’t meet the impossible body standards of K-pop. I hope these loosen up in the future and all types are welcomed.

Women should not fall for the world's deception because it is all a trap of the devil. The Korean state must act fully to protect the rights of Korean women. The country's self-esteem must not be lost to a handful of demons who damage the country's good name. Korea is a country that has a good name in the world, but after this incident, law enforcement is very weak there, even the Korean government and the entertainment world have not taken firm action to maintain the good fortune of the country.

At least half of these wouldn't even be scandals if K-Pop fans could just relax and stop treating these performers like they're squeaky-clean, flawless automatons whose sole reason for existing is to feed their personal fantasies and harems of delusion. These performers are PEOPLE. They might work as world-famous entertainers, but they still have to live their lives LIKE PEOPLE DO. 🫒

Though I get where you are coming from and basically agree, I will say it's hard for that to happen when that is literally how these companies present kpop "idols" to the fans in the first place. From how they are called "idols" to the restrictions on speech and actions set by the companies to even what they learn during their trainee period on how to behave and treat fans and even so far as idols learning how to do aegyo and lots of skinship and portrayal of pseudo innocence off stage on Vlives and fan meets
@MarquisDeSacks
@MarquisDeSacks Год назад
@@flovonnejohnson707 You make a great point and that is certainly the other most crucial aspect of the problem. To argue about which side, the companies or the fans, started this in the first place and just a chicken and the egg debate. Both can definitely shoulder some culpability on this one, I think.
