"Waiting for a Star to Fall" by Boy Meets Girl is probably overlooked due to the pair's other big songs. Oh, not for themselves, but for Whitney Houston: "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)." They offered "Waiting" to Clive Davis for Whitney's sophomore album but he turned it down (which actually led to "I Wanna Dance" getting written and recorded) and then they offered it to Belinda Carlisle who did record it (story goes, though, that Carlisle wasn't really happy with the song so she didn't include it on the "Heaven on Earth" album). After those two strikes, the pair decided to record it themselves.
@raymondtitano3819
@raymondtitano3819 Год назад
The demo version of I Wanna Dance sounds like a finished production, the kind of track you could easily picture Jody Watley, Taylor Dayne or Gloria Estefan recording and possibly having a decent-size hit with. It makes sense that Houston would take a already-solid song and make it preternatural. (As a testament to how good the song is, find David Byrne's cover of it, and listen to how he rearranges it without diluting its character.)

While I may not remember all the songs on this list, I appreciate all I do. Especially the #1. I’m a huge fan of Tears for Fears. I’m actually surprised the Flock of Seagulls song is on the list. I remember everyone loving that song.

Didn't expect to see Missing Persons on here. Bravo. Even if it is only in the mentions. You wanna know a real underappreciated 80s band? Neil Finn's first band, Split Enz. Their songs One Step Ahead and Poor Boy amoung others are every bit as good as a lennon/mcartney production.

I'd have to say that the list was 50/50 underappreciated and forgotten for a reason. This category is worth exploring again. The 80's had so many creative minor hits that were underappreciated that you could do this several more times.

You list these songs as 10 most underappreciated, and you include "Waiting For A Star To Fall," "Gloria," "I Ran (So Far Away)," and "Don't Dram It's Over." These were big hits that are still played today, especially the last two, so they're definitely not underappreciated. Ditto for "I Can Dream About You" and "Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run" in the Honorable Mentions category.
