While I appreciate this back down memory lane journey of the SATC series, it seems like a lot of Monday Morning Quarterbacking. I don't look at these as "unforgiveable" b/c it was a different time. Think of how much we have grown since then. It is easy to look back on something YEARS later and see the faults but you gotta give it to this show for AT LEAST having 9 of these on TV in the first place. Actually looking at this list helps me appreciate the fact that we are even talking about them in the first place.♥
@@VayKaeBae I didn’t mind killing off Big tbh. These people needed something “non-Fairy Tale-ish” to happen to then do it made it a bit more relatable IMO.
@@A22DNAL true but I don’t like that they are pushing her back with Aiden which Carrie for real didn’t like for real. I think she liked how he treated her but he was too nice to her. Her romantic chemistry was with Big.
She actually wouldn't do well in our current society because, while she was the most open to anything among them, she always said what she felt like saying. Also, they respected her in the end because she was no pushover. People say things that aren't apart of their dna. Maybe watch some shows of the 70s like All in the Family or The Jeffersons.
Now that I have gotten older I realize that Carrie was super toxic and just problematic. Aidan deserved way better she was so selfish. Big was toxic too and seemed to always be emotionally unavailable.. the disability thing and phobias were definitely disrespectful in the show. Total cringe. Samantha will forever be iconic
I remember back when SATC originally aired and a friend who was a huge fan of the show finally convinced me to watch a few episodes and give it a chance. I watched 3 or 4 episodes with her, and they happened to be during Big's marriage to Natasha, including the episode when Carrie got caught by Natasha in their house. My friend was a huge Carrie fan, but I kept turning to her and asking, "She's your favorite? Why???" And the most unforgivable part of the new show is NOT the vibe being thrown off by Samantha's absence, but the way they portray the back story as Samantha was just a bad friend. She was the best friend to the other ladies despite how crappy they often were to her!
@@wanderer7956 She was the most transparent and didn't pretend to be anything but what and how she truly was. She was unapologetic about being sexual, and she was realistic about relationships and marriage. I refuse to watch the new one without her - she's the best thing about SATC!!!!
because it's politically correct for Miranda to have an affair with a woman... criticising it would be considered homophobic in today's society... that's also why her friend didn't make a deal of her cheating on Steve...
I consider myself as somewhat liberal but the wokeness of this video and the condescending tone of the narrator kinda make me sick of this woke culture.
There were so many things that didn't have to do with phobia this, phobia that. The whole revival was in fact unforgivable, destroying the entire escence of the show.
I loved SATC at the time but going back to re-watch now, I realised how toxic the women’s relationships with each other were. The only character who is truly authentic is Samantha and her absence from AJLT has only highlighted what toxic women the others are. Samantha deserved better friends!
if a normally hetero woman starts a relationship with another woman, it doesn't make her a lesbian; it means she bisexual....which shouldn't be ANY surprise with Samantha!!
This is so wrong. Watch Mojo is twisting plot lines to fit this theme. The outing of the coworker was because the office gossip over heard the gay boy say “Miranda is pregnant!” Miranda did not out him on purpose as you suggest. She was saying it “matter of factly”. Did you even watch the show?!
Okay, she humiliated herself. I mean, getting out of a car, in a wedding dress, busy Manhattan street and hitting big with that bouquet... you brought this on yourself, hon
Yes he does. He agreed to be in a relationship with her again and for this to work he has to forgive her. If he doesn't, they cannot be together and he shouldn't pretend just to punish her.
one unforgiveable scene is when all her friends were late for carrie's birthday dinner at el cantanori. sure they all have their excuses beyond their control, and carrie should have waited longer, but i can totally emphatise with horrible waiting alone must have felt.

Talking about Samantha’s weight was odd. She wouldn’t have worn that outfit in the first place. Menopause causes weight gain. Where is the Samantha who took off her wig because she was sweating on her couture? This could have been an opportunity to talk about what happens to women as we age instead of chalking it up to emotional eating.
The most unforgivable thing about SATC is that they keep making more!! Enough already. Just leave it alone!! They ruined it after the movies. What’s next….Sex in the Nursing Homes? Come on!!
I LOVED SATC series in my twenties. It was completely different watching it in my late thirties. I found all the main characters annoying except Samantha, Steve, Aiden, Harry, Jerry and Big. I think Carrie is HORRIBLE! Sooo self -centred, egotistical and immature. At least Big was always upfront with her about who he was. Carrie constantly played games and would never just TALK TO HIM about how she felt! Very annoying. Its funny how your perspectives change as you get older. I think AJLT is just catastrophic! 😂
The whole Steve`s story in AJLT is unforgivable. They`ve ruined one of the most realistic relationships in SATC for incredibly toxic and truly awkward story with Che.
I agree 100%. I feel like Mirandas character is everything that she despised in SATC. I’ve stopped watching it now, I watched s1 and first episode of s2 and that’s it. It’s not same without Samantha as well. X
It makes Samantha's falling out with the girls seem much more understandable. Samantha was much more open minded, and her friends weren't. It seems logical they would have grown apart.
Which is why I have yet to watch an episode of AJLT. Without Samantha, it’s a bunch of middle-aged self-centered, entitled white women who are too stuck in their own little worlds. It’s boring AF.
Yes but they make it sound like SHE was the one who cut them off because Carrie didn't want her to be her publicist anymore (which is B.S because Samantha would never do that to Carrie)
For me, one of the most unforgivable things was how the girls were constantly sex-shaming Samantha. It wasn't just her relationship with Maria, it was her with the UPS guy, it was when she told them she never had an AIDS test, making fun of the number of guys she slept with after she forgot one etc. Given the fact she never judged any of them (Carrie cheating with Big, Charlotte sleeping with a stranger at a friends's wedding etc.), it was even clearer that they had very little respect for her.
FACTS!!! Not to mention she came around and fully supported Miranda becoming a mom even though she's staunchly child free. That's why the eventual falling out made sense to me, but they handled it a bit awkwardly.
They were both kinda awful but pregnancies come and go. Sure, she might have an issue with the misogynistic superiors, but people don't ostracise you and belittle you for being pregnant (in the same way they do for being gay/not hetero). He could potentially lose his job, get outed on a larger scale and endarger his livelihood. They were both dicks, but her circumstances weren't as bad as his.
@@danielsedanCome on! The pregnancy may “come and go” but what it means, doesn’t! Working women have had to cope with coworkers, supervisors, and share holders devaluing their contributions and passing them over for raises and plum positions because of the old trope that mothers couldn’t perform as well once they had children to look after. It may be illegal now, just like discriminating against someone on the basis of their sexuality orientation, but it still goes on.
@trb2888 yes. But you have more support and chances of mending the situation than someone LGBTQI did. Especially in the 90s/early 00s. Homophobia is rooted in misogynism as well.
These are my SATC unforgivables (in no particular order): 1. The series fan service, fairy-tale ending, as if in real life a toxic guy who has been running from committing with you will suddenly realize you are the woman of his life. 2. How they treated Kim Cattrall (probably out of jealousy as she is the best actress, the most beautiful and her character was the best) and how they often treated Samantha. 3. The way they erased Stanford by sending the character to Japan, instead of paying the tribute Willie Garson much deserved. 4. Aidan coming back to Carrie again and again in spite of how horrible she's been with him every single time. 5. The horrible way they treated Steve in AJLT. 6. Che Diaz. 7. How they ruined Miranda by turning the character from an assertive, confident woman into a pathetic and desperate lady trying to please everybody and craving the attention of, well, Che Díaz. 8. Pushing every character way passed their expiration date.
Miranda doesn't even need a defense. He outed her purposely, whether with good intentions or not. She confronted him in his office with the door closed and the loud mouth chick barged in. Literally not her fault at all.
@@rugbyplayer9100 Revenge outing would be even worse, plus he could keep his secret forever while she would have to come forth eventually. And pregnancy isnt such a big taboo as being in the corporate world anyway, especially back then. The only defense there is, is that she outed him by accident.
Same I think since this toxic relationship gave false hope to those in toxic relationships that if you stick it out he will pick you in the end, they should have written in him discarding her yet again an her finally realising how toxic it was. That be more realistic to me.
@@jeremyarmada1828 I thought that was why they didn’t bring him back for the finale cause I think instead of his voice it was supposed to be a visage of him talking to her but not why they killed him off entirely
@@bonniekissmyassyou are probably right. The accusations came out in December 2021 so AJLT would have been well passed shooting the pilot. For some reason I thought the accusations came out a few months earlier.
I recently started rewatching the original series in my 50s and it's SOOOO different than when I watched it in my 30s. Carrie is horribly toxic beyond description, she never deserved Aiden (who I can't believe would be so forgiving in real life) and Big was never the problem. When it was announced Kim wasn't going to be part of the reboot, I knew I wasn’t going to watch.
Agreed. Big wasn't the toxic one in that relationship. He was always honest with Carrie, she was to selfish to listen to him. She wanted what she wanted regardless of what Big wanted.
The way the girls treated Samantha in SATC and the movies, it's actually clear why she wouldn't want to be friends with them in a later stage of her life. Also, the way they did Kim dirty in the movies makes a ton of sense why she would never want to come back to do AJLT. Also, Che as a whole should have been mentioned as unforgivable on this list, they are so narcissistic, abusive and selfish and overall a terrible portrayal of the lgbtqi+ community.
I agree that having these spurts of “Samantha” offscreen is worse because the real Samantha Jones would NEVER miss Big’s funeral, whether or not she and Carrie were in a feud. They would have been better off just killing her character.
….Or as a woman in her 60s whose a cancer survivor, didn’t feel comfortable flying internationally during a global pandemic. 🙄🤦🏼♀️ Carrie would have never wanted Samantha to literally risk her life in that situation.
A cancer survivor ( who probably still receives some medicine) flying across the globe to the funeral of some jerk dying for a friend who is badmouthing her ? Nah ..
The whole AJLT is unforgivable. Mirandas character is everything that she despised in SATC. I’ve stopped watching it now, I watched s1 and first episode of s2 and that’s it. It’s not same without Samantha as well. X
The killing off of Big is the most unforgivable thing ever and I couldn’t get into the new show after that. Also how they wrote off Samantha and Stanford was just bad writing and not true to their characters. SATC is one of my all time favorite shows and I watched it in real time (I’m the same age as them). Some of the storylines haven’t aged well over the years but that goes for a lot of older shows, it’s just how things were then. The friendship between the 4 women is the most important aspect of the show, imo, and Samantha was the best of the friends. She is the one I would’ve loved having as a friend.
I don't remember how Stanford died in AJLT (I haven't seen it, I've only seen videos about it), but I remember some video in which it is explained that they wrote him out that way in part because the actor had not told them he was sick until the very end.
@@alicedamiano7718 they definitely should've had him die on the show as well, but they just said oh he just moved to Japan out of nowhere and only left a letter or something
@@Bdhstl95 yes I know and they wrote him out as having up and left his husband and moved to a foreign country with no word to anyone. Stanford would not have done that.
Sara Jessica Parker totally ruined this show for me. I had a feeling she was a B in real life and the way she treats Kim Cattrall who I love love love, just irks me. Even in some of the snide comments to Kim in the show, it just felt too real. The show just isn't the same without Kim.
I agree. Carrie may be the overall main protagonist of SATC but, Samantha outshined her in many ways. Samantha was funnier, more likable and had flaws like any other human being and not to mention, the audiences could relate to her. Carrie on the other hand, was selfish, immature, and often played the victim card. I remember when Kim’s brother passed away and Sarah gave her condolences and Kim went off on her. Kim basically telling Sarah “f you” gives me the assumption that Sarah was a real bitch behind the scenes when they worked together.
@@niabelizaire3596 Oooh I remember that too, how awesome that Kim called her out. I so hate phony people like SJP. What kills me is that she was knocking Sam for being who she was and doing the same things that little miss Carrie did. Don't even get me started on how she treated Aiden. Similarly, I had a hard time watching Desperate Housewives because of Terri Hatcher.
My big hate was the treatment of bisexual guy that carrie dated. The remarks of it doesn't exist or just a stop gap to being gay is biphobic and bi erasure which still happens to this day with characters given a "gay story" line instead of "same sex love interest story line". I mean Samantha was classed as a lesbian despite still being attracted to men.
Someone mentioned this on an entertainment page of Facebook but the OP commented that Carrie should not have blamed Miranda for ruining her marriage to Big.
True up to the point. If Big wasn't toxic to Carrie he would have just told Miranda to mind her own business. He was thrown by that cause he was never sure with Carrie.
@@jakubtaticek58 He never would have told Miranda to mind her own business because he respects her, is a gentleman and knew that it was the circus causing his insecurity with Carrie
Horrible video MsMojo. Let’s not forget the show was set in a very different time, the movies aswell -> the way we live and view society has changed drastically .
To me the most unforgivable moment was when they fat shamed Samantha in the movie. It’s ok to gain some weight after pregnancy but it’s not ok to gain some weight because you have respect and decency and don’t want to cheat?
They did not fat shame her. They knew that Samantha took her body seriously, and she never would step out without having her body on point. Something was wrong with Samantha and they were right to notice that she was acting out and she gained weight. SHE EVEN SAID / NOTICED IT. She was letting herself go over a man. 😊
I'm nervous about Aiden returning in the new series. He did deserve better than Carrie and that was no more obvious than in the second movie when she cheats on Big with him.
I think the Aidan/Carrie pairing will crash and burn, again. The fact he won't go into the apartment is a HUGE RED FLAG. Deep down, he hasn't forgiven her.
@@zizula7No he should never have to forgive and forget but if they wanted to be a couple again you do have to try and move past it just like Miranda eventually did with Steve and they seemed in a great place again in the second film until they completely destroyed their relationship
It's odd to do this list. It started 25 years ago. So to point out faults such as these seem, futile. you could make this list with any tv show not released after 2017.
These arguments are generational. Those women were in their 30s then n late 50s now. Not every character should represent the best choices ever. That is boring.
Number 10 makes no sense, Miranda was not in the wrong. He outed Miranda's pregnancy and she confronted him behind closed doors. She did not threaten to out him, she asked him to consider how he would feel if she'd done the same to him. It's not her fault the nosy person he blabbed to barged into his office without knocking. Also, he was wrong as hell to blame her for the accident, when he was the one who exposed her first and his mistake was the whole reason they had the conversation.
I always found it so interesting that both SATC and Friends get flack for homophobia or leaning into gay jokes, and both shows were helmed by gay men (MPK and David Crane).
I was never an Aiden fan. Sweet guy but too sticky, too needy. However I did not like the way Carrie treated him. That was not on. I was also never a Carrie fan. Some Carrie moments were likeable but there were far more examples of her selfish behaviour. The cheating on Aiden, slinking around sleazily with Big who totally disrespected Natasha. The way she sent Aiden to help Miranda when she had that neck issue instead of going herself, the way she threw Samantha out of the bath and her room because she had to have sex with Big and the way she totally got carried away planning her extravagant wedding knowing Big wanted a small affair and then threw that dramatic fit instead of talking to him and how her issues were always SO important.
@Msmojo get over yourself. The majority of this list is admonishment thru 20/20 hindsight. Finger wag much? Plus, you’re only calling this out to virtue signal. Social norms change. We’ve become more tolerant & accepting thru knowledge. It is just idiotic to apply todays understanding to yesterday’s practices.
Carrie was terrible to Aidan, but to some extent Aidan was toxic too and, imo, not the right one. I don't like how he pressured her to marry him and the "if you don't do it now you won't want to do it ever" bs. Granted, she was more toxic to him ("You have to forgive me!" after she cheated ) than he was to her. But the way he pressured her was a red flag, I would think twice before marrying someone like him.
The best ending to this series would be everyone finally realizing what a completely horrible person Carrie Bradshaw is and cutting her out of their lives for good. One of the most heinous characters ever created.
What about when Samantha had the relationship with the handsome black gentleman whose sister was the chef? Samantha and his sister totally perpetuated “black stereotypes” in the storyline. It was not a good look for the show.
Miranda didn't out him, nor she was actually thinking of doing it or threatening to do it. HE outed her and she was just asking him privately how he would feel if she did the same, _to make the point that he shouldn't have done it_ Outing people is terrible behaviour, but this is not it.
Just so you know as a queer man, the queer wedding in the second movie was absolutely amazing. It didn't put queer people in a box. It gave queer viewers exactly what we wanted.
I don't know about that.. he'd be the right guy for many, he's amazing, but not for Carrie. They wanted different things, lived different lifestyles and ultimately, he was too good for her.
For me the whole AJLT series was unforgivable. Miranda's gross treatment of Steve and divorce was so uncalled for. I also think the series could have honoured Willie Garson's character (Stanford) sad departure in a more decent way than having him divorce Anthony and moving to Japan. Finally trying to rekindle the romance from a million years ago between Carrie and Aiden didn't make sense considering the way Carrie treated him so badly in Sex and the City.
This list is BS. We all want realistic dialogue in shows, right? Who among us hasn't made rude remarks about people to our friends? Today's culture finds offense in just about everything. It's tiresome.
This video is a perfect example how broken is our society today - everybody is offended by everything and it is so frustrating. Nobody is making Steve's disability, there is no transphobia, no fat shaming etc. Just some moments that led us to the main point of the script.
Not saying it excuses anything, but sometimes people make harmless jokes towards others and themselves. How each individual reacts is what matters. Some of these moments were just “part of the times” (the way people talked/thought).
As someone with hearing loss, I laughed at the hearing loss jokes Steve was making. I am the butt of the joke when it comes to serious moments during movies cause I never hear right and I always ruin the moment and then it makes everyone laugh, so I thought it was funny.
It's not fat phobia for your friends to notice that you've put on a little weight and talk with you about it. The conversation the all had about Samantha's weight gain was definitely NOT fat-shaming. From personal & professional experience, I can tell you that MANY people do indeed gain weight when they're unhappy. It's quite common for people to seek 'solace' in food to feel better and therefore gain weight when they're going through something. That's not to say that's what happens with everyone, but it IS quite common.
My take on the first "Sex and The City" was different than most. Originally, Carrie had picked out a simple wedding ensemble and the ceremony was going to be small and intimate and Big was down with that. Then Carrie got a Vivienne Westwood gown, changed the venue and made wedding plans that were the exact opposite of what she and Big originally discussed. Big tried multiple times to address his apprehensions with Carrie who refused to acknowledge any type of discussion of plans. Big actually tried to call her on the way to the venue for reassurance and Carrie failed to respond. He tried to talk to her. He wanted reassurance. I don't think he was against the marriage, he just didn't want Weddingpaloosa. I think Carrie overreacted and failed to get his side of the story. Carrie showed him that what he wanted wasn't important enough exchange dialogue about it. Carrie was at fault, not Big. She humiliated herself and showed blatant disrespect for Big
When Vivienne Westwood gave Carrie the gown after seeing her Vogue photo, she soon used it to justify the changes in HER wedding plans. "You play poker right? Well the dress upped the ante"
That is a good take. And to be fair, she realized this in the end. Big wanted to marry her, but the wedding became a circus, which was what he was apprehensive about; he just needed reassurance from her that day it was about just them, and was not able to get a hold of her.
@@poetcindylynnAgee!! She spent all this time and money orchestrating this huge wedding and then instantly called it off without even finishing her phone conversation with him! She has no impulse control whatsoever.
The reason I dislike Carrie, even though she is not tottaly a bad person, is the way she treated Aiden. He was so decent to her, so open with his feelings, so kind and oh so loving. She got from Big exactly what she gave to Aiden. Yeah, he deserved wayyy better.
Outing a coworker? Really she didn’t threaten him it was an accident this is really reaching seriously msmojo that observation was way off. I’m sorry but all these other unforgivable acts are stretches too. Either I’d be cancelled today cause I don’t see the problem with most of these or it’s way too sensitive now a days.
And Just Like That season 2 on washing over Hubert's real reaction of racial humiliation in front of his daughter when trying to hail a cab. Then to combat it with a on the whelm campaign announcement.
Every situation, every step, every crappy word, every idea and absolutely everything in AndJustLikeThat is unforgivable. The fashion choices are also questionable.
First, I LOVE how Ms.Mojo continues to make new videos about SATC. Thank you Ms. Mojo, Here's my two cents, two scenes I dislike and they are both about my favorite character, Samantha. #1, I felt secondhand embarrassment when Samantha threw the melon through Richard's window because he had some younger female friends using his home. Yeah, they were annoying, but Samantha was the older, wiser one. When she cut ties with Richard, she should have just moved on. #2, Then going back with Richard temporarily while with Smith -- aw, man, I felt Smith's pain! ... Two "out of character" scenes that were so un-empowering by the woman who was so empowering. I still love Samantha/Kim the best! ❤
I take your point, but for me, those scenes showed that even Samantha wasn't invincible and unshakeable. Possibly I was just swayed the incredible acting - she always brings layers out of even the thinnest writing.
@@fionam7768 True, great point! I guess she had to have some flaws and her rage was one of them. And you're right, Kim's deliverance of that character was amazing. When you see her in interviews, she's totally different, much softer, which proves what a great actress she is.
The fact that they were so judgmental actually made the story relatable. Nowadays shows are so preachy not they managed to be completely unrelatable to real people
That was filmed before those allegations came out as apparently he filmed scenes for flashback that they canned after accusations came out. His dying had nothing to do with the allegations
The write out of Samantha in AJLT was weak. She was a true friend and would not have fallen out over business. In fact, Samantha did Carrie's first PR stuff for drinks. It would've been more realistic that she just grew apart as the other ladies were married and 2 of them even had children.
lack of Samantha definitely No.1. when Kim think is time the all four cast deserve a fair payout from SATC, SJP and Producer refused, now they have to suffer without her. big mistake. by the way, at the time they probably never thought SATC is the only good thing happen to their career which make them keep crawling back to it. while Kim have move on to other project for good.
To hear someone judge a progressive, inoffensive, light hearted and funny show so harshly by today's oversensitive standards is the only thing that seems regressive to me. In previous generations we had humour and insensitivity was a virtue in it's own right. It was our culture, sadly we aren't allowed that anymore.
The "I am fire hydrant" and " I am shoe" could not fit better in to modern gender-bender situation. Now we are all what we believe we are and it must be accepted or you get labeled some "phobic" again. Life was so much easier when we had gays and lesbians and drag queens being themselves... now it's just one big mess and I don't like it...
