I am an funeral assistant in Brazil, and a worked a lot in Shot Victims Morgues. These "weak" calibers almost every time perforated at least two vital organs of the victims. This weapons are very dangerous.. In São Paulo i saw in past a Police Man that died when a .22lr revolver shoted in short distnce and crossed an expired bulletproof vest.

@Slaphitter

Understanding the mission of a pocket gun, any caliber is really fine. It’s for breaking contact with the enemy, not for taking him into custody. Beretta Bobcat is my choice. Reliable with good ammo, very easy to shoot, safe in the pocket, rugged and small.
@BrassBashers
@BrassBashers 2 года назад
People talk caliber, I just got sick of paying double for .380 ammo than 9mm lol, even before the past election .380 was higher than .45. For pocket carry (what I do the most now) I switched to the Diamondback DB9, never looked back. It's uncomfortable and kicks like a .38 snubby, but it's reliable and I can hit man sized targets out to 50 yards with it consistently.

As a retired LEO, my philosophy was if I could use it if disarmed, it could come into play. Or if I could break contact, and back myself into a close range ambush position and wait for the bad guy to blunder into my sights. PS. You aren't far from me. I live in Hendersonville NC.

I have carried it everywhere since that night. side note, the perp had a bad night as I was carrying a 1 gallon can of paint home and as he tried to wrestle a deposit bag away from her, I crushed that can over his head. My first BUG when I started my LE career was a Beretta 21A in .22LR. Years went by and I sold it to another fellow who refused to listen to my safety briefing. He was a vet, knew "all about these" etc., etc. He was not listening when I warned him about the lack of extractor or ejector. He "cleared" it one night by dropping the mag and racking the slide. He also failed to notice nothing came out of the chamber. He then pulled the trigger and had to fill out an incident report with his agency on why he had a .22 caliber bullet wound through his hand. He called me later and apologized for not listening. He became a much better listener after that. Sometimes we all just need an object lesson. ;)

I made a TON of the "Baby Browning" .25 autos under the PSP name for domestic sales and the Browning name for export when I worked for Precision Small Parts in Charlottesville, VA. I can attest to them being excellent pistols. We were told at the time by a visiting State Police representative that it was the preferred backup and undercover pistol for State Police officers due to their small size, capacity, and reliability. Designed by none other than John Browning, it still has a place in this world and is relevant even today. We had one test pistol in the vault that I'd run proof loads through, and even after having logged well over 100 proof loads, it showed NO signs of fatigue and was just as tight and accurate as it was for the first 6 "normal" loads. Great pistols, if you can find one of the original "PSP .25" guns (not the later "PSA .25" guns, which I won't go into).

The LCP Max is the current King of pocket guns imo. A reliable design with up to 13 round capacity in a capable caliber, in a pistol that shoots much softer than you'd think AND has good, usable sights (and tritium at that)....all the size of your palm. You can also get them for about $369 in a lot of places. Put the 99 grain federal hst in it and your attacker is going to need a coroner.

@@cartelplug8183 I don't know.. the Jetfire is pretty good in that it's safe to carry with the hammer lowered on a live round; you thumb-cock it as you draw. @Warren Brenner I've read that that also makes it easier for a blow to the muzzle (or to the hammer) to cause the hammer to slip the sear and fall. I have not been able to confirm that for certain. Just be cautious. Since you have the BS, you should consider carrying it fully-cocked, with the safety on. Mine is an Italian, made in 1964, and does not have the safety lever. I don't carry mine, but it is in the safe loaded, as I have little use for an unloaded gun. ;-)

The only thing I don't like about it is that it feels like an m-80 going off in my hand. I never understood all the hate being leveled at the trigger. It's not for target shooting, you want a heavier trigger for sd. Plus the trigger stages better than most.

Great video Sootch00. Besides my routine 9mm/380 carry, I carry both a NAA 22 mini revolver and a Beretta 21A INOX. I jog early each morning and I always carry the NAA 22 with me while doing so. I also carry the 21A in a pocket holster quite a bit simply because it is so convenient regardless of what I'm wearing. I feel fairly well armed with either of these.

I am glad you said sub 380. 380 used to be considered a mouse caliber, but I don’t think you can consider it as such anymore. It is at least as good as 9 mm was back in the 80s, and it is what I currently carry every day, when I’m not carrying my 38 special. I love my Beretta cheetah, and my Smith and Wesson model 36! My favorite is the Baby Browning. There is a stainless copy of the Browning that is almost identical. The Berretta tip barrels are really nice. There are some Italian “25’s” that are based on the Walter fixed barrel design that came in prior to 1968 that are dead on accurate. The Galesi is pretty nice. And then there is the Colt vest pocket “25” that is a Browning design.

The Beretta 950 Jetfire is my favorite too. I keep mine ready to go and it finds it's way into my pocket or over-night bag fairly often. Mine is a 1964 950B. The "B" model has improved safety (inertial firing pin, I believe) making it safer to carry loaded with the hammer down. The BS model came about after the infamous 1968 Gun Control Act as that safety made it legal for import. Mine, being a 1964 model, lacks that tiny safety but I'd rather thumb back the hammer anyway. One other advantage of the tip-up barrel is for hammer-down carry. If you cock it and decide not to shoot, you can tip up the barrel to manually lower the hammer without risking a whooopsie. ;)

What about the Beretta Tomcat in .32 ACP? I used to swear by the .22 and .25 ACP Bobcat, but i wanted a same-size pocket pistol with more authority, and I now swear by the Tomcat and love the .32 ACP round. Keep it by the front door, JIC, but for my all-grown-up mousegu , the Ruger LCP II in .380 Auto. Too small a pistol to enjoy shooting the .380 (I understand why you like the .25 and .22 for plinking), but for self-protection, I prefer a .32 or especially a .380. Thanks for a good program

I know people squawk but that's because they don't actually know... The Keltec .380 is still the lightest/smallest .380 out there, it's easy to shoot, very dependable and surprisingly accurate. I've had mine a long time (Ruger liked them enough to copy the hell out of it) and with Xtreme Defender ammo, it gets the job done while fitting in a small pocket, ankle holster, etc. and you don't even know it's there (and neither does anyone else). People like to complain about KelTec quality (which is vastly improved) but this is a simple, easy to service, goes bang every time pistol that is easy to shoot and control, even in my giant hands. And I want one of those 950BS's. 😀

I had shoulder surgery 3 weeks ago. My dominant right arm is going to be out of commission for the next 8 months. All my rigs are right handed manipulation. I went out and bought the lcp max. I can control it easily with my left hand. Just drop it in my back pocket and go. I will take 11 rounds of 380 any day over nothing, it's all about shot placement anyway.

@@timallen6035 I liked it a lot when I got it back in 1987. Now, though, when I put it up against the higher-quality guns I've gotten over the decades since, it's clearly an inferior-feeling piece. Still would be good for a knock-around boat or tackle-box gun, though I even have better beaters for those purposes, too.

Beretta 21A in .25. Some guy was selling a batch of them off for $150 each, and I should have bought three of them! I got a lot of laughs at the gun shop when I picked it up, but it was my main carry gun while driving a taxi. Fit in my right bib overall pocket for left hand draw . . . and if I ever had to shoot inside the cab, it wouldn't make my ears bleed like a 9mm would. Saved my life once, so well worth the $150!
