In the world of video game consoles, there's always been a heated rivalry between the major players. And in the 80s, the battle between Sega and Nintendo was like something out of the Cold War. And when Sega released their Master System, they were out for blood, taking on the reigning champ, the NES.

Now, on paper, the Master System was a beast. It could play both cartridges and Sega Cards, and was technically superior to the NES. But, as we all know, winning a console war isn't just about specs, it's about market share. And unfortunately for Sega, the NES had already secured a significant lead in both Japan and North America.
It's a shame really, because the Master System had some cracking games, like Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Sonic the Hedgehog, which eventually became a huge hit on Sega's next console, the Genesis. But in the end, the Master System just couldn't quite measure up to the mighty NES.
