Hey Michael ! I'm part of your crew . . . and we met and shook hands at "The Boil" in the back yard in Fullerton, a couple, 3 years ago. I bought a book and we chatted. Your Christian testimony has inspired me and I look back on my upbringing in Yonkers, NY as critical, in that a couple of turns to the left or right when facing crossroads, could have resulted in a very poor choice of ending up in that life. There was a heavy organized crime aspect in Yonkers in the '60s and '70s, when I was there. Praise God I stayed focused and straight. Thank you for your honesty and no-nonsense preaching. When I bought Bruce Springsteen's 1982 album "Nebraska" in 1982 in Ireland, the opening lyrics to the song "Atlantic City" puzzled me because I had no idea as to who the "Chicken Man" was at that time. With the advent of the internet, I learned the "Chicken Man" was a mafia boss murdered in his own home by explosives. I choose you, Michael, as favourite because you left street life to become a beacon of light, hope to those wanting to get out of street life and warning young people not to get involved in same.

One good one left off the list was Milwaukee Boss Frank Balistreri and his sons. Probably because it was a smaller family. They all went to college and the sons graduated law school and were attorneys. I'm not sure if they were ever made but they definitely were aware and involved with their father's sketchy business dealings and they all did some jail time. The sons were both eventually disbarred from practicing law. They were heavily involved in the Vegas Casino skim in the 70s and 80s. They were also interesting since they were all educated, well spoken, and presented themselves well.

Nicodemo Scarfo was somebody you wouldn't want to cross. I saw a documentary about him where he was in a small war with 2 guys named Ricobini (sp?). At one point he was putting hits on lots of guys. You and your dad definitely belong on the list. People are interested in the mob stories because we have never heard these stories from the real source. I'm into history & the mob is History. If my son and I were in prison, and he could inform on me to the FBI, get out of prison, and turn his life around like that, I would be all for it. Not only would I be all for it, but I would suggest it to him and talk him into it.

Thank you for sharing all these glimpses into what many of us thought was the ultimate goal. Growing up in The Bronx, there was the fascination with the street guys who I grew up around they had this aura about them. It was the image of how they carried themselves as “Umo de honore” I remember my father telling me that “It doesn’t have a good retirement program, you go to jail or die of lead poisoning” after getting married and moving to Bensonhurst Brooklyn in the 90’s during the Columbo Wars the streets were like the Wild West seeing first hand the bloodshed in broad daylight was a very sobering reminder of what my father told me as a teenager! You knew when to steer clear of what “The Life” was truly about, yes it was intoxicating but when you’re sitting on the fringe and seeing at what price do you sell your soul; it becomes a serious wake up call to what is the ultimate sacrifice and what it takes to walk that walk!
