A remaster of this game would be awesome. And I’d also add all of the 7th dragon games that should get a nice HD remaster those are hidden gems as well.
“Hexyz Force” is highly under-rated. Playing through it again for the third time now. Love Levant’s story. Another PSP game NO ONE mentions which I love is “Unchained Blades”! An excellent dungeon-crawler with great characters and story.
I love Rhapsody musical adventure, it was so cute and funny most of the time, the only thing that I found annoying were the dungeon, while it is easy all the room looks all the same making it difficult to keep remember where you are when interrupted battles. I liked Enchanted Arms battle system and some funny part in the story. Mana Khemia II is a great game even though I like the first one better.
I've been playing Stella Glow slowly, it's really solid. Sad I missed it when it first came out. Edit: And I just got Rhapsody, can't wait to check it out.
Great video. Not sure you can tell "obscure jrpg" but "I am Setsuna" Its an awesome game if you love Chrono Trigger this should like you too. Thanks for recomendations
i played Hexyz Force and stella glow, those really are underrated, obscure RPG. people really should check out Hexyz force its really great imo for a psp JRPG, i really love the gameplay and story
@@soratheorangejuicemascot5809 Sakuna is great period... a mix of objective base sidecroller, precise farming work and my summer vacation atmosphere. The best published Marvelous game in a very long time.
I haven't watched the other video yet, and I'm almost certain you listed it there, but Okage: Shadow King is great for beginners and is available (digitally) on the PS4.
@@987married It's pretty basic, but I enjoyed it. I rated it a solid 8 when it came out on PS2. As long as you're not expecting anything too deep it should be fun. It's been awhile, but I don't remember it being too grindy.
I remember Magical Starsign and Sakura Wars on Wii! The latter had a great soundtrack in my opinion. And yeah, it's rather beginner friendly. The hardest part for me was never dying completely but rather, I thought I had to keep everyone alive (as I only played Fire Emblem before it). This is NOT true - in fact, I don't think it affects character affection or anything at all. Magical Starsign I remember getting pretty tricky in boss battles (I for one never managed to beat the final boss) but I also played it years ago, so I was probably just dumb. In any case, it's a really funny game. I remember all the planets you traverse feeling like weird fever dreams at times.
Tell Sega to stop care only about Sonic, Yakuza and Persona. But true reason why Sakura Wars is still PS4 ekslusive is bad sales in West, due to very bad release date (with Persona 5 Royal and Finał Fantasy VIII Remake), and very bad reception about this game from old fans in Japan (this is worst mainline game in series).
Love my hexyz force game. 3rd fave rpg on psp after ys seven and summon night 5. People be wanting 200 dollars online for it. I’m like damn crazy. But yeah I might wake my copy someday.
I really want a Western Copy of Hexyz Force, been looking for years, same as Chrono Cross, which thankfully now has a remaster. It really does suck people are asking for that much
First Sakura Wars is not obscure game, this is (or was) very popular franchise in Japan. Sakura Wars 1-4 were system sellers on Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, there is even limited pink Dreamcast in Special Edition, tamagochi with Sakura, OVA, TV anime, cinematic anime, manga, Stage Shows, musicals, toys, Koubu models, and even Pachinko / Pachislot. Second this game / series is not jrpg, it's Visual Novel hybrid (Dramatic Adventure). But i'm glad you mentioned this (still) PS4 ekslusive.
@@sharebear421 The problem is Sega did absolute nothing to this series be less obscure in West (no ports even when Nintendo Switch and PC completely dominate on Visual Novel games market, no remasters of older games, no marketing, bad release date, or lack of English dubbing. hell even NISA added english dubb for So Long My Love and ported game on another platform, but much richer Sega dont). NISA and fan translations did better job with Sakura Wars than Sega, such a shame. They just left Sakura Wars alone with two behemoths Persona 5 Royal and Final Fantasy VII Remake, even worse they dont gave this game a another chance to sell better on other platforms (like Atlus did with 13 Sentinels and Catherine Full Body), even in 2021/2022 when series have 25th Anniversary.
It's 80% Visual Novel hybrid with simple combat (button masher musou), there is no RPG elements in this series and gameplay is very short (arround 10-30 minutes between chapters). The previous games had SRPG battle system: SW1-2 similar to Front Mission / Fire Emblem, SW 3-5 similar to Valkyria Chronicles (prototype of BlitZ battle system from Valkyria Chronicles, and games were made by the same people/studio who created Valkyria Chronicles, Skies of Arcadia and Shinobi). Thats why this game should not be on this list, because it's mostly a Visual Novel, and dont have any RPG elements like level up system, grind, upgrade mechs, buying new equipments. Difficulty is: very easy, like any game in this genre. You play those kind of games mainly for interactions with characters, funny script, and Dating Sim elements. The closest thing to Sakura Wars series is playing game like interactive anime.
I think the Super Robot Wars games on Switch (V, X, T and 30) are brilliant fun and a great difficulty curve for beginners. Expensive to import but soooo much gameplay and you can play through difficulties etc. I’m 40 hours into V and the end seems nowhere in sight there are so many plot twists happening lol. Anyway great episode Eric 🫶
I‘m a bit surprised seeing Enchanted Arms on the list. I remember playing it a couple of times in a friend’s house and getting to a super hard boss that completely destroyed me. Now I haven‘t played it afterwards and maybe I would do better nowadays but I‘m not sure I would call it „beginner freiendly“.
Toukiden may be easier than Monster Hunter, but I still love it, it's the only one that's been as fun as MonHun for me that people consider a "clone of mh". But I only consider Toukiden 1 and 2, and GE3. (The first two looked completely different in how they were organized) PS, Did you know Enchanted Arms was developed by From Software?
I was really disappointed by Rhapsody on the DS - 90% of encounters I played while I was doing something else, just mashing the attack button. Might be better on Hard. I agree the characters & story was good, but if all I'm interested is the characters & story I'll just read a book...
Enchanted Arms is DEFINITELY NOT a beginners RPG. You'll be grinding for hours upon end for the final couple of areas if you don't abuse the casino, and beginners wouldn't know to do that.
I think any handheld RPGs are usually quite obscure just because most handheld gamers don't usually play rpgs (except pokemon) and rpgs gamers don't usually play much on hand helds. A few gems in handheld are probably the obvious - TWEWY CRHONO TRIGGER Radiant Historia FIRE EMBLEM These are all probably fairy mainstream.
@@V2ULTRAKill I never got to play chrono trigger until the 3ds lol Also I live in the UK so alot of great rpgs weren't released in mass production, and once all copies were sold, these Games were incredibly difficult to get ahold of. And in some cases alot of games were never released here sadly.
Mana Khemia has better Story, Mana Khemia 2 has better Fight, the game is such a gem who need a re-release, but not remake, the magic of his sprites is just so unice
Thank you for bringing back my Favorite child hood game Rhapsody The Musical Adventure for the playstaion1. I had to sell it balc in thw Day. Now I know incan get the Switch version thank you Eric. End of your video the music theme 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
