@ChallisVenstra

Sorry friend, you’re mistaken. Lake bonneville was no where near goblin valley. The white cap is a different rock layer. I forget the names of the layers up there, but the white cap is a pretty hard layer and the red underneath is softer. That’s why you get the crazy formations.

Around 1979, my wife and I drove to Goblin Valley. We were the only ones there, which gave it even more of a feeling of solitude. But as the sun went down, and the Goblin shadows got longer and longer, creeping and reaching towards us, we began to feel uneasy. It was freaking spooky. We got a little scared in the empty and darkening landscape, and left with goosebumbs on our entire body just as dusk was ending. No idea why we felt that way, we're not at all superstitious. It was just a very spooky feeling as night began to fall.

Kevin, great video. We are definitely adding some of these places to our plans for 2021. One question, the location in the intro, during seconds 5-13, which location is that?

Snow Canyon, Sand Hollow, Dead Horse Point, Coral Pink Sand Dunes and Goblin Valley are all Utah state parks (entrance fees). Monument Valley is part of the Navajo Nation park system. I wanted to point this out since it was noted that places are not national parks.

Very neat video. Thanks. I love Utah. You can see so much with minimal crowding of people in places like these. There is some neat railroad watching and very few train watchers. Thanks

It is a very enjoyable hike, one of my favorites in the state. But it is part of the NPS so it wouldn't belong in this video anyway.

Kevin. Thanks for the tips. I'll be coming over into south central Utah from Great Basin National Park to Goblin Valley. Have you ever visited Valley of the Gods? It's 166 miles south of Goblin Valley. Just as majestic as Monument Valley (only 30-40 miles south), on BLM land and rarely visited. Will research Badlands as I do a lot of photography as well as with drones. Thanks, Semper Fly Dave.

My understanding of the line of two different colors on the rocks is because of an ancient lake that used to be there.

It's marine, left over from the old Jurassic interior seaway. The top is the Curtis formation divided by the J3 unconformity and the Entrada sandstone on the bottom. Nothing was left by a lakebed.
