I went to to a yard sale not thinking much & started looking through the guys vinyls. We started up a conversation & he told me he worked for a few labels from the late 60’s-early 2000’s. He ended up hooking me up with David Bowie, Aretha Franklin, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie & Stevie Nicks promo vinyls

Sometime in the 70s, out in Guam, the promoter for the rock group WAR was there and invited the flight attendants (that included me) to a Halloween party. (We didn't have costumes so went in our bikinis, wearing a face mask and snorkel, as skin divers). The promoter gave me a promotional album, and the vinyl is blue. I loved WAR, saw them twice in person when Eric Burdon was with them, once in S.F., another time in Anchorage, AK. Anyway, I cherish that album and the good times it conjures up. We had a blast.

I worked at a record store and one little kid brought in a stack of albums that looked like shit. My coworker gave him $10 and he ran away happily. In the stack was an album called Hot Chocolate that was signed by the band in great condition. Ended up being $1200. I still think about that kid, how happy he was with the ten bucks and how he'll never know what he missed out on.

Very nice. Its always exhilarating finding rare gems. Although I cant even compare what I have found to your stack I have had some good ones. Unfortunately, at least now since I regret, I sold them as the high price tag was just too tempting. The biggest regret was probably These Trails which is an epic private Hawaiian pysch folk album. I am tearing up now thinking about it. My method is that if always look into albums that are out of the ordinary and look like private press. Since I am familiar with most common albums and artist. That has seemed to work so far. Thanks for the video. Always a pleasure.

I wish I'd bought the Jerusalem lp when it was in front of me a few years ago. Mint UK copy and I think it was £250 but I have a horrible thought it may have been as little as £150. The reason I didn't get it was it was in a huge prog and psych collection that a local dealer got. I prioritised other records but it pains me to remember the killers that got away (and we're taking 100s of rarities). All the best...Nigel

In the trance/progressive house scene, some of the rarest records out there are one-off acetate cuts from the mastering houses (Masterpiece, Tape To Tape, The Town House, etc.) sometimes tracks that never made it to any other kind of release can be found on these acetates. Lucky to have a number of these in my collection. Even cooler is that some of them were the very copies used to record some notable Mix CD compilations by well known DJs which have sold many copies. (Global Underground anyone?).

I have a copy of that Howlin' Wolf on the black label NM I picked up in a collection. Also that Allison Kraus album I have on CD, but none the less fabulous. I have just north of 12k albums. I cannot count how many substandard albums I have destroyed. If they are not VG or better, say goodnight Gracie. Albums are about enjoyment, not chasing a problem.

According to the tour guide at Sun Studios, Howlin' Wolf is credited with recording the first rock and roll record. The first white guy to record a rock and roll record was Roy Orbison, which was Ooby Dooby.

Weird. I found the Howlin' Wolf 1st Press about 5 months ago in a Goodwill thrift store. Sold it for $350.00 on Discogs. There were a few splits in the cover, and the media was VG+ on both sides. Near mint w/ very good or better sleeve would easily get $600 to $700

I really enjoyed your sharing the best of your library. One question though is you state that some of your selections are still in shrink wrap yet the vinyl is outside if the cover in a mfs sleeve. Am I missing something here? Love what your doing and will become a subscriber.

Assuming he means partial shrink. Back in the day, people would cut a slit on the side to have access to the vinyl, but the rest of the shrink remained intact and tight.

Back in the late 70's I had a double LP new wave/punk compilation called D.O.A. It was day-glo vinyl with a picture of a pig in red rubber boots on the cover. I let it slip through my hands and I heard a few years ago it is super rare and worth a bundle. Anyone got any info?

It might be worth mentioning that if you subscribe to a music on demand service (e.g., Amazon music), it takes the agony out of thinking you’ll never hear these. After seeing Pappo’s Blues, I just switched apps and was listening in no time. Pretty killer! Anyway, it’s nice to be able to hear what albums sound like, so you can get ones that you like.

Reviewing the Albums as YOU Speak: 1. Gary Higgins: (available Y.T.) - Not a Bad Album. I'd have kept it back when it was released had I ever heard about it. I think it would have gotten a few nice reviews 2 1/2 to 3 Stars. I listened to about 1/2 the album without feeling anxious & that is a GOOD SIGN. Thumbs Up. 2. Jerusalem: (available Y.T.) I would have bought this album for it's cover, but I would have gotten rid of it pretty quickly had my area had them in stock back then. I read some of the other comments from people who were impressed, and I did think that what they were hearing reminded me how early this was and how it might sound 'amazing' to those who have a limited experience with the music available in those times. I Think there were a lot of bands back then that did this better and were more significant... sorry, not for me. 3. Alison Krauss & the Union Jack (LIVE): (available Y.T.) I think I have this on DVD and I don't think I've made it through all of it. It's a Matter of Taste, which means I have none I suppose on a recording that I know friends would LOVE HER! I lived in the Middle of Texas we call the 'Hill Country,' so I have heard way too much of this kind of music and she is good, but I shouldn't judge other than saying she obviously would fill in the TOP Female making music like she does. 4. MIghty Baby 'A Jug of Love Song': (available Y.T.) This is very good. My first thought was 'the Kinks & Muskel Hillbillies,' but when the vocals began I heard 'Buffalo Springfield' or possibly a variation like the Byrds. 1970 would have been a perfect year to sell this recording. ,,,, my only complaint is the very ending, but I'd have TURNED PEOPLE on this because it was that good on 1st hearing and makes me want to find other songs and performances.
