D2 is the only game I've ever played where I found cool stuff and immediately had to create a new character. I found a "Windy" and logged out and created a 'zon without hesitation.
When I was a kid, I found a grandfather sword, and my best friend's step-dad offered to buy it off me for 25 bucks! Seemed like a pretty sweet deal at the time, considering that I mostly played a bowazon.
@@daywalker3735 No, you can't downgrade. I know it sucks. "Superior" items can't be socketed with cubre recipe. But normal items can. You can "normalize" a downgraded item like "crude" or similar adjectives. WIth a simple EL or ELD + chipped gem, the "crude" adjective goes away :-)
I bought D2 and D2Exp the nights they were released at Wal-Mart and been playing ever since, so this was a nice stroll down memory lane. As other's mentioned, GF was close to being best in slot, but a blue CCS would have been the preferred weapon for most pvpers. Definitely the GF was great for pvm, perhaps best. The Cranium Basher never really took off, probably due to the colossal sword just completely overshadowing it. Most barbs traditionally were whirlwind, so greater speed on the weapon is what was prized. Even Winforce's heyday was short-lived after the cruel blues with 40/15's took over. I've been lucky enough to find at least 2 of every item D2 can drop, but I don't want to even talk about how many games and how much time that took.
oh Ive certainly broken many discs of D2 to gain a grasp on my life back. almost like shoving a soulstone into my skull.. Diablo always found its way back into my realm. This game just takes over. You doin good in the game, you doin good in life!!
Windforce has special place in hearts of Diablo 1 players. That thing was capable to keep distance from tanky monsters for Rogue, Diablo itself included. Which was vital. Also damage of Windforce in D1 was insane, equal to strongest swords and axes (except Messerschmidt, which had out of that game logic damage). In D2 that bow was greatly nerfed, not only in damage, but especially in Knocback ability. Fun thing is, that I found that bow in both games in my first runs and never again 😃 I do not remember who dropped it in D1 but in D2 it was Pindleskin.
Very special for old school d2 players as well. Back in the day it was like hitting the lottery if you found one, probably the most valuable item in the game at one point.
I found Mang Song's with my Hammerdin last week, on PS4 - level 85 doing Baal runs, haven't been doing Baal runs much as I'm solo and haven't found an item providing Teleport, so it felt really really lucky to find!
Diablo 3 is a good game, in and of itself... BUT... It's NOT a Diablo game... It may hold some lore, but reading a Diablo comic book, will give you more satisfaction, and feeling of Diablo, than D3... What an epic FAIL that piece of sh!t was... Is.... Uhm... You get my drift... :P
Im new to Diablo 2 Resurrected.. How about a top 10 runewords? Or a top 10 rarest jewels? Both of those would be great and Im sure a TON of people would watch those videos since there are millions of new players just like me on RU-vid wanting to learn about D2R. Thanks!
I haven’t played since d2 back in the early 2000’s and for runewords they would be kinda specific for class. Some runewords would be much better for a caster and some better for a bowzon or a melee character. Would love to see this though because runewords weren’t really that big when I used to play in the glory days.
Got a windforce for 5fg other day and found a grandfather the same day put both in stash side by side and kinda just looked at them in nostalgia for a bit.
Wow exceptional! Found mine in chaos sanctuary with a friend. He got it and gave it to me right away. I found COA later and gave it to him :) It's nice to have a good friend.
I played diablo 2 since it came out way back and now D2r and I have only ever found ONE grandfather over the christmas weekend this past week! Awesome sword until you can afford a grief!
Yea man, me too. I legit holy'grail quested for this item. Months and months and months, all day all night, it was actually my "job" at the time, I was one of those dirty ebay sellers, paying my rent with Diablo game gear, heh (dream job) lol but i NEVER found Windforce - Grandfather yes, Windforce, never. Man o man.
Same, I remember regularly gambling the Pelta Lunata small shield on all my low toons basically every time Gheed HAD a shield to gamble on - or Nightsmoke belt.... was so nice to be basically guaranteed these uniques
Most of these were best in class before runewords took over. When I used to play it was all about getting a wf or a gf. Although for sorc which is what I played mostly it was all about occulus, shako, lidless wall, sojs. All the +skill items that just buffed you hard for killing cows and meph runs fast.
out of curiosity did you finish your grail? or did you spawn these items in to showcase them for the vid? not many people out there have that many TC87 items unless they have been playing a LONG time. :D edit: just finished the vid and saw the spawned templars. very respectable if you have everything short of it though.
Yea, no, I didn't come close to finishing the holy grail, well, maybe sort-of close. But these are just for the sake of recording video, popped in with Hero Editor. I'm actually waiting on D2R to go live before I start playing hard again (since I'm not really a single-player fan)
@@OldSchoolGameSnob got it, I played online for years off and on, then when I saw the announcement for D2R back in March/April I picked up the game again and started working on a grail on PlugY. I'm glad I found your videos they are really good and I hope you get a lot of exposure come D2R :D
it is garbage... since only thing that maters are rune words in most cases... but not garbage if you want to collect all unique rarest items like me. useful guide should be the the only 10 rarest items that are useful after runewords...
I was surprised that Leviathan wasn't on here. I never found one, and none of my friends ever found one. We decided it had to be a mythical beast that's just rumored to exist.
Krakenshell as an Item drops pretty often. Alone the Mavina Armor drops like every 20th MF run in the high lvl areas. I found a lot of Leviathan. Item Types like: Cadeceus, Diadem, unearthed Wand are much more rare.
Playing single player d2r on my switch. I’ve dropped griffons, a cranium basher, jah and Cham runes…. Yet still haven’t dropped a single t gods belt. The rng in this game is crazy
You are dead on with the Cranium Basher. I'm not a main barb anymore but it's totally obvious that the go to method Barb set up for both PvM and PvP is Dual Wielding Mace/Sword/or Axes and/or Mace/Sword with Shield or the only viable 2 handed Mace Weapon to use since 2H Staves counts as a Mace type will need to have a lot of IAS like the Ribcracker which one would just stack IAS and more damage to compliment the Staff to make it work. Ribcracker can be use on a Zealot Pally and Fury Wolf Druid.
I’m a Barb main too. Don’t think I ever went mace build, always sword but that’s just personal preference here. I’ve seen the rib cracker builds. I’m a big fan of breath of the dying and running ww build. We all run a bit different I guess. Take care.
CoA can't be eth since all unique with indestructible mod can't spawn in eth version exept those who always spawn in an eth version. Also your list is not the real list in term of rarity. You forget death's web which is the second rarest unique after tyrael's might in the whole game.

Great video, OSGS! One thing. You said you can find Crown of Ages as Ethereal. I am confused; is this true, are you sure about this? It is frequently said that indestructible items (unique or otherwise) cannot naturally drop as ethereal unless they have ethereal as a preset, so I didn't think CoA actually CAN be ethereal. Likewise, you'll never find an ethereal set item (No eth. IK Maul,) and any other item whose base doesn't use durability won't be ethereal (jewelry, bows, PBs, etc.) Indestructible can be *added* to an ethereal item via rune or runeword, but as far as I know, you'll never get these mods spawning at the same time. Self-repairing and replenishing items are different and CAN be ethereal, e.g. Titan's Revenge, so those are absolutely highly prized. But if eth Crown of Ages has actually been a thing this entire time, then everything I know is a lie, lol.
@@scottmartin3679 I get that, I played the original Diablo 2 for years and I remember the hacked items that eventually flooded the market before being wiped from the Realms, so I'm sure that have included some ethereal items that weren't meant to be. I'm just pretty sure that CoA can't typically drop as ethereal, especially since this video covers D2R as well.
loot table in d2r is weird man.. i remember back then, it took almost a year to find grandfather. Now in a week i got 3. THREE. 2x in AT and 1 from Baal i think. But some other common items (elite or excep) - no way, not a single drop.. (and i farm like 3-4h every day )
You mention several times, that some items are not the best in class items anymore and that they are replaced by runewords. Can you do a video on those runwords or best in class items?
i already found 1 grandfather (1h after i bought one for a rune, but i am happy now i have 2 :) ) and the ground of ages with 2 sockels and 15% damage reduction but only 22% res but i like it a lot merc dont die now anymore with the 30% damage reduction armore, feels far better as kiras+guardian angels, specialy vs Bosses like Andariel Duriel how kills my merc constantly befor.
I found tyreals might in my early d2 days not knowing what it actually was. I vendored it and who knows may have done it multiple times because i knew it wasnt one of the most powerful chestpieces
i ran 8 bots for like half a year in the old diablo2. Got like 200 Unqiue Sacred Armors but no Tyraels Might. + Templars Might is not Tyraels Might - there are 2 Unique Sacred Armor Items which makes Tyraels Might even more rare.
@@sz1893 Actually it can. I had an item dropped a couple of days ago that was indestrutible and also Ethereal. I was quite shocked because I did not know that could happen.
Just to reinforce how rare t’might, found most of the items on my pluggy accounts after two years, I haven’t found single IK armor, let alone unique sacred armor… only have four out of your ten most rare unique items… still a long way to go… in term of runes, never had BER runes and zon runes… but I got five jahs painful to cube up vex,ohm,Lo,Sur just to make infinity and egnima but man it is so worth it!
Pindle drops sacred armor a lot, for some reason. I found three IK armor, two rare (one ethereal, merc can actually use without strengh issues) and one Magic.
You can create Chars/items with Hero Editor in the old Diablo II client 1.13 oder 1.14 - copy the Single Player Savegame or your characters and simply copy it into the d2 Ressurection Singleplayer Save folder. Its 100% compatible. This way you can make better and more modern visualisations for your youtube videos. Thank me later !
The real deal in the very late d2 Endgame isnt about Unique Items anymore. I drop my complete MF to Zero and keep farming lvl 85 areas for Items like: Vortex/Kurast/Zakarum ETH/Noneth 45 allres 0/3/4soxx or 65%ed 120ar and on top 15%ed since the horadrim cube bug isnt working anymore it got a little harder to find the absolute perfect exile base item now. In the old d2 it was "enough" to find a simple eth Elite Pala Shield with 45res drop it into the cube and hope youll get 4 sockets and a ton of base armor since the bug was still active. Removing this bug added another variable into it, the %ed. Bugging items via Horacube was online able on non superior Items. Pick up every white/grey/superior Elite Pala Shield on your way: Sacred Targe, Zakarum, Kurast, Vortex ... even Gilded Shields which are exceptional only. If you are lucky you got the Rune-value of an Enigma or Infi in one drop without realising.
@4:20 incorrect. Any Unique item had has the "Indestructible" attribute either always drops eth (such as ethereal edge) or never drops eth, such as CoA etc. It's Impossible to get an eth CoA.
I've played D2 before there was even the expansion. When the expansion runes where added, but you didn't have runewords until patch 1.10, Runewords are so much better then even the best unique items.
???? There were runewords back in 1.08 even, but the 1.10 runewords were the ones that replaced most uniques. They've been around since expansion though.
seem remember two unique phase blades. the rarer one being something i farmed for awhile. while back ago. i got my grief made before i ever found it lol
Pretty sure I've found more Wisps than SOJs, WF than Eaglehorn and GFs than some of the endgame poleaxes. I guess our rng's just different. Also, never found indestructible items as ethereal unless it comes that way on it's own... are you sure we're playing the same game?
i have had the luck to be able to farm a few of these items.... but i have never in my life... see a SOJ drop....when people used a whole stash of them to trade....
Upper tier rune words can be super powerful, and it would have been a better idea for the designers to have used runewords only to make a larger variety of builds viable rather than replace uniques. Another idea would be to add customization to uniques to make them more powerful.
The fact that you can play a game for 20 years and something is so rare you've still NEVER found it is an issue I take with diablo 2. Yeah, in D3 the drops are arguably too high, but D2 does the opposite. I'm a single player guy for the most part, and stopped playing many years ago because the upper level items and runes just did not drop period. I've been playing again here recently with a mod that greatly improves drop rates, stash size, and allows ladder rune words on single player, and it's reinvigorated the game for me. Hell, I might even achieve end game content for once.
Watching this 20 years in the future knowing that somehow my 11 year old self had every rune word every rare item in the game and a lvl 99 and just getting anxiety thinking about how I even farmed all the things it was never a popular choice in the pvp circles but my favorite thing to play for fun was the summoner Necro just letting them do all the work or occasionally crashing servers by going to town with 100 things
Found my first windforce bow after 6 years. Never found a grandfather sword, Then again, I don’t even need it. I had a pair of Ith swords and constricting rings. I stopped playing after blizzard deleted my account and CD-keys 3 times.
my bots have found every item of the game multiple times, even those rare 450 psn dmg small charms, and omega godly rare items such as jmod etc. i hope there are no bots allowed in d2r
I never understood why they make systems that make items obsolete. Doesn't seem right you could find the rarest most powerful weapon for your character then replace it with some thing that takes less effort to get. Or why is energy even in the game? Ifalmost EVERY build ignores it because it can be easily offset. Other games do it too but i never understood why.
