I worked in Hartford for a few years at one of the major insurance companies. It is NOT the worst city in the US (click bait?) but neither is it the shining gem it was in its hey day (early 1900s to 1950) there is so much history here and architecture and that’s cool but the current politics does nothing to enhance the quality of life. It could be so much better than it is but it has lost its soul. Fortunately it is surrounded by some of the most geographically beautiful parts of the state and that is probably the nicest thing I can say about it.
I was thinking of moving there for a job but looked and it is a blue city. Still did not turn me away. Then I looked at the crime rate and yep it is your typical democrat city. High crime and expensive to live
Being from Hartford originally, there are a lot of things I don't like about city and it has its share of problems, while I plan on to move back to CT, I don't plan on moving back to Hartford, but it's not the worst city in the US, not even close. I visited Hartford last year, I did see some potential growth and hope it continue to improve and grow to become a more family oriented city.
There really is no reason to go to Hartford, or any city in CT. (Except maybe New Haven) The state as a whole is depressing if you are not wealthy. Hartford has little going on.
I was born in Hartford and I agree there is really no reason to go there. Whalers are gone. Bar scene is dead. Cold and depressing in the winter. Downtown is small. It's just office buildings. North or south of downtown is the hood. Good place to get car jacked. CT has some nice areas but Hartford is not one of them. West Hartford is better. Or Glastonbury on the east side of the river.
We can't keep bashing Hartford like this, HTFD is only boring because people are ungrateful and look at everything at the other side, like get to know your city and participate in it's economy. If you don't like it then help better your city by building business and events, it's never going to get better by just looking at it, how do we think other cities got better
Hartford wants to be Boston; Hartford wants to be like NYC. It's always been like the baby sibling wanting its just due. But it's never been a must-get-downtown destination for the locals. Beautiful skyline depending on which route you take (Rte 2 westbound the best). But Hartford exists for the suburban workers.
@@atonmartell2813 Sadly, in regards to Hartford, I agree with you. It is not and has never been without potential. But not worth major investments, I think they have tried over the years, but nothing seemed to stick. Old news, but losing the Whalers didn't help.
As a person Living in Hartford, ITS not the worst city ever or in the US. Its not good either. However its one of the places I could find the easiest to live in, because like, Id rather live somewhere than nowhere. Im also a black person so yea. Its not like I wanna live in Hartford. I used to live in West Hartford for a while when I was evicted for NO REASON (A new rental apartment boss took over) and was trying to find another place. West Hartford is SM better honestly, its alot cleaner and yes I HATE LITTERING AND THERES SOO MUCH I SEE IN HARTFORD. I see alot of people doing drugs in hartford (no i saw it in weha too) but they literally you see alcohol bottles (would not say littered everywhere) BUT ITS LITERED ALOT AND ALSO ALOT OF VIOLENCE! I dont attend the Hartford Public Schools System (it sucks) but i attend a private school. Ik its expensive, but were fine. WHPS IS DOPE! and Sm better in education. It saddened me to leave it. HOWEVER THERE IS GOOD THINGS ABOUT HARTFORD! Bushnell Park, Bushnell Theater, CT Science Center, Downtown is nice, and the West End of hartford is good. I dont like Hartford, but i would not say thats the WORST city. Yes it is dangerous, SO IS EVERYWHERE ELSE! Hartford does have high crime rates compared to everywhere else, but i would not overexaggerate how bad Hartford is. Also its the capitol of CT. but yea. Not everyone who lives there is a nutmegger. And not everyone who lives there is bad. So yea. I would not recommend living here, but however if its the only choice you have, ITS REASONABLE!! Im actually grateful that im living here rather than noowhere. Ang again. its not like everyone who lived in Hartford had a choice to live there, so when you ask "Why would you wanna live there" Just think.
There is no way that Hartford is the worst city in the ENTIRE US. That is just absurd. My family was from Hartford (never lived there myself) and they said it was bad, but visiting for family, it's really not too bad. I've been there a few times in my life to visit relatives and it was a nice atmosphere. Yeah, looked poor as shit, but that didn't bother me at all. There was a lot of sketchy shit, and I would never walk on the street alone, but apart from that I never felt in danger much. Went there for a show in the civics center a while back and wasn't really that bad either. There are definitely worse cities. Not a great city by any means, but it's far from the worst. I would say Detroit or Flint are worse by a longshot.
Definitely not the worse. That was a stretch. For a travel channel, you should know there are plenty of citys worse then Hartford. It may not be the best, but its far from the worse!
Well I am from Harford, sure Hartford seen better days. But with the highway system cutting the city literally in half, the exodus of manufacturing jobs in the past decades that made the city what it was, competing not only with two powerful cities north and side of it, and its suburbs and two other casinos then you can see why it becomes a victim of its own entropy and have everything stacked against us. Another thing folks outside the city do not realize is that there are projects in place to help things turn around but they do take time.
Don’t talk about my city in a negative fashion Half y’all don’t really interact or engage with Hartford residents like myself y’all come here for concerts museums the bushel sports bars and clubs How I know? I’m an Uber driver in CT I’m from Hartford born and raised and I don’t think anyone that is from CT really go to Hartford unless they have to So how would you know what is there to do? There’s tons of people that come here from different states as well not even to mention the college students who are here 6-9 months out the year So to say any thing without truly experiencing the city is asinine cause many college students and residents who aren’t boomers love coming out to Hartford You get what you put out in life, period. Anywhere you go
@@601TRAVELS but you labeled it the WORST city in the country, which even you know isn't true. How can you want me to subscribe to your channel, and the first video I watch, has a false title. "Top 10 reasons why you shouldn't visit Hartford" would of been more respectful.
Hmm, as a 15 years old teenager never thought things were so bad down there; I lived there when i was 15...now i'm 65. (West Hartford looks safe, neat and tidy though!)
West Hartford is NOT Hartford. West Hartford is wealthy. In Hartford, they will run you down in cars. I am not kidding. I used to work in Hartford, and they had guards escort you across the street. It's a dump. Snoop lives in Farmington, not Hartford. There are some very good cities - but mostly New Haven.
If you think Hartford is the worst city in the US... you haven't been around the US that much. Take it from someone who has not only lived in all 4 corners of the nation (la, sofla, new england, and washington state), but also drove tractor trailer through a great deal of it. Hartford is.... fine. Sure it ain't great, but it ain't bad, and it certainly ain't the "worst". I swear, my wife and I just moved here a couple years ago, and y'all love to shit on yourselves so damn much. Y'all don't know what you have here. It's nice here. It's really fucking nice. I live right outside of the city, east of the river, my wife drives in every morning for work. I swear... the shit y'all freak out about up here. Like there was a stabbing in the village/town/whatever the fuck this thing is a while back when we first moved in. Some domestic dispute. Y'all lost your god damn minds. Months have passed and people would hear we live where we live they'd be like "oh man, that areas is shitty... you hear about the stabbing?" "You mean the stabbing like 7 months ago?" "Yeah, so you you know about it!" "Yeah... why do you? Why do any of you know about it?" Where I'm from in sofla, if you know about stabbing... it's cause you were involved in the stabbing. There's more stabbings per god damn hour where I'm from then y'all see in a fucking decade in this town (not hartford). Even Hartford, while definitely having its dangerous spots, is still what... fine? I'll give you an example... I currently live about the same distance from my city downtown now as I did in Florida. About 10 miles, or a 15-20 minute drive (depending route). In the quiet neighborhood I lived in, in sofla, at the intersection right outside my community where the grocery store was in the 10 years I lived there had been shut down on 5 occasions that I'm personally aware of because there was a machine gun shootout in the middle of the road with cops/swat/etc. Now this area I lived was not the "ghetto", it was not some dark seedy depressed corner of the city... it was a plane ass suburban neighborhood similar to what I currently live in (just now there's more hills and snow, and a lot less HOAs). And this neighborhood freaks out cause of a fucking stabbing a year ago that didn't even involve their asses. Of course, I have seen some areas of CT I've been through that well... aren't the sort of place one wants to hang out for too long. Not trying to say CT is some perfect place or nothing. Far from. Y'all got your dark seedy corners. My point is... you know when you're where you shouldn't be when in the greater Hartford area. So much so that y'all think perfectly reasonable neighborhoods are bad just cause lower income people (see: brown) live there. No... y'all are like "West Hartford looks safe, neat and tidy though!" (actual comment found on this video shitting on all of greater Hartford) FUCKING BARF... West Hartford is a fucking white washed shithole. It's the suburban residential equivalent of a Cheesecake Factory. Talk about being "basic".... ugh. Srsly... y'all. do. not. know. what. you. have.
The whole Hartford starting from the north end to the south is bad. Then certain cities around it like new Britain, and east hartford aren’t that good either.
As someone from Hartford who has also traveled to many states, a few countries, and lived in multiple states, THANK YOU. You're literally the only person with sense here lmao
Thing is, when I was a boy, Hartford seemed like New York during the day (key word being seemed). everything was operational even the (in)famous "Butt ugly building, which was at one time a State run facility. Everything was running, open, bustling and busy. It's funny, this video mentions peddlers because there were street peddlers out on Main Street in Down Town Hartford, that peddled there wares just outside big named stores and reputable business. from G. Fox, The Richardson Mall, Brown Thompson, Sage Allen and the Pavilion mall to across the street where American Airlines had an office building, casual corners with its penthouse department above it to J.J. Newberry's and up along asylum street and hill. They were cheap Asian made wares and novelties but they were one of a kind finds of various iterations of robots, exceedingly tall for a toy and exceedingly small to pose a choking hazard but it WAS AWESOME! Then the "Change" happened. I guess the Down Town legitimated business and city councils did away with the peddlers and when the peddlers were all but gone the street preachers that were always there with the peddlers were being seen and heard, preaching misguided words and calculations of the "END TIMES COMING NIGH" within a month...every month. Then, as though one of their misguided predictions, they too seemed to have vanished. Gradually Hartford wasn't as bustling anymore, busy with rush hour morning of just working people catching buses to go to and fro work and home and in between lunch. Then the White Washing Gentrification that seems to have happened within the last 13 years, where Down Town Hartford has become busy again, not on the Main Street as was intended when such a bustling city was founded, but one block over, behind Main Street where Uconn, college a movie theater and other new businesses, that don't seem to be for the traditional Hartford resident had taken root, as a Shangri La or a Shambala but not for the Heart beat of Hartford. but yeah, Hartford is not good.
Hartford is not as dangerous as people make it out to be… if you’re not involved in street activity no one will bother you. Number 7 and 2 were pretty accurate.
It was crazy in the 80s. But at least most beefs were settled with hands. I left for the ARMY in '89 and only have been back twice. My whole family moved away as of 2011. I do miss the people and places where I grew up. Hartford still has a place in my heart.
Grew up in hartford, the weather was kinda meh, winter was cold, summer was extremely hot. Grew up near a hoodish area, moved to enfield which was much better, but then a few years later moved out of state and moved to florida, much better than Connecticut. Sadly i dont really see as much Puerto rican culture where i live, ive been to the parades there in Hartford, i kinda miss that. Plus in ct the only good places you COULD go to were six flags in Massachusetts or lake compounce.
@@shedroids that’s why only the Blue states r in the list of the most wealthy states. 😂😂😂 moreover, the list of the poorest states consists only of red states (say hi Mississippi)
Born, raised, and live in CT. Hartford is a dump and smells accordingly. I go out of my way to drive around it since the smell of weed and garbage is so prevalent. The tax problem is statewide though.
The actual City is rough; but the suburbs are nice. The property taxes in the suburbs (West Hartford, Avon, Berlin). It is too bad Hartford could not be a little bit better. While I don't think it is the worst city in the US, I think the reasons outlined in this video do highlight why it is not so great.
Having lived outside Hartford my whole life, most of this video is true, A city that was once the Insurance capitol of the world is no more, too many taxes, too expensive and way too much attitude for such a mediocre large Town, Its population has fallen every year for the past 5-10 years. Someone I know once said it all about Hartford, its a great place to stop for a coffee and go to the bathroom when driving from New York to Boston.
If people or owners of these buildings and took care of them along with the renters doing their part, Hartford wouldn't look so bad. You can ONLY blame these people for living the way they do..Took no pride at all. I grew up in both the North end on Main St. and Charter Oak terrace - D section. They finally just torn down COT and made affordable housing and now it looks good with people taking care of their properties. Along with Rice heights. Big difference. But the North end hasn't changed. No one cares.
@@601TRAVELS too bad you're not bright enough to actually take viewers advice, and in return reply saying something smart. May have gotten my view, but guess what.. it's the only one you'll ever get from me! Grow up, and stop putting out clickbait titles and false information.

Its just sad... mcdonald elementary. Quirk middle school and prince tech high school.. those my schools.. oh and loved to slide down the hills on trinity college campus during snow days.. ugh so sad.....
For all its warts, "Hah-fuh" isn't the worst city in the US, but it's trying hard to catch up. Used to enjoy shopping for XMAS and other occasions in Hartford, but now it's a waste of time and money for parking. No restaurants open on Saturday, afternoon, either.
I was born in hartford in 1985, come back to my motherland Palistine-Israel with my parents in 1993. Watching this video and reading the comments makes me sad, because all the good memories i had there. I mean living in Israel sucks, Hartford is HEAVEN comparing to Israel!!!. I don't know if in the 90's things were better, can any one relate?
@@nick8243 lol. Yeah that's why people are leaving. It's a dump. Boring, expensive, highest taxes in the country, rat race, one of the highest cancer rates in the country, one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, consistently ranks as one of the worst business environments.

...Once vibrant prosperous cities like Detroit, Baltimore, Gary, Indiana, as are parts of Los Angle, Chicago and many other cities and towns are in ruins plagued by gangs, drugs, crime, and violence due to a particular group that no one can make accountable, let alone name.
Actually if you check your facts, Hartford's commute even in heavy traffic is one of the shortest in the US. Try driving from New Haven to Stamford at 7am, it'll take you 2 hours for 30 miles.
I like Hartford CT but there are to many shootings over there i just moved to New Britain recently in September because Hartford has become a dangerous place god will handle this once and for all. 1 day Hartford will go back to Normal in no time.
Worst city in the US!?! Seriously!?! Ever been to Detroit? St. Louis? Baltimore? Oakland? I could go on. All I hear is a whinning narrator who seems to be unhappy about the city (or the state - she seems all over the place). Yes, many of the points she brings up - taxes, etc - are true, but not that bad. She is back and forth about complaining about Hartford, than CT, then back. So which is it, Hartford is bad or CT? This sounds like the simplistic complaints of a 7th grader (speaking of 7th grade education) trying to argue their point, and not doing their research properly, then giving their report. Hartford is not as bad as she makes it out. I have lived in Hartford (in the 90s when it was worse) and had no issues with crime. And only "67%" graduated high school!?! I currently live in a city where less than 45% have HS diplomas, and only 17% have college degrees. People love to dump on Hartford, but seriously, compared to where I live now, I would rather live in Hartford.
Whoever made this video is delusional and Has never lived in Hartford. making Hartford look like it was 1990. we’re in 2023 Hartford has evolved. It has become a wonderful city to live in. what capital city doesn’t have crime, and look where we’re living, in between New York City and Boston also have higher taxes and being in between by those two cities, we’re doing all right. by the way, we got one of the best highway system in the country.
Delusional for speaking the truth about Hartford. Give me a break. You are doing a disservice by telling people how 'wonderful' it is. I can only imagine you are part of its problem.
Hartford definitely has it's depressing and dangerous seeming areas. Also a lot of nice parts that feel like you are in a different city. Interesting dynamic that these two oddities exist under one name. Interesting place to visit . Worth the trip
Any problem(s) that may exist with regard to a lack of unity in Connecticut likely stem from residents who don't have names like Avery, Tyler, Hamilton, etcetera. You know, those ol' nutmeggers what don't speak fluent Ebonic.
I have a favor to ask from a person living in Connecticut my wive got her phone robbed nd am locked in Morocco cos of the pandemic anyone that can contact her for me please she works in Hartford hospital
Wow, iI didn't know Hartford was that bad. My family and I drove through it during so many drives to visit family in Boston and I always liked seeing the buildings like the State Capitol Building. It's a city similar to Baltimore in that it has a lot of nice older architecture but is plagued with drugs and other crime. It's nice to drive through and see the buildings, but stay in the car.

He was hospitalized for days and had a lazy eye as a result of the concussion.
