I've lived in Topeka since 1990. I believe a lot of issues result from the fact that Menninger and Topeka State Hospital are closed now. A lot of the patients were transferred to community care which is inadequate to truly protect the public, or the mentally ill.
@@mrs.cathrinehdz5213 that's not the issue Menninger's was a really fucked up place so a lot of the people that came from there out right refuse to even see a doctor in general because they don't trust them
I live in Topeka. You're right. The hospitals closing is part of it. The giant meth problem is another big piece. But, what can you do about that when the KBI helps manufacture and distribute it? Nothing. I will probably be harassed again for mentioning it here. Our so called "leaders" here are morons who only care about protecting their phony bologna jobs and their sick pedophile activities. They don't care about the people.
The state hospital was closed twice, each time just releasing anyone who couldn't afford Menningers. Mental illness + poverty +addiction with no local infrastructure =Topeka Ks.
I live in Topeka. I live in the one of the hoods that people are afraid to drive through. I have had bounty hunters on my street looking and finding their person on the list. You call the police they refuse to give out tickets for violations because of fear of retaliation against them and the victims. It does not matter what race you are there is no hate crimes because of race it is just hate. If you walk expect harassment just because you are walking. If you apply for a job it is a requirement to have reliable transportation and have to show proof public transportation is not allowed for reliable transportation. It used to be a cheap place to live but now after covid landlords are hiking rent amounts saying because of the cost after covid but they have not improved any part of the property. The city code department does not have a minimum inspection for rentals, It is a smelly area also south of town the Frito Lay factory you can not drive with windows down because of the smell. North east of town the waste treatment center has damped raw sewage into the Kansas river so often the city of Lawrence has threatened, they are down river, to leave bags of dog poop on fire on the doorstep of officials in Topeka. The river is so polluted there is signs posted do not eat fish caught in the river. The city was never able to keep the EPA regulations of the pollution in the river low enough they raised the EPA limits.
Born and raised here. If you aren’t from here this is a totally inaccurate and a terrible review by someone who obviously has not lived here and got their data/ opinions second hand.
I wasn't born in Kansas but moved. Lived a good chunk of my life there. In my opinion it is close somewhat. It is boring if you are young person everything fun is in other cities Lawrence, KC. It's a walk from north Topeka to South Topeka 37th st and beyond. I never believed that people get high so often and off of anything till a friend showed me a side of Topeka I never seen. Meth heads galore etc. I don't know. It's an opinion from someone young and everyone has a different opinion
been in topeka for 14 years...people are not friendly. she hit everything right on...plus she missed a few things....like everyone pretty much is from the same family. topeka is horrible...if you have never been anywhere else try it...then come back here...you'll see what im saying here. topeka is backwards.
How can you judge this city when you show the same pictures of it in your video over and over and over? This makes it appear that your criteria for judging this place is way too narrow. And, one of your negatives is actually that there is no ocean beach. ?????????? Are you even aware of where in the U.S. Topeka is located? This review makes no sense.
She's right about the schools in Topeka KS after fifth grade I didn't learn anything in junior high or high school dropped out of highschool as soon as I possibly could It's such a waste of time
I HATE Topeka, Kansas.... can't seem to escape... it's like a tornado that sucks the life out of anything happy.... dont move here! You will be sorry you did. Dont expect a warm welcome from the natives/locals.... IT'S A TRAP!!!
I went to Highland Park and make ~$200k a year which is beyond anything I originally thought possible. My advice: (1) understand growing up in Topeka does not make you inferior; (2) get additional education in a field with some economic value; (3) get a mentor in your chosen field; (4) do your time in a big city to get experience and high pay; (5) return to Topeka and contribute to its betterment; (6) tell your friends in California that Topeka is a terrible place and they should stay away.
I also graduated from Highland Park, now the city's worst High School. I went to KU, got my Nursing degree, and moved away just after graduating to California, where I found my dream. I also lived in Denver for a long time. I made my life a success but only returned for family reasons. I would NEVER live there again. I retired to Hawaii.
I’m 21 and lived here for all my life so far. Some points are valid and some are blow a little out of proportion. But I will say as a young adult, there really isn’t anything that accommodates the young adults to get out and be involved in, it can be hard for some to make a living if you aren’t set up properly. Best bet if you want something fun and entertaining to do, you’re better off driving to Lawrence or KC for sporting events, food spots, functions and more. I love Topeka but it’s not very ideal for some and may find better opportunities else where. Edit: Love your video and wish better for Topeka as a whole
I grew up in Topeka. I also lived in wichita. Topeka was a great place to grow up! Wichita, now that's a dump. A racist mess.. there are many cities in the central US that aren't near mountains and oceans. That doesn't make the whole center of the country lame. Its just the central area. Its not hard to travel to the Gulf, for example. Topeka has hills. They just arent huge. Wichita is flat.. If you think Topeka is the worst, please go stay in Wichita. You'll see that by comparison, Topeka is an oasis in many other places in the central US. Also, Topeka does have concerts. Nice ones. I went to some. This isn't accurate.
Would you really consider Topeka worse than LA? Like yeah the geographical makeup of the city is different, but crime per capita is close to the same no?
I'm 61 lived here all my life yea its boring. Saling my house and buying an RV and getting out. Your going to have to at some point. Things are going in the shit hole 100%
my wife and I are from California and moved to the Topeka area and I have to say...YOU HIT EVERYTHING RIGHT ON. EXCEPT you missed a few things....let me add some really important stuff here. THE PEOPLE...are NOT FRIENDLY...we have been here for almost 14 years and have ZERO friends....not because we haven't tried...but because we are not INBRED.....the people out here are backward.....they don't care how they look, if they run into you in shopping centers, if they cut you off on the roads and if you try to have a conversation with them they look at you as if you're from mars. if you don't drive the speed limit they'll pass you...if you drive the speed limit they follow you...if you want someone to pass you...then speed up....no lie. people out here just don't get it...it's like their brains fell out of their heads...you can explain things...and they just STARE at you. if you walk into a restaurant...they stare at you....if you don't wear pajamas everywhere and if you dress nice they think you're an actor or from Hollywood. most people are VERY heavy set here 400 lbs and up....most use those electric wheelchairs or walk very slow in stores. I think people need to cut down on how many pork roasts they eat a day. almost everyone here is diabetic. Topeka is the fat capital of the world....and as far as intelligence is concerned.....it's lacking huge in Topeka. If you go to church...it's almost impossible to fit in....not unless you're inbred or some part of a huge inbred family here. we live here because homes are cheap and we moved here with a promise of a business....and we got here the guy backed out so now we are stuck here...but we have made the best of it...we have 5 acres and no bad neighbors...we know 1 person on our road....we live in the twilight zone. thank you...but next time you do a video on Topeka please mention those things I did above. excellent job on your video by the way.
Topeka is for old white conservatives. It's a place to come to and retire. I agree with somethings you say, but not all. Fat capital, diabetic, and inbred is far from true. Obesity and diabetes is a United States problem not just Topeka. Inbred? I don't know anyone that's inbred here, but hell if they are that's sprinkled throughout the the United States as well. Topeka is NOT for young people, it lacks culture and diversity.
I’ve lived in Topeka my whole life. This just isn’t accurate. Yes there is problems here, but a lot of these points are exaggerated. Also a lot of these points are obvious, Kansas is mostly flat and land locked. That’s not a problem with Topeka that’s a matter of personal preference. If you like the beach, the ocean, or big mountains, as long as you have a brain, you’ll be able to decide that Kansas isn’t a good fit for you.
Topeka was not a bad place to live in the 1970s and before. It is awful now. Far Right-wing Republicanism and religious obsession have killed what used to be a great place to raise kids.
I currently live in Topeka, I agree with all of this except for walkable. Walmart is about a 3 minute walk from my house and my job is about 10 minutes away
That was not the Kansas capitol in that first pic. And you kept using it. All while using one of the real one. Couldn't you tell they were two different buildings? The way this was put together was real lazy.
You dive down Topeka Blvd from south end of town main street in the capital city of Kansas you need a f!@#$%ing truck it will tear your little car apart and on the west side where the taxes are the highest north of best buy there is a pothole 3 feet around 7 inches deep been there for years it will set your car down on its frame LOL
🤣 I know what you mean. Before they re-paved Adams, that was one rough SOB. I think they've gradually begun to make more repairs to the roads, but I live in the county and don't drive the streets too terrible often anymore in the city. Oh, I know what you're talking about though. 🤣
I'm still laughing at your comment. It's a true statement. I'm not saying it isn't. It's just the way you said it. 😆 I think the roads are so bad because of the extreme temperature fluctuations? 🌡
Topeka is kind of weird. I first thought it was a dump but found some cool things about it the more time I spent there. There are some hidden treasures there. You're right about most of your points but while it is flat, it's not flat AF. There are a few hills. No flatter than central Illinois, Indiana or southern Michigan etc. And like you said, to the west are the flint hills which are gorgeous and to the east towards kcmo, it gets hillier too. Love your videos and your humor!
@@darncash2056 this is also funny. My wife and I are from Forrest county. We’re about to move to Topeka after I get out of the Army. It’s so much better than Mississippi. While still feeling a bit southern.
@@AutoSanchezMusic It'd a bit surprising that there isn't one on the West side. I'm sure a lot of Rural district kids skate. It's a bit surprising, really.
I lived in Topeka most my life in the pandemic we started having bloc parties and there kid was running wild and they defunded the police at that time really hair how bad Topeka has gone
As an Aussie I have watched Louis Therouxs TV show on the people of the West bro baptist church in Topeka. It makes me not want to visit Topeka any time soon.
i lived in topeka most of my life its not that bad you just have to know the right people and i walked outside in the central all the time a never witnessed a crime
Also born and raised here. Lived for 20 straight years since ‘97, left for college in Cali, COVID hit and I unfortunately had to move back home. It’s easy to blame an environment, to say that “all these terrible things are just endemic to this area.”, but honestly? I really do think it’s the people. People here are hardcore judgemental, hypocritical, NIMBY bigots here more often than not. Lived here long enough to observe, all the older Caucasian folks are obnoxiously entitled in the most aggrieved way possible. It’s almost comical how childish most people older than me are in this town. The type of people who willfully violate traffic law, then flip you off if you call them on it, but complain incessantly that no one else seems to know how to drive. The kind of folks who will put pro-life bumper stickers on their cars, then take those cars and speed thru active school zones. One thing I think you neglected to mention - the WBC still resides here. Still protesting. Went to highschool with a couple of those kids, would you believe their family was dumb enough to picket the very same public school they sent their kid to? (T-West) it’s actually not that hard to believe when I think about it. 😅 That said, Substance abuse, Public schools, Boredom, The absolute necessity to rely on cars? You nailed all of that. No, this place fuckin sucks. Anybody who says otherwise is likely a Wildcats fan and is not to be trusted with little more than a cup of your own human spit. Love cows tho! 🐄
I'm from there.and have lived in other states and countries.you obviously haven't been around.its far from the we worst. Go to Oakland CA.or richmond or philly
But the smallest of those cities have more that twice the population and the largest has 12x. Topeka doesn't have the population density to blame poor conditions on.
everyone should have an opinion...no she is not 13 and this was an honest review...you don't have to insult people if you don't agree with them...that's acting like your younger...a mature adult will listen, and evaluate and comment without insulting someone....not unless you're 10.
I’ve lived here my whole life, we don’t really get tornadoes. Our last large tornado was in 1966. Now funnel clouds rarely reach the ground, and when they do they’re not there long enough to do any damage.
Keep this video going so it keeps people away. And a lot of it is common sense. Duh, it's landlocked! Just like all of the midwest. This is a very exaggerated video. There are people that are very successful and do very well all over the city. Most residents aren't trying to show off and stay humble. That's the charm of it. They don't give a damn what people think. There is a difference in people. Folks that live below their means and own more than you would ever imagine and those that live in other places that are house poor and can't put food on the table. Topeka is a very diverse city racially and economically. Don't start problems with people and you won't have any.
Olathe and Overland Park is probably to go to places to live. Plus it's near a bigger city like Kansas City, MO. Plenty to do a plenty of job opportunities.
Bullsh””” i walk so much i get a great 10 mile hike going to Walmart the weather is great im in texas i think im coming back i miss the fall. And there are three jobs to every person on unemployment! This lady doesn’t live in Topeka!!!! I saw a tornado once it was awesome! Im coming home get ready y’all lower the fluoride levels
i live here as well...she is totally accurate....topeka is horrible. people are mean...no one is friendly...and everyone thinks of themselves only....been here 14 years...and even the churches ignore you.
I'm guessing these people that live here and are negative about it..... would be negative about wherever they are at. Some people are just never happy.
the Speaker must be raising Snow flakes!! you Can't be a Sissy to live there. Storm's are Good!. Schools are OK If you wanna learn , think your tuff , you can Learn on the Streets Too!!!!! Topeka ain't for Sissy's!!!.Mike Rice ..NOTO 72-91
