It's because he doesn't act as ironman. The character he plays is the same as his real life character... That's why he's perfect for that role. Same as how Tom hardy is perfect for his roles. It's a good way to make good films out of actors that aren't great.

actually, when the movies came out, marvel started changing some characters appearances, so that they look more like the actors, one good example is that before Samuel Jackson did Nick Fury, Nick was white, so Robert doesn't look like tony, tony looks like him

My favorite is Chaplin ... he SHOULD have gotten the Oscar for that one! I remember thinking the first time I saw Less Than Zero that he had to have gone through detox at some time and my mom who had been an alcoholic saw the same thing I did ... She commented that if he didn’t clean up his act he wouldn’t last long but unfortunately she wouldn’t live long enough to see the magnificent man and actor he became.

Back to school was the first movie I saw with him and although it was a small role he was the character I loved the most. Charlie Bartlett was the second movie and I didn’t realize it was the same actor but his performance was the best thing of the movie. Then in Sherlock Holmes it hit me: that’s the actor I loved as a child! And the next movie I saw was Chaplin and it was when I realized he’s not only my favorite actor of all times but also one of the best actors alive. 10 years later (and I have pretty much seen every movie he was in) I still think he is. I love you 3000 RDJ!

When I saw Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, I knew we were going to enjoy YEARS of RDJ movies. Before that, I would avoid his movies. Not because he wasn't good. He was f'en great. But I didn't want to watch him waste away to his addictions. Beyond GLAD he finally cleaned up. Hope his kid does too.

Chaplin is one among my most favorite films. I haven't watched Iron Man, I don't like Superhero movies. Chaplin is one movie I watch again and again. The first scene itself where Chaplin in his dressing room is removing his make up alone is breath taking.

I remember when I saw Chaplin for the first time and I was really skeptical of Robert Downey Jr playing Charlie. I'm not sure why I was so skeptical but for some reason I didn't think it felt right. But then I actually saw the movie and was totally blown away.
